i am very unhappy with product and customer service my uit wouldn't record they sent me a new one it didn't record i received that one in a week same day i received it i was on phone with tec support i sent it back same day it has been two almost three weeks still haven't received the replacement unite. i been on phone each day for a week for more than an hour each time couldn't get through it says we will call you back still haven't heard anything from them. i reach someone today they tell me it has only been 13 days wait a minute first one i received in a week why do i have to wait know so you are going to make me sit and wait for the next one while my house is not protected. the oldermodel worked great till it burned out i should be compensated with an upgrade to eight camera system.

Had to pay an electrician to install. Never got them up and running on the pc. Android phone loaded easily. App for iPhone 6S took 3 hours to finally load but couldn't see anything. Called tech support. 45 minute wait or leave call back number so I did. They called back 2 1/2 hours later but now it works on the iPhone. I'll worry about the pic later. Good cameras so far it hasn't been 24 hours yet.

I love this system. It works great. The only draw back is I can't add more cameras. It will only accommodate 4. The night vision is good indoors. Lights up my shop very well when its pitch black in there. Outside it's a little darker and hard to make out something in great detail. During the day light hours the pictures are a fantastic quality. In color and very clear. I would recommend this system to anyone on a budget or just starting out on a security system.

I love the quality of the cameras during the day but at night its just not got any clarity or color.
But the worst thing about my system i bought from here is the techs have no idea how to work the units. This is the second system i have owned. I wanted better cameras so i bought new system. Cameras i like but the controler is difficult to move around on. I am so upset it erased the crime after i tried to save it. It erased even when it was set to keep for 30 days. I am not happy at all because i cant press charges now because i have no prof. And the clarity at night is a mess. I want to go back to old system

I purchased this system from the Lorex web-site during their Spring Sale event. The price was much lower than some of the other brands that I had looked at. I was looking for a system that would allow me to view the outside entrances to my home when my wife and I was away.

With the exception of running the cables in the attic, the system was easy to set up and the video is great. I did have some problems being able to view the cameras remotely from outside my network using the Lorex Stratus client on the iPad and Android phone . But once I turned port forwarding on I was able to see the cameras. I'm not sure why as the instructions for the client software said this wasn't necessary. I do have problems with one of the camera not working at night when it is dark. I called tech support and they are sending me another camera.

Before I retired, I had some dealings with security cameras and DVRs where I worked and I must say this system does most everything that the ones we had a work do and for a lot less money.

I would recommend this system to anyone looking for a basic security system.

Works great. Cross compatible with other 960H cameras. Night vision is satisfactory. Has been outside in the winter in up to -14 F and heavy blizzards. Used to get a positive ID for the police department with a vehicle that was broken into in the drive way and recoup losses. More than pays for itself. Remote viewing app on the android platform is useless. Remote viewing from a laptop/ desktop is satisfactory.

The resolution of the new camera system is much higher than my old security camera system. Besides, the new system is able to work under a lower lighting environment. My only complaint is the delay in showing the captured image. In reality, this does not affect the video information required for security purpose. A good system overall.

I am not a Lorex employee but I do install Security camera system for customers. I believe I can provide some insight of what you should expect before you purchase a system. As I always advice my customers regarding the imagination and reality.
This is a Security camera system with 960H recording.
960H resolution is only half of 720P resolution. To many of you might have already upgraded your TV to 720P or 1080P and 4K resolution TV in the future. Therefore, you can imagine 960H resolution in full screen. However, The resolution would be acceptable if you have only 4 split screen on your 22" monitor.
Do not compare 960H resolution with what you are seeing in the Gas station security camera system. Due to high crime rate, Gas station usually in expensive camera system to protect their revenue. Cost about $2000 per camera at Gas stations.
It is never easy to DIY installing a wired security camera system by yourself.
That's why I always advice customers not to start something that they cannot do and hire me later to clean up their mess.

The system is ok for a budget priced unit. I was able to get the system up and running without to much difficulty. The wireless camera's work on the same frequency 2.4 that most home wireless signals also use, This causes very slow connections to the internet on our tablets, phone and other devices using the same frequency. Some routers will broadcast of a higher band 5.0 which works great but has a sorter range resulting in dead spots around the house. There is tons of information on the Lorex website it is hard to find the details. The online manual is ok but there is no definitions as to what impact an option has IE pre record. Also if you are setting up a remote connection to your table or phone , you will need to set up port forwarding on your router. If you do not and your router changes the IP port number as sometimes happens when you lease renews, you will not be able to connect through your phone or tablet.

I purchased this product from Best Buy and the salesman told me that this is a great system and the video is crystal clear day and night were you can see the persons face. I had damage to my house last night so this morning I looked at the video and you can not see the persons face at all. Was on phone with tech support for about 2 hours and they couldn't help me. Kept making excuses. Two of my neighbors want to get cameras and now I have to tell them to stay away from Lorex. You sell these systems think you would have your own or would know of a good program to clean up the pictures. Nothing. This was a waste of my money and a waste of 2 hours of my time. Thanks for nothing not even an offer to upgrade to a better system. Thanks for nothing. I hope you like losing money cause I will tell my neighbors to find another brand. Also can't understand why your tech and customers service don't have a corporate phone number for people to call. Would not recommend to anybody.

Camera's seem to work well in general and initial setup was quick but we encountered some difficulty. Firstly we experienced major interference with our wireless internet router. We are installing a new 5g router now and hopefully this will solve our problem. We are are also having some trouble with detection of certain types of motion on a few of the cameras and plan to call customer service once we develop a verifiable list of problems. It is possible we do not have the settings correct so I hesitate to condemn the system but we are certainly struggling. Better instruction details should have been included with the product as website searches for pertinent information has been cumbersome at best. TJ

Not user friendly, the mouse does not work, the remote does not work, had to buy additional range extenders to make it work as the box said it would. would not buy this brand again. I give it only 4-stars. First the CONS, which are fairly minor, then the PROS: CONS: (1) The mouse is MUCH too sensitive. A slight mouse movement equals a large screen movement. This makes "typing" into the on-screen keyboard very finicky. (2) No USB keyboard support to simplify username/password entry, so setup can be cumbersome. (3) DVR *ONLY* works with analog signals, will not directly support IP cameras, despite the usefulness of its LAN connection. (4) Cannot mask-out an area several pixels wide at extreme edges for the motion detection, causing some false triggering. (5) It took a few days to get a response from Tech Support. (6) The WEBsite form for customer Tech Support responses only allows three sentences each time, then simply ceases accepting input! This review, for example, would require about a DOZEN separate "comment" entries. (7) In night vision mode, a person less than about 10~15 feet from camera will have their face "washed-out" by excess brightness. (Auto AGC should compensate, but it doesn't.) (8) Video/control panel does not open in computer browser, it requires a specific app to open it in Windows. (Said app must be downloaded from the Internet, the one the DVR links to is non-Windows.) (9) Still cannot get Internet/remote access working, but inside our building WiFi coverage, it's good. (Could be router issues. Help files minimally helpful.) (10) Some of the included DVR wires are a little too short. PROS: (1) Fairly easy to set up the wireless cameras, and they have reasonable signal range. (2) Cameras have good daylight image quality and excellent night vision range. (3) Ability to define motion-sensitive areas is great, except for pixel-edges referenced above. (4) The apps for iPhone and Android work well. (5) The auto-record setup for motion detection is fairly straightforward, but I am a very tech savvy person... so it may be more difficult for laypersons. (The over-sensitive mouse is also a factor.) (6) Ability to watch live video on more than one device or computer, simultaneously, is useful. (Set to 5 FPS each camera, we have two cams.) (7) For me, setting the DVR system up with a fixed IP address on our LAN was fairly easy, but again, I am an IT/Tech person.

Installation was easy and after following the quick set-up instructions, I was able to see all outdoor areas of my home on TV, Laptop and, thanks to Shawna, my IPhone 6! The cameras are great! The inordinate amount of hook-ups and connections is beyond ridiculous. Customer Support is a joke! And the apps... Waste of space - they don't even FUNCTION! I can't believe we wasted our money on this system! It bogs down our wifi, only runs in "relay" mode, and no one seems to know how to get it out of relay mode! The box had 4 cameras and the DVR, along with 10 "quick start guides," all having different model numbers. The website listed for support comes up with a 404 error, and their YouTube channel is worthless! Oh, and NO support for mac users! If I could give negative stars, I would!

The unit is easy to set up. There was a need to make sure the monitor and system were compatible as far as video resolution, but the technical support team worked me through it. Tech support were friendly, helpful and easily understood. The wait time was a problem, but the call back option freed me from listening to hours of elevator music. Once the system was up and running, I found the images clear and satisfactory. What I haven't yet done is explore the setup options. Plan to play with them a bit this weekend. After viewing the quality of the images produced by the system, I intend to buy two more cameras to complete the system. Overall, I'm pleased with the choice.

I would give your product a mediocre grade. For several hundred dollars I would expect: charger for DVR with longer cable; larger & stronger screws for mounting cameras to exterior wall; gaskets for mounting cameras outside; template for mounting holes; a mounting design which allows right-facing and left-facing full adjustment (the antenna does not allow tight left-facing position!); and manuals!! Please consider improving the installation kit. Also, the iPhone and Android apps are very slow. And the GUI: you need to move on from "DOS style menus" to something more up-to-date.

Price vs functions is first rate. Setup was a breeze. Remote viewing is the greatest capability of a system in this price range. Being able to view my cameras anywhere, I travel a lot, gives me the peace of mind I need assure my property and family are safe. The motion detection feature is wonderful where I can have a picture sent to my email address and view what is going on, then, I can review the video footage to make sure all is OK. In retrospect, I should have gone with at least 8 cams for widest coverage. 4 cams does the job on each corner of my house. I would recommend a Lorex system to anyone looking for a system such as this.

I am happy to recommend Lorex for more than a few reasons. To begin, I did have a problem with my original DVR, but with a few emails and a phone conversation, Lorex quickly replaced it at no cost to me. Perhaps more importantly, the act of putting my cameras on the internet was the easiest I ever experienced because of the software provided and the extremely easy directions to create my external IP address. I have been using cameras since 2000 and this was my best experience. BTW I don't always use my cameras for security. Having owned a restaurant and coffee shop, I installed cameras on a another building and my customers could sit in the coffee shop and see the buses coming from 7 blocks away rather than having 7 seconds from when the bus turned the corner. Additionally I now have a consignment shop and I will be using these cameras to display my products for sale, changing them on a daily basis. In both cases I allow the neighbors/customers to see the IP address so they can either see the buses coming or what I have to sell in my shop

The Lorex ECO2 DVR 8 camera system exceeds our expectations. The picture quality of the cameras are clear, and the ability to set them on motion to record is great. We travel a lot, and with the capability of checking our home when on a trip is great. I can check the watering system for my garden and lawns, in case a solenoid sticks open. The front door camera allows us to screen sales people. The system is easy to set up.

Excellent system but not for Everyone



Hard wired system. After set up I realize that a wireless would have been easier and better for the job of keeping an eye on my apt. With a rash of robberies in the building (believed to be someone who works or lives here) I decided it was time for a system. Set up wasn't hard but hiding the wires was annoying and a system with cut wires isn't useful.



Over all the system is excellent for the cost of $350. It has features that others don't. BUT it has some drawbacks that made me rate it 3 stars.



One wired limits it and I needed to replace on wire right off. Making me think that normal wear would require replacement of wires in the future.



Two the cameras are quite visible great for prevention but horrible if you are dealing with an actual criminal vs vandal. It makes it easy to spot and disable the unit by cutting the wire or spraying it with paint while keeping their face covered.



Now the great things about it. It has vision is great at night. Picture is clear. DVR has an alert that lets you know when the motion detector is set off. Works for me because my apartment is in a corner of a building and no one but my elderly old neighbor set it off. She doesn't go out much and it's good to know when she is walking because she fell a few years back and was on the floor for 20 minutes before anyone found her. So the alert helps me keep my place safe and lets me watch out for her. I can see the alerts getting annoying in a high traffic area.



The android app lets me watch on my phone. Which honestly is kind of creepy. I went out and came home with my friend Diana and my husband got an alert so he know before the he came home that we were hanging out. Again creepy but I would want to know if someone breaks in while I'm out or tries to...so. It gives me the opportunity of calling the cops while I'm out. Keeping us safer.



Now 3 cameras are indoors and I have had to put on outdoors. One wire indoors needed to be replaced. The box said the outdoor camera needs to be protected from snow and rain. Fine if you have a one or two storey building. But I live on the fifth floor... That high with some winds snow and rain goes sideways. No way of protecting the camera with out cutting visibility. Since installation it hasn't snowed and we have only had light rain. It might be cynical of me but I think that camera is probably going to be an issue once we have our north east winter. Making me wonder how outdoors the system is.



So if you live in a house, with cover for the cameras, and are afraid of vandals or dumb crooks and think a system will prevent crime. It is an excellent system.



If you want a system that will alert you of motion so you can call the cops while you are out or on vacation. It's an excellent system.



If it is a back up system that you use with a wireless. It's excellent.



If you want a overall system for crime, in cold areas of the country or apt buildings - pass on it. Go instead for a wireless, smaller camera and tougher weather proof cameras instead. It might be more expensive but it is worth it.

Just Installed


I have this installed by a professional installer and it turned out very well. Except for the extra wires needed and the bigger screws for the camera installation everything came with the order. I have not yet tried the over the INTERNET monitoring although I have set it up to do it. Picture quality is good with adequate light. The night vision range seems to be about 20 to 30 feet from the camera in total darkness.



Overall I give it 4 stars.

Very Good for the Price


I bought this to use before going on vacation and have been satisfied with the results for the most part. A couple hours for the install, a few minutes to setup the software. It produces a great picture for daytime and a fairly good picture for night-time. I love being able to watch the video feed on my Android Phone from anywhere I am. After a month I did have one camera stop working. I called and faxed in the information to get it replaced. I am awaiting a new camera so I will follow-up on this review once I see how well their customer service is.

Lorex excels


I was pretty skeptical about this bargain cost unit but Lorex has proven themselves once again. The unit has all the features listed, was easy to set up, pretty much used the defaults and is intuitive to use. I have some firewall issues to work out so I haven't set it up for web access yet but having done this with other Lorex units, I believe it will work well.



The cameras are low end, but functional. If I replace them, I will likely look for a higher end camera.

I purchased this item after several incidents of dumping in back alley.

- It’s easy to set up and install.

- Works ok both in the day and night. The cameras work but the resolution is not good enough to be able to read license plates.

- The recorder works ok but is a little tricky to find the time you are looking for, it goes in 15 minute increments.

- After purchasing found same system for as much as 100 dollars less elsewhere.





For a basic system I guess it works ok.

Almost bought this same system at PC Richards on sale at $459 but found it at Amazon for $306. Amazon, you’ve done it again. It’s a great system. You get everything you need to set it up and protect your property. Set up motion sensors on the system and the camera only records when it senses motion. All recording is put on a hard disc drive that formats itself when it fills up. You can access any video by date and time right on your monitor or watch it from your computer. You can even watch your home from your cell phone. So many amenities I can’t list them. If you need a security system, this is the one and Amazon is the place to get it from. Always check online for better prices, there's no middleman and from experience, Amazon has the best prices around.

Works But Not Built To Last


I set this up over about a week and though it works well, the lack of quality is a cause for concern. I have my doubts that the cameras will hold up to exterior conditions and found some of the camera connections to be quite flimsy.

The thread that is inside the camera body is not really strong enough and strips out if over tightened even by hand!



The cables are long enough and the set up is fairly easy if you are enough of a handyman, a card comes in the package that appears to offer free installation but the wording is dodgy enough to give me doubts as to if it is really free or not.



I have three of the cameras up and working, the quality of the video is quite good , full color in daylight, monochrome at night, the fourth camera does not work properly, it seem to be an issue with the cable itself. The camera works when connected to one of the other cables.



I have not yet connected the system to the internet and not sure if I will but will add an update if I do. On your TV screen a window divided into for appears with live images form each camera, a C on each screen denotes that it is recording continuously and the 500 GB hard drive will hold plenty of video. It can be adjusted to record when motion is detected and individual cameras can be set to record or not.



It has a lot of features, a few "help" videos are available on the included CD which offers a player for the video playback on your PC if you plan tot use it that way.



For the price, it is an OK system but I am just concerned about the lack of quality built into this system.

I have this installed in my home and one of my rental properties. I also administer a number of 16 and 8 camera systems where I work. I have looked at just DVR's costing 2-3 times as much with no cameras and like this one better. The interface is intuitive. You can adjust the recording resolution on a per camera basis. This allows high resolution only where needed which extends how far back you can review.

Playback over the internet is limited to 1 camera at a time. Setting motion areas over the internet is difficult because it doesn't show the camera view so do it at the unit.



The top center position of the time stamp blocks areas I want to view and can't be changed. Bottom center would be better. Peoples feet would be blocked instead of faces.

Can easily make a .avi file of recorded video which will play on any windows media player equipped PC.



The smartphone blackberry interface is great - touch screen - 1 camera at a time. Also the programs that set your router up work great if you have a router on the list.



The camera pictures are OK up to 30-40 ft away. You will need higher resolution models beyond that distance.



Night vision is good up to 15-20 feet. Limited beyond that.



I liked this ECO version better than the pricier edge unit. For the money, I don't think you can beat it.

Good value, easy to use, good image quality


I've been watching the price of security cameras drop for a while, but the price of this package really caught my attention- the same package is being sold at Costco right now for $50 more! Just a few years ago, a good IR illuminated camera would cost well over $100, and a 4-channel DVR would cost $350 or more- and here we have four cameras and a DVR for less than the price of a DVR alone. So just how good is this package?



Pretty good, actually! I've only got one of the four cameras set up so far, but it works very well. Image quality is good, and the IR illumination provides coverage out to the boundaries of my small suburban lot. Setup is very easy. Plug a VGA video monitor (I happened to have a Hitachi LCD display left over from my last Windows system) into the DVR,, plug in the power and mouse, optionally run a cable to your Internet router, and you're ready to start adding cameras. Each of the four supplied comes with a wall wart power supply, a mount, and 60' of cable, which is probably enough to cover the typical small business or home with careful DVR placement. The cable carries both video AND power, so you can locate your power supplies on a strop alongside the DVR itself- much easier than running two cables, or trying to find power near the camera (although that's an option.) I'd like to mount one camera on the front of my detached garage, which means I'll have to make up a custom cable for that location. I've got a spool of surplus silicone-filled, burial RG-6 that should work, and I can pick up power for the camera in the garage.



My single camera is temporarily mounted out a second-floor window in the back of the house, but I'll be adding the others once I decide where to drill, and where to run the cables. The easiest thing to do would be to put the DVR in the basement, along with all my networking equipment. You'd think having the DVR in the basement would be kind of pointless, but one of the really nice things about this system is that it's networked. You can view the DVR output from any computer on your home network- or if you've got a smartphone, from pretty much anywhere. There's a motion detector built into the DVR that allows you to program it to send you alerts via phone, another very useful feature that used to only be available on high-end systems.



Summary: For the money, there's a lot of hardware here. Time will tell how well it holds up under use, but so far it looks like a good value for the homeowner or small business owner looking for a good video security system that won't break the bank.

Good middle of the road system


We tested this for about a week, in various situations. The fact that the system has hard-wired cameras meant our testing was limited to a reach within cable distance. For a permanent installation, you can stick these anywhere. They are both outdoor and indoor use.



If you think that you will be able to enjoy split screen use on your PC monitor, it won't happen. This system needs its own monitor. If you hook it up to your PC monitor, you'll have to unhook it to use your monitor for PC use. However, you are able to view as many cameras as you have hooked up (comes with 4) at once, via a quad screen display.



You can access your camera images, live, online (instructions in manual). However in actuality this caused some difficulty. The images would freeze, lag, or otherwise not update, on a pretty regular basis. Hours spent trying to figure out why, left us frustrated. It was the same from our smartphone as it was on a remote computer.



PROS

* The recording is crisp and clear, ID'ing someone on the recordings should be easy if necessary

* It works just as well in low/no light as it does in regular lighting



Compared to other cameras we have tested in this price range, this is a great system at a great price, if you don't mind the cons.

This is comparable to a much pricier system we installed at our shop, and in my opinion the video quality and ease of playback on this Lorex system are actually superior.

Overall however we liked this system very much, the quality of the images on this system is better than many higher priced systems, and the ease of playback and finding events was impressive. We will eventually install this system throughout the house and enjoy using it full time.
