Great product easy set up

I purchased this system for onsite security work I an currently doing under contract. I have two wired cameras and two wireless along with the 500 gig DVR. Everything is working great. Have had the system set up for over two months now. Only issue is one of the wireless cameras started acting up recently, but I found that unpluging it for a few muninets fixed the problem. It would be nice if you could run a longer BNC cable from the DVR to the recivers so you could get them in better line of site of the cameras though. Currently you can only run the short cable supplyed, anything longer and the reciver wont recive the siginal. That is why it is good to have a couple of wired cameras for more distant or obstructed locations. Over all I am very sadisfied with this system.

Good, however there are some issues

Wireless camera's will work great for days on end, but without much rhyme or reason they lose their connection with the receiver. Manually pairing each one offers no improvement. The only to restore the connection is to R&R the power to the camera or the receiver for that camera or both. Does no good when your remote viewing with a dead camera. Also if your using a 2.4 Ghz WiFi, you need to know the wireless cameras are the same frequency and wipe out your wifi speeds to nearly nothing, so you'll need a dual band router and hopefully your other wifi devices are 5.0 compatible. Another issue is the night time or IR functions of the camera are not adjustable and your stuck with the factory calibration. The cameras do change to night mode long before it's really needed, so quite often your stuck in a low res, B/W mode even with plenty of light. This was confirmed by tricking the sensor to change back to day made resulting in a clear color image. I realize that Lorex made a reasonably affordable wireless camera system, and for the most part it's ok. but sadly there's just no completely reliable wireless camera system out there yet. * 2.4 Ghz - no big deal, get a dual band router for your Wifi devices. * Wireless technology - not as good as a hardwire system, but "okay" * Daytime vs. night time sensitivity is annoying. Turns to IR/Night mode way too easily.

Very nice and easy camera system

Very easy to install and use. The recording system itself is very user friendly and works well. The wireless cameras work great, are easy to conceal, and the night vision mode works nicely. The only down side is the IR LEDs for the night vision can be seen as a dim red light on the camera, but there is no avoiding that. At the price, I feel it is a very affordable and well working set up for any one looking to keep an eye on their property.

Easy Install and set up; limited wireless range

The wireless video surveillance system performed as advertised. Very easy to install and set up! Had the system up and running in 2.5 hours! No special tools or skills required (just a ladder, screw driver, drill). Most time consuming part was running the power supply cords from cameras to electrical outlets (yes, cameras still need a power source even on a wireless system). Overall, I'm very happy with the performance of the system and would recommend.

Only drawback is that the wireless video transmission range is about 60 feet (max)....far less than the 150ft range advertised. I live in a newer home (brick, siding, drywall) with no special materials that should dampen the wireless transmission range from what was advertised for typical homes. I needed to purchase a longer Power Video Audio CCTV Security Camera Cable Wire with BNC RCA Adapter (about $12) to extend the connection from one of the wireless receiver to the DVR and get the receiver closer to the transmitter on the camera. Once wireless receiver was within ~ 60 feet from camera transmitter, problem was solved.

Good home surveillance system

Easy setup wireless camera. Just need to run power extension cable. Easy internet viewing setup. Worked on Android phone. I don't have iPhone to test. But didn't work on Blackberry. The only thing I would think manufacture need to improve is to add audio capability to the camera.

Great Peace of Mind

What's great about it: See my review, easy set-up and wireless

What's not so great: A zoom function would be great, to copy license plate information

Easy to set-up, with wireless capability less wires to drill holes through the wall for. A hole for the power cable from each camera is all you need. The recorder picks up the signal and records up to nine months then re-starts recording. You can save events on a thumbdrive to show law enforcement in the event you need evidence of a crime. At night, the cameras have a red glow, evidence of their infra-red ability.

I would recommend this to a friend!

Good Value System

Decent system with easy setup. Setup in warehouse so some interference from racks reduce the transmission distance but other than that all is OK.

Great System for the Price, easy to setup

What's great about it: Price, Wireless, Set up

What's not so great: so far nothing

I bought this system for my family for Christmas. Was a little skeptical after reading the reviews but took a chance anyway. It was much easier than I had expected. I am also very satisfied with the cameras as well. I do plan on adding more cameras soon.

I would recommend this to a friend!

Works as described

I have had this device for about a week and it works just like described, so it is important to understand what you are getting. Description is accurate; however, I will try to add items that weren't clear for me and my general experience setting it up:

- Set Up: general set up is extremely quick (I connected it to the standard PC monitor). It won't take you more than 5 minutes to set up. Had no issues with wireless at home and even tested at work in my corporate building with lots of wireless interference and thick walls and had no issues at all. Also hid AC wires inside the wall in between sheetrock (made a hole in a wall next to camera and dropped the wire, made another hole at the bottom next to the power outlet and connected it that way. Another option is to put the wire behind closets or near closets to hide it

- Video: multiple options to record video. Highest resolution is webcam type quality, with low frame rate (a bit choppy) another option is to drop resolution to achieve higher frame rate (smoother video). Camera placing has to be as far as possible to get a wider view of the area you are trying to monitor. In poor light night vision turns on as well as in the dark (had no issues reported). Color video with good lighting and black/white in poor lighting conditions or in the dark

- Audio: cameras do not have audio and even though this is a 4 channel DVR you have an option to either add 2 mics for channel 1 & 2 or upgrade to 2 cameras that have mics installed in them

-Recording: multiple options with quality, alerts and logs on events such as motion sensors and etc. You can even set up e-mail alerts with DVR contacting you in case there is motion detected or other issues

-Remote Access: This took a while to set up; I went the path of DDNS advanced set up. The attached CD does a nice job taking you through the port forwarding of your router (I ignored the yoics basic option). The issue is the lorex DDNS service doesn't start working right away so it's hard to say whether the set up was done correctly. Eventually it worked. Remote monitoring could only be done with 1 device at a time logged in, so my wife and I can't remotely monitor at the same time (which is ok as long as one of us is watching). Remote monitor worked for us on Android 3G, iPhone4 and PC (Explorer 9). There is no audio on the phones, and on remote pc which supports back up it would only allow you to hear audio when you playback something that has been already recorded not real time. Make sure you don't test remote access while logged into WIFI or Ethernet that your DVR is currently on (it obviously won't work). Also, WIFI local Ethernet and 4G would monitoring obviously will work better than 3G (better frame rate, so smoother video). But remote monitoring does work and with iPhone it allows for video playback as well.

I am not a computer professional or a professional installer. I was able to set it up by carefully following all directions (between the booklet and quick start up guide for remote access). This was a set up as a nanny cam for me and my wife for our kids in the house. I think the product worked as described if you carefully read the description and follow up the set up guide. It isn't like setting up a home theater it is obviously more complex, while not rocket science either so keep that in mind. The product also comes with a number to access an installer network for a fee (don't know if the network is any good)

Lorex EDGE 4 Port with 4 Wireless Cameras

Bought the Lorex EDGE+ 4-Channel Video Security DVR with 4 Wireless Security Cameras for $528.00 apparently on sale and supposedly 'Used' but after the unpacking, the equipment all looked new. Easily saved a ton of money over what this system could have cost elsewhere. For the value and the technology, this is as good as you can get. The cameras all showed their value by easily placing them in their assigned places near a power receptacle. I also started with a very centralized location for the receivers and DVR almost in 'line of sight' due their 2.4GHz frequency operation which I thought would interfere with our wireless router, but didn't. I just kept all the transmission lines and equipment more than 10 feet apart. The cameras all have to send their transmissions through normal home sheet rock walls, floors, windows and doors each of which are varying in thickness. There is no clear route for the signals, yet the signal strength is stable at 3 bars. The maximum distance for the cameras through the walls, etc. is about 35 ft. to keep the video 'connected'. Otherwise the picture streaming will stop and you will have to relocate the camera, and then 're-power' both the camera and the receiver. All of the receivers were Velcroed flat to the top of the DVR housing that provided a better ground plane. The next best thing is the internet viewing which is possible on a Smartphone (Android OS) and Lorex's DDNS servers or a simple sign up and login to Yoics.com where you can view all the camera views. The same can be seen more quickly in real time using your local LAN intranet connection direct to the DVR's IP address. Last word, this is not for the faint of heart or impatient consumer, tenacity and tech knowledge helps.
