Great for within 30 feet

I tested these LOREX CVC6996 cameras extensively prior to installation for their performance, capabilities and reliability. I also tested because I needed to get familiar with video security systems since this is my first venture into them. They worked great but after about 30 feet I had difficulty seeing facial features; as an example. This is expectable as they are small, none zoom cameras. They were never made for great panoramic views but after 30 feet they still will show clearly any activity taking place. The biggest problem with this camera or any wired camera, for that matter, is the planning of its placement and the running of the cable. Once you have that done, simply plug it in to your DVR and you are done. With good planning and for the price, these cameras will do the job and are an excellent value.

GREAT cameras when they work

I originally purchased the system with the 21 in monitor and four cameras. I liked the system so well I purchased four more cameras. Then stuff hit the fan. A couple of the cameras stopped putting out infra-red at night and one just went on the fritz entirely. I had to purchase four more cameras and return the defective ones. I really love the system when it works but Lorex really needs better quality control of their product. All that said I would buy the product again and just be prepared to buy extras and return the defects...
