This system was a replacement of a Samsung security system. And the difference is night and day. FLIR/Lorex have really stepped up their game.

The setup was simple as I was just replacing the cameras and DVR on an existing system. Where the power really came into play was the FLIR Cloud app. It was such a breeze to set up. Gone are the days of having to edit settings in my modem. I simply installed the app, used the QR code on the DVR (which just auto-populated the device ID... something I manually entered when setting up the app on other devices), and voila! I was viewing my cameras immediately. The default view was a lower-res image. But I easily went into the settings and changed them all to D1. Now I've got high-res viewing from my mobile devices.

The actual DVR menu/interface isn't as intuitive as I would have liked. It did require some IMing with tech support. I wanted to have a static display of all 16 cameras, and then when motion is detected, I wanted that camera go to full screen. After the standard time, I wanted it to go back to the view of all 16. I have been unable to make this happen. The only solution I found so far is to set it where the camera goes to full screen upon motion, but you have to set the system on sequence for it to move away from the full-screen of the last camera that had motion. (i.e. If no further motion occurred for an hour, the screen would display a full-screen of the last camera that had motion until motion is detected again. I would like it to go back to the 16 camera view.) It could be user error, so more research required on my part. But by setting the cameras on sequence, after a certain amount of time, the full screen of the last camera to have motion stops and the system goes back into the sequence. And that's a pretty minor issue in the grand scheme of things.

All in all - a 5 star for my purposes.

Bought this item last year April 20th. Few days ago the DVR power went off and never turn on. Lorex technical support says its dead, never going be work again. They told me to call sales service to get a good discount for replacement since my one year standert warranty went up last month. I called sales service and they trying be smart to offer me 10% discount which is already discounted (Memorial Day promo code) on their website. After I told that they offer only 5% discount. I refused their offer and now looking to buy new DVR. After read all other reviewers the Lorex never had good or standard customer service. Their customer service has third world standard. So, do not deal with Lorex anymore. Thank you

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. Our sales team was happy to assist you further with this.

PROS: the replacement DVR machine is much quieter than the original shipment, relatively better than my first system due to hd,

CONS: enlargement capability is a false advertisement - cannot see after enlargement, electronic parts stability need improvement because it trigger unnecessary recording eventhough there is no object moving, given 16 channel outlets - the spacing between are too tight,

NOT RATED YET: smart search capability need more testing - I am not able to save time when searching which I suspect is due to the unnecessary recording noted above

WARRANTY SERVICE DEPT: extremely poor - they keep ignoring my requests and never phone back and it took about a month of chasing before I come across someone sensible of prudent customer service - it took a whole month to get a replacement initiated for shipping

TECHNICAL DEPT: the expertise level vary from person to person, with one made a mistake that result in me not able to record important event for about a week, I am still not fully setup,

MANUAL: very poorly written - result in more phone calls, incorrect information

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you are not completely satisfied with your system. The system offers image enlargement capabilities but if you're looking to zoom in on an object we recommend looking into a varifocal lens or PTZ camera. Our sales team will be happy to assist you with this - 1-888-425-6739, option 1.

Great camera system! I would def. recommend. Only issue I have had is the power supply to the DVR. If I don't have it in a certain position it powers the DVR on and off. About to contact customer service for replacement. I have had it installed for about a week.

Great product for a great price. Exceptions...too many power sources for 16 cameras, needs/requires too much space for plug strip to hold so many; need longer wires...perhaps with this many cameras maybe supply about 4 or 5 with longer wires or supply some long jumpers. Otherwise, love it!!!

I purchased these cameras to install in a movie theater. I was very impressed with how sleek and light they were. They were very easy to install and the clarity even with the night vision is amazing! The DVR took a little time getting acquainted with it, but it works just fine. Well worth the price and more.

I purchased this system and installed it at a car wash. It was easy to install and set-up and the price was great. I was quickly able to access it through both my iPhone and computers (have both PC and Mac). We have already caught someone illegally dumping at the site as we were able to retrieve the tag number. I will be purchasing additional systems for other locations!

This is the second Lorex system I have installed in my home. The high definition cameras make a huge difference and really work well. I am extremely happy with this system and being able to simply scan the code on top of the unit and see the cameras on my smartphone is very nice. I would highly recommend this system.

Replaced an existing system we had after seeing one of these systems installed at a friends business. The HD cameras and monitor are absolutely the way to go. The real purpose of a surveillance system is identification. With this system you can actually identify each individual you see on the system!

Did complete installation and setup myself without the need of tech support. That means it was really simple if I did it! Everything works just like they advertise.

Thanks for a great product Lorex.

A year ago we purchased 2 four packs of HD cameras and DVR for two locations. We couldn't get proper answers about cameras being outside in very cold temperatures. We have gone through one of the coldest winters on record (stretches of 2-3 weeks at 30 to 35 below) and the cameras worked fine.(still would like to find a heater for them).
Being so satisfied we have now purchased the 8 pack of HD to compliment the commercial units we have had in our business for the last 20 years.

So far installed 6/8 HD cameras and very happy with quality. With settings on motion only and optional second hard disk installed should get a couple months of history also. Operating the system from the included monitor is very intuitive and quick. Having problems with Android app disconnecting. There seems to be a glitch when you switch from landscape to portrait it disconnects every time. Also unable to operate playback mode from client software on either my pc or mac at home.
Great system though!

AWsome HD

Pros: beautiful image quality, great play back over the web pc and i pad, top notch tech support, a snap to set up and use, reasonable price

Cons: not enough cameras, records at to lo a frame rate for my liking

"After owning an older Lorex system (trouble free for 4 years) I saw this HD system on costo's web site and decided it would be great to watch my house in HD. Any intruders can now be easily identified with details of their face. The image is supper sharp and the colors are dead-on. Being a previous user, the set up was a snap. No instruction manual needed. The hardest part was running the cables to where I wanted to place the cameras. Everything else was so easy evan a first time novice could set it up with out help. Setting up internet viewing can be a bit tricky but Lorex has great tech support if you need them. The only things that I would improve on are: an 8 camera system instead 4, the option of higher FPS recording, 5 fps is a tad jerky, 15 fps would be great, cameras with built in IR motion sensors would also be a plus. Of corse these things would add to the cost considerably.

All in all, I am extreamly satisfied with this product.

Lorex 4 Camera HD security system

Pros: 1080p, 100ft cables, hdmi output, tech support

Cons: could use more than 4 camera's but made do.

I bought and installed the Lorex LHD1042001C4 system and would highly(!!!) recommend anyone looking for a survelliance system, to just buy this Lorex system. Don't count your pennies here, this system is WELL worth the little extra money you may need to spend, given the quality of picture (1080p) and technical support. Excellent technical support, can't praise them highly enough!! I absolutely recommend this system period. No major issues. Tech support took control over the internet and in about 20minutes, had the system up on my local net AND had remote viewing on my smart phone working AOK!

To give you a little background. About 4 months ago I purchased a competitor's 8 camera system(no names, but they were based in Australia - that I found out AFTER I purchased the system). I had nothing but problems with this competitors system, the HDMI output didn't work and when I called their tech support, it was the typical 'follow a script' tech support. I'm a technical person and was very frustrated with the level of support AND the lack of call back. I finally had to email them to get response, 1 week after my initial issue was found. This competitor's Support wanted to call me back on Sunday night(Monday in Australia) up to midnight my time. Heck, I work for a living...bottom line, the system was bad and I returned it for a refund.

Having gone thru that bad experience with the 'competitor', I put aside the effort to get a survelliance system because I didn't want to go thru that again. BUT...After some research I saw that Lorex was based in Toronto. I'm in New Hampshire and if Tech Support was in Toronto, no more 'Australia' contact problems! So I did a little more research and found the new HD1080p Lorex system and it was available through Costco! This system was great, HDMI output and 1080p picture!! I bought it via Costco, @3days later I had it in my little hands. I tested it on the table to make sure all was working and even put an active splitter(ViewHD 2 Port HDMI 1x2 Powered Splitter Ver 1.3) on the DVR's HDMI output and display on a local monitor and on a 25foot HDMI cable to a large flat screen TV. When I knew all was working, I snaked the cables and installed the system permanently. Works perfectly now for @2+ weeks. I really needed 6 camera's, but made do with the four(4) this system has. I'm hoping an upgrade will be available from Lorex in the future...I'm keeping my eyes open for it.

Bottom line, my experience with this Lorex LHD100 Series system has been a PLEASURE. The Tech Support folks are VERY competent and a pleasure to deal with! Not the 'follow a script' type support at all, rather a person that wants to know how they can help. The picture quality is clear and top notch and night vision works perfectly! If you're thinking of this Lorex system and it can fit your needs, just buy it. You will be very happy, I certainly am!!!

"Being in the broadcast industry for many years, I wanted a system for home that was intuitive and had great images. Before I hung the cameras, I hooked the entire system up and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the cameras in daylight and complete darkness. The HD quality cameras turned a beautiful image. The sharpness and color were much better than expected. I was impressed with the way the cameras could switch quickly with different light levels. It was actually quite fun to observe this. I was happy with the low noise level of the DVR and how everything stayed at a cool temperature. The system was recording before I knew it and it was whisper quiet.

I thought the interface on the DVR was very straightforward and easy to control. My internet installation was a bit slow, but I chalk this up to my internet provider’s router.

I bought this system to monitor my home while I was away and I am pleasantly surprised with the product. My only complaint was a new video cable arrived slightly frayed on one end. The cable worked, but could have be an issue over time. I offered this feedback to Lorex and they immediately sent a replacement.

I could have bought any system out there. I thought this one was at a fair price for the quality it delivers. Now I just have to choose between watching the late news or monitoring the cameras for wildlife jumping over the backyard fence. Great product."
