Choosing the right security system

differences between Lorex MPX analog HD security systems and Lorex NVR security systems
MPX or IP? What security systems to choose? analog or digital?
analog HD security monitoring for large properties

Flexible analog security installations

Each camera in this system uses a single RG59 siamese BNC cable to connect camera, power, and DVR. The 16-channel DVR is also backwards-compatible, which means your older compatible BNC cameras can still be used to expand your security coverage without purchasing additional cameras.

HD cameras and PTZ are great along with computer and mobile software. Only two complaints I have is (1) sold me an HD system and advertised an HD monitor with the package, which was not the case and returned the monitor (2) customer service absolutely return phone calls and the wait time to talk to someone is horrendous..

The monitor is advertised as 1600x900. Our apologies for any confusion in this matter

I bought a complete new system WITH a (1) year warranty online 11-25-2015 and received it December 5, 2015 and set it up with the 8 camera's that came with the system. On 9-5-2016 one of the camera's went out so I looked into it and the adapter is messed up so it wont work. Today 9-16-2016 I called to file a claim on a replacement camera and the automated service keeps telling they are getting a lot of calls and the wait would be 30 minutes for a rep so I followed their prompt to receive a call back withing 30 minutes and I wouldn't lose my spot. Well that was 5 hours ago and I called 7 times, plus tried to hold to wait on a rep but 65 minutes later and I'm still on hold for the next representative. I feel like Freebie on friends that will never reach a representative !!
I filed a ticket but I'm sure I'll have to repeat it 10 times like the other person who mentioned it when they filled out a review on here !
Then I try to get a live chat with their live help but it say's they are offline ? SERIOUSLY ????????
I will never buy from this site again and I will let my business friends to highly recommend anyone but Lorex because they ONLY answer calls with sale !!

Our apologies for any difficulty you experienced. We have replied to your inquiry and await your information in order to process the replacement. Please see your support ticket. Thank you.

I purchased a system online from Lorex and was very happy with the deal at the time. I received an email thanking me for my order and that was it. After a few days i kept checking the status of my order and it was stuck on processing. I eventually called and was shooed of the pone because it was lunch time and they said they would call back in an hour. Three hours past and still no call so I call back, I again talked to a person who's only goal was to get me off the phone. They did look into my order and it was placed on hold because they needed me to confirm the order. I asked when they were going to let me know this, and his response was don't worry about, it is now been released. I then asked for my express shipping to be refunded and he totally ignored me and repeated don't worry about it is now been released thanks for calling. CLICK.

Our apologies for the experience you had and delay with your order which was on review. We have refunded your shipping charge and hope the system is working well for you.

I purchased a system online from Lorex during the Black Friday event and was very happy with the deal at the time. I received an email giving me a tracking number and after checking was happy with a Dec 3rd delivery date. On Dec 3rd I received half of my order and called Lorex right away. They took my information and said they would get back to me. Long story short they didn't. I had to log 4 tickets and numerous phone calls before finallay, on Dec 15th, I talked to someone who helped me. They said the DVR was still in the warehouse and he would have it expedited. It was delivered on December 23rd but had I not persistently called and created new tickets I am not sure when I would have received the rest of my delivery. Had they sent me an email when the first part of my shipment was sent giving me an expected date to receive the rest of my shipment, a lot of aggravation could have been avoided. Due to the holidays the system has yet to be installed. I will review again once I get the system up and running. THIS IS A CUSTOMER SERVICE REVIEW..

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the delay with your order and hope everything is working well for you.

After spending hours searching the Internet and researching the pros and cons as well as ratings I decided to purchase Lorex. I purchased Lorex for many reasons. Lorex was easy to set up, how to videos give you step by step information, customer service is excellent, ease of installation as well as clear images from a distance on monitor. The complete system for the price is excellent. To be able to monitor my garage, swimming pool as well as hot tub plus home security from within the home is perfect.

Called Tech support with a couple of questions and Joseph MacDonald answered all my questions and was very helpful. Am happy with Lorex and everything is running well !

I have a similar system as this one which I bought at Costco. It took me hard work to install the system to hide the wires thru the attic. Less than 2 years after installation and 2 of the cameras are BAD. Can't take them back to get them exchange because the warranty ran out. I sent emails to Lorex about it and they did not even response to my emails. I will never buy they're products again!

LOVE my Lorex security system! It wasn't hard to set it up. It took some time and a few calls to set it up on my IPhone and IPad. The night vision is ok, could be better. The DVR started makig very loud noise so had to get a replacement. Other than that works great!

So far this is a good system. It is my first so I can't compare. Did a lot of research and lorex faired very well. The price could not be beat for the system I bought. The only complaint that I have is the dvr was backordered and there was no communication about this. Said it was in stock when I ordered it but they did overnight it as soon as they had it. Great pic also. I would give five stars but the communication needs a little work.

I purchased my Lorex L22M84 Vantage LH 110 Eco Series in July 2013. I am just getting around to hooking and setting the system up. At first I was a little bit intimidated to take on this challenge but to my surprise it was not to bad to connect and set up. I have connected it to my wireless devices, 2 laptops , smart tv , I Pad and the monitor that came with it. I am really enjoying it immensely. I now can see things going on outside my house that I would never have believed. My system came with 4 cameras and I am going to purchase 2 additional cameras. The night vision is far better than I expected . The only problem that I really had is that my monitor was defected and I am returning it to Lorex for a replacement. This was a great purchase and I am so proud of it. Jred

Purchased date June 30th.
So fare not bad, only problem, sometimes when searching a recording it's blank ,unless two cameras are aimed at the same object , it' s not worth $1400.00.
It can not be zoomed in, or record motions only.
However, it's better than a lot off products out there.

LOVE my Lorex security system...a BELIEVER!!!

I've had my Lorex security camera system (8 cameras) for almost a year now. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the product. My favorite feature is being able to connect with my iPhone and check on things at the house without being there. This is super helpful with teenagers being home without mom and dad. I can see if they are swimming (a no no without mom or dad home), if they make curfew (is the car in the driveway), or if there is anything going on (party, etc) that shouldn't be.

I can also see if there is a package on my front porch or if my husband has made it home from work....all from my phone. It's amazing!!! Thanks, Lorex! You've simplified my life!! Easy to install, easy to use - I love it!

I got this product in November and it has been working ok since the installation. I have a had one camera go bad on me within 6 months, but they replaced it for free. The resolution is just good enough. Can't really make out the face, but at least you can see if someone is there and where they are. The range of the camera is not that great. I was only able to put one camera outside since it would not work in some places. I do have it disconnect once in awhile.

I do like the fact that it is wireless so i can move the camera around whenever I feel like it. Also, when you move, you can take it with you.

The Technical Support is pretty good, but you have to wait about 30 min or so on hold to get a hold of them.

My security system failed, and I ordered this as a replacement. Had the system delivered within three days, and installed it in about 3 hours. Three days later my wife's car was vandalized in our driveway. I had excellent videos of the incident that I provided to the police.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

More features and better image than most...

I have been told by a few salesman that the Lorex Products are overpriced without justification. After studying complete systems for a few weeks, I have learned that Lorex offers a few significant benefits over other brands. One of them is the auto-port forwarding software that comes with their dvr surveilance systems. This proprietary software automatically configures just about any router to enable remote internet viewing of your system. This is complimented by offering their own exclusive DDNS access to Lorex customers at no additional cost. For example, if I choose a username of homesec, my internet website would be From any computer, I am now able to access my system, reliably. I have streamed it simutaneously from two remote locations for over 24 hrs straight and still have a live feed. I am very happy with the high level of thoughfulness that went into the interface. I do not know if this is a feature available anywhere else, but I am able to control every possible feature and function from a remote browser and can set multiple permissions for multiple users.

Aside from the DVR, the cameras are also better than most comperable systems. They include 480 lines of resolution, 122 degree f operating temp, IP66 (very high) weatherproof rating, and a proprietary auto mechanical IR filter cut that helps display the best image at all times. The image is also remarkably flat with a 50 degree field of view. The viewing angle is average, but still better than many. I purchased an additional 4 cameras (sg7530) that have a 73 degree field of view to compliment the system. The cameras also use less power than most at 250 mW with IR on. The LED monitor makes this deal outstanding. It is so light and uses only 9w of power. I have 4 cameras connected along with the DVR, gigabit switch, and monitor to a 900VA Belkin UPS. It only uses 6-7% of load. I ran a 2 hour deep cycle test and the battery only dropped to 62%!!! I can run the system and view the display for a very long time if power were to go out. It would be nice to run this system off of a solar/deep cycle bettery setup to make it completely grid independant for an effectively perpetual security surveilance system.

Anyway, I am not going over all of the features that everyone else has already mentioned. Instead I thoughn it important to diuscuss the ones that sold me after very extensive research and comparison. One other thing I learned about CCTV systems, in general is that cat5 wiring is easier to run and better than coax. It also allows you more options (audio, ptz control, etc) all in a single smaller cable (use solid core 24ga). "Videosecu" offers cat5 breakout dongle sets that convert rj45 to cctv power, video, and audio. The last of the 4 prs can be used to control a PTZ or as an alarm or sensor input. With an understanding of the importance of security and a stubborn never give up mentality, this system can be incorperated to any home and provide commercial quality performance (assuming th HDD is truly 100% duty cycle).

I only gave it 4 stars, because I would like some of the logitech wilife/alert features and options to be incorperated into the software. That being said, at least I do not have to pay a yearly fee like with the Logitech system. Overall, outstanding and well thought out grab and go package. When choosing a system, make sure you seriously consider the number of cameras you may need vs the number of channels on the DVR. IF you are going to put 4, then get an 8 channel. If you are going to put 7 then get a 16. Too late for me, but here is the issue. A 4 channel system provided a max of 120 frames per second, 8channel=240FPS, 16channel= 480 FPS. That effectively means that at the highest resolution and picture quality, you will have only 7.5 FPF if you max out that system's cameras. I dont know about you, but 7.5 fps is very choppy to me. If that does not matter to you, then dont sweat it, but I want the smoothest, biggest, best picture possible on as many cameras as possible. Study it further if this means anything to you. FYI- none of thes systems are "easy" to setup, if you plan to use all of the features, but the instructions are excellently detailed and use proper English. Anyway, if there are any problems,I will update. So far, so good.

Hope this helps!!!

Camera Quality pretty good for the price

This video surveillance system comes with 4 security cameras which can be mounted both indoors and outdoors. The setup was easy, but a I've run into a few minor issues with the networking solutions.

The system claims to offer an easy setup for putting your camera feeds online to view on your mobile phone or tablet over the internet. So far, I've followed the step by step process and still not able to do so. Of course, I'll continue trying, but it's worth mentioning.

- Good quality color picture with zooming capability and even night vision.

- Records your camera feeds in a nice sized DVR.

- Provides the capability to expand your picture onto multiple TV's and online as well.

- The actual cords that are provided with each camera are only 60 ft. long, so if you have a fairly large house, you'll have to shell out an additional $40 to $50 to buy some extension cables online to connect everything back to the main DVR hub.

- The online networking capability has been difficult to step, even though I've followed their step by step setup instructions to a T.

That being said, I did some research, and their product is VERY reasonably priced for what they're offering. I'd recommend it.

Full featured security system

This product is a full security system including a monitor, four cameras and a DVR with the capability of handling up to 8 cameras. Also included are cabling for the cameras. While manuals are provided for setup, professional installation may be required. The software itself is not too difficult to use and is highly configurable. The cameras function well and operate in both day and night conditions. The DVR can be configured for remote access from a browser or mobile device and (positive) can be manually configured to avoid conflicts with other devices or servers on the network.

Overall, I liked this system a lot. I didn't have any problems getting it set up and using it. The interface is straightforward and the manuals do a good job of explaining how the many features work.

Great value for the price...

For a totally different view of these products, let me tell you about our experience (this co-written by my computer consultant who has installed a bunch of these systems at various small businesses and has 40 years of experience with computers and technology of all types; has a Masters in Electrical Engineering and owns a Lorex system at his shop). First of all, my tech guy installed 2 L20WD's (smaller brother of the L23) three years ago. We run them 24x7x365. They have both been upgraded to larger disk drives (highly recommended and easy). We run 16 cameras, 8 in and 8 outside. All has worked great with no problems. Neither rain, snow or ice has phased those outside cams at all and we have one on a tree 250 feet from the main building. We offload (archive) both systems to an FTP server in-house. That is a nice feature (and who cares that the CODEC used to play the files is old; it works fine). The camera quality is pretty good considering the price. I mean you aren't paying for a $10,000 system here. We did upgrade 2 of the cams to expensive SONY wide-angles for specific needs. One of the SONY cams died(almost $400 for it!), but none of the Lorex cams has; all OK. In over three years of use, no problems except for one minor issue. Our archives to the FTP are very sensitive to network traffic. If both systems are trying to archive at the same time, one often fails. We stagger them to avoid this (start one at 5PM, the other at 9PM to get 7-5PM footage). There have been zero hardware failures in either system in the three years we have had the units. We have had no problems with the power bricks getting hot. My tech loves the remote viewing software which he can use from any of the PCs in the building. You can set up any PC in the LAN to be a viewing station for the units. You can monitor 1, 4 or all 8 cameras live in a window on a PC (put it up in a corner on a large monitor and do all your other work as normal). Remote viewing is possible. We are on Amazon now to buy a third system for this site and we couldn't believe the negative review that was written. I mean, for the price, these units are a bargain. We love them. My tech recommends hooking them up to battery backup/surge units which we have here. He also has talked to their tech support many times and, although maybe not rocket scientists, they always got any questions answered. Look, you are getting a complete 4 camera system with a good quality screen and a DVR for under two grand! Like we said, maybe not the $20,000 system you could buy, but do you really need that? For a small business or home, these are fine. If you were only looking at value for the dollar, I would give these systems 5 stars. Hardware quality is probably average at 3 stars, as is the software. The user interface is pretty good in our opinion and very easy to use. We thought the manuals could have been more detailed, but sufficient to get us running. As they say, your experience may vary... We're happy.
