Thermal Security Cameras

With nearly 50 years of experience building high-performance infrared cameras, FLIR is the world leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of thermal imaging infrared cameras. Dedicated to making their cameras both affordable and available to everybody, FLIR’s entry-level cameras are being used in all types of fields, including home maintenance and security.

Heat Seekers

When we see, we see the reflected light that travels off of objects and into our eyes. Visible cameras work in a very similar way. Thermal imagery, on the other hand, is an altogether different process. Instead of light, they detect heat and construct pictures from the differences in temperature.

Thermal Imagery

Everything, be it natural or manmade, generates infrared thermal energy. The hotter something is the more thermal energy it emits. Some things create their own heat signatures, like warm blooded animals or machinery, while others, such as land, rocks, and water absorb heat from the sun during the day and radiate that heat through the night. This creates a world where everything emits minute differences in thermal energy. Thermal cameras construct images from these minute differences. Developed first for the military, thermal imaging is now becoming more commonplace with police, firefighters, and security systems.

See Through Obstructions

With visible cameras, reflected light on atmospheric conditions like smoke, heavy fog or rain can prevent any detailed visibility. Thermal images, however, do not rely on light to see, so these obstructions and even modest foliage do not affect their ability to create high-contrast images.

See in the Dark

Thermal security cameras can see as well at night as they can during the day. Relying on heat signatures rather than light to construct images, thermal cameras provide an undeniable tactical advantage around the clock.

See during the Day

Conventional color contrast provided by conventional visible cameras during the day do not always provide enough information for the viewer to detect potential threats. Thermal signatures, on the other hand, are almost impossible to mask, so if people are hiding in the shadows or in a bush they will be easily detected by a thermal camera. Thermal cameras will never get washed out by bright sources of light, such as headlights on a car or a floodlight that only turns on at night.

Maximize Detection

Thermal energy generally travels through the atmosphere more effectively than visible light. As a result, FLIR thermal cameras can detect potential intruders from much greater distances, giving people much more time to react and respond.

No Hiding

Thermal cameras give you the power to see the one thing intruders can’t disguise – their body heat. Featuring a highly sophisticated analytics system, high contrast thermal imaging will help reduce the likelihood of false alarms as the motion detection is only triggered by moving heat sources and not by things like moving branches from high winds.

The Perfect Compliment

Maximize your coverage by combining Lorex’s top-of-the-line security cameras with FLIR’s high performance thermal cameras. With cameras that see in the visible, the near infrared (night vision), and the thermal, you can be confident that your security system will be there for you when you need it most.
