Great value for the price... For a totally different view of these products, let me tell you about our experience (this co-written by my computer consultant who has installed a bunch of these systems at various small businesses and has 40 years of experience with computers and technology of all types; has a Masters in Electrical Engineering and owns a Lorex system at his shop). First of all, my tech guy installed 2 L20WD's (smaller brother of the L23) three years ago. We run them 24x7x365. They have both been upgraded to larger disk drives (highly recommended and easy). We run 16 cameras, 8 in and 8 outside. All has worked great with no problems. Neither rain, snow or ice has phased those outside cams at all and we have one on a tree 250 feet from the main building. We offload (archive) both systems to an FTP server in-house. That is a nice feature (and who cares that the CODEC used to play the files is old; it works fine). The camera quality is pretty good considering the price. I mean you aren't paying for a $10,000 system here. We did upgrade 2 of the cams to expensive SONY wide-angles for specific needs. One of the SONY cams died(almost $400 for it!), but none of the Lorex cams has; all OK. In over three years of use, no problems except for one minor issue. Our archives to the FTP are very sensitive to network traffic. If both systems are trying to archive at the same time, one often fails. We stagger them to avoid this (start one at 5PM, the other at 9PM to get 7-5PM footage). There have been zero hardware failures in either system in the three years we have had the units. We have had no problems with the power bricks getting hot. My tech loves the remote viewing software which he can use from any of the PCs in the building. You can set up any PC in the LAN to be a viewing station for the units. You can monitor 1, 4 or all 8 cameras live in a window on a PC (put it up in a corner on a large monitor and do all your other work as normal). Remote viewing is possible. We are on Amazon now to buy a third system for this site and we couldn't believe the negative review that was written. I mean, for the price, these units are a bargain. We love them. My tech recommends hooking them up to battery backup/surge units which we have here. He also has talked to their tech support many times and, although maybe not rocket scientists, they always got any questions answered. Look, you are getting a complete 4 camera system with a good quality screen and a DVR for under two grand! Like we said, maybe not the $20,000 system you could buy, but do you really need that? For a small business or home, these are fine. If you were only looking at value for the dollar, I would give these systems 5 stars. Hardware quality is probably average at 3 stars, as is the software. The user interface is pretty good in our opinion and very easy to use. We thought the manuals could have been more detailed, but sufficient to get us running. As they say, your experience may vary... We're happy. |

I got this product in November and it has been working ok since the installation. I have a had one camera go bad on me within 6 months, but they replaced it for free. The resolution is just good enough. Can't really make out the face, but at least you can see if someone is there and where they are. The range of the camera is not that great. I was only able to put one camera outside since it would not work in some places. I do have it disconnect once in awhile. |
