Ordered the system online and received it in two days. Opened the box and they had upgraded the Dvr and system for free to more advanced and capable one with double the hard drive space and 720p. That was a pleasant surprise. Customer service could use some work though. Have one doa camera and 3 days later, Customer service not answering or passing me around? Will try on Monday. Overall you can't beat what you get for the money and would recommend to anyone.

Thank you for your feedback. We will be in contact with you shortly regarding your camera.

Straight forward to install. Excellent quality video.
The only thing I would recommend is to download the full manual from the site, so you can take full advantage of all the features.

Ordered the system online and received it in two days. Opened the box and they had upgraded the Dvr for free to more advanced and capable one with double the hard drive space. That was a pleasant surprise. Took it all out and tested all the pieces and everything worked the first time. Setup for all the cameras was easy and the remote view on tablet was a breeze. So far very happy with the system. Need to finish the instal bit so far so good.

Bought this for my first home monitoring system and am fairly impressed. It does everything it says it will. Good value. Easy to install....if you dont mind getting diry crawling thru attic and crawl spaces. Wireless actually more difficult to install for an amateur like myself. You still need a power source so make sure you could access an outlet. Cameras seem to work well....nice, crisp and clear. Zoom a little too powerful and range of view not enough for door or entrance monitoring unless you are mounting the camera far away. DVR is small yet powerful. No bigger than a notepad. TV resolution doesnt match DVR output. Need to use widescreen mode to use touchscreen properly. Stretches out picture and makes resolution poor. Switching to 4:3 mode creates a better picture but you get the ugly side bars and touch screen is off.

Finally, the most frustrating thing with this DVR is the remote viewing via an Android device. I have yet to get it to work. Have only gotten it to "connnect" 3 times but no picture (bitrate, 0fps). Consistently getting ERROR DISCONNECT message. Remote viewing works great on Apple products and PCs.

Would still recommend.

Great Wathdog

"We have numerous Lorex cameras installed around our home. Love the touch screen.

Its easy to use, and the quality of the images is very good. I can watch my grandchildren in the back yard and see who is at my front door at the same time. The best investment we have purchased in a long time. I would recommend to anyone.

Some good some bad.

"I have had the Lorex 8 camera dvr with seperate monitor system for a few months now. The system works really well exept when monitoring cameras from a remote location. The software's not very user friendly. It's to difficult to navigate and view footage from remote locations. This is the second system I've owned and preferred the desktop software that Lorex uses to archive and view dvr footage. The new system uses only a web page to log in and then the customer has limited controls for viewing and backup. I would give it a 5 star rating if there was desktop software available for remote viewing."

"I finally found a system which is compatible with my Mac equipment and also fairly easy to install. LOREX 8CH EDGE DVR with 21.5-inch LCD TOUCH MONITOR

"Cameras are too week. During the day the picture quality is so so. During the night it is a guess work.

The DVR has many good functionalities. Local and internet access is very good. Motion detection sometimes produces corrupted pictures. Currently the DVR, for Internet access, does not work with Motorola Atrix. Lorex support is very good but the wait time is too long.

Reliable, Reliable, Reliable.

"Purchased this unit to replace a 4-camera Lorex system to get better coverage and picture resolution. When unit arrived the DVR malfunctioned and was replaced by Lorex after two days working by phone with tech support (used phone because first email was unanswered for a week).

In 11 months of full-time use, there have been no problems with the cameras or the DVR. Resolution is very good both day and night. Set-up was simple, but the back of the DVR is so crowded that it's very difficult to manage the eight BNC connections. That's the price you have to pay for such a compact unit.

Fairly easy to backup the DVR (copy video segments) with a USB memory device, but the format is .MOV which I have to convert to .WAV or .AVI.

Cannot comment on touch screen, internet connectivity, or remote operation. I operate it only with the mouse because I don't feel the need to use the touch screen o the remote control.

For me, the strongest feature is the reliability of the unit. It replaced another Lorex product which was also 100% dependable. I would give this product a very positive recommendation based on reliability alone, but I am also pleased with all of the other features which I use."

clunky menus, needs refining but good system...

"Pro's: Full 30fps all channels, smart phone viewing, adjustable motion sensing and many other great features.

Cons: No control discription when you hover over a button, thats would be very helpful as sometimes dont know what a button does until you click it. No full screen mode on internet viewing. Also, recording look-up is very cumbersome and definitally needs to be streamlined.

This is the best system I could find, and with a little tweeking , nothing else would come close.

"The 8 cameras work great and were easy to install by my son and I in an afternoon. Everything worked well automatically except the web support is terrible if you use a Mac. There was a lot of PC support but I am still working with the company website to try to get my Mac to monitor the system after trying for two weeks."

its very convinient to use

"I purchased two different Lorex security camera systems for two of my offices. I liked this system because I can see the office through my Iphone day and night. One night right after Valentines'day I got a call from security alarm company saying the security alarm was triggered. If they should call the Police. I was able to see through my I phone that office. It turns out the alarm system went off triggered by the balloons the girls received from their valentines....."

Good so far, but..

"Good so far, but definitely not an easy project. if you can not hook up your tv or vcr or stereo or computer and do the basic set up on them, you will have some problems. not hard but you need to be a little tech friendly to get this going. directions are ok, not great. have not called tech support yet but need to, to figure out how to (port forward modem/router) to view over internet. can view on my computer over local network connection, but not yet from log in from another computer off site. for the price it seems pretty good. have only had for 1 month so can not comment yet on durability."

Cons: plan on an all weekend install or 2...

Worked Right Out Of The Box - Great Product

Model Number: Lorex 8 Channel EDGE

"I had never purchased or used a security system before, so I was concerned about how complex they might be to install and setup. I took the Lorex out of the box and plugged in all the connectors, and IT WORKED. I played with the system for a few days learning how to set it up for motion only recording, and all the other options. The operating system is surprisingly simple and easy to understand. I installed the system and had no issues other than figuring how to run the wires in some tight places. It's been running now for 30 days with no problems."

Edge 300 series with full Mac compatibility

"I was originally interested in Lorex systems because they are the only company that makes a Mac compatible DVR. It is truly Mac friendly and works wonderfully, with local access and remote access using Safari. But also as a general surveillance system, I can't imagine it working more smoothly.

Pros:

Fully Mac compatible.

Even as a non-tech person, the set up was relatively easy.

The night-time resolution of the daytime/night time camera is excellent, wired and wireless.

iPhone app works perfectly as long as you are WiFi connected. (understandably the 3G speed is too slow to allow real viewing)

Customer service is excellent and the higher executives really care about their products and customer satisfaction. Personal follow up was a pleasant surprise!

Cons:

Tech support is either excellent or incompetent depending on who answers the phone

The cameras work really well, but if your goal is their lack of visibility, there are certain situations where this is impossible, especially at night with the IR light. The solution can be found elsewhere, but it would be great if Lorex provided more camera style choices."

Excelent price and quality

"Researched various DVR's and found the Lorex Link to have all necessary features for surveillance and monitoring that others did not offer.

Price was extremely competitive compared to other brands offering the same or less in quality and/ or features.

Cameras however are low resolution, but for certain conditions, do the job excellently. For more detailed display, higher resolution cameras can be purchased separately.

I highly recommend this product."

Great remote video viewed on any device!

"I purchased this product specifically because I was looking for a means to monitor my home on my BlackBerry 8320 Curve. This product meets my needs and more. For starters, the set-up was easy and straight-forward. No trouble at all. After testing my setup, I registered with the free Lorex DDNS service and found remote viewing and control to be easy and effortless. Whether using my laptop, desktop or BlackBerry, the system is a breeze to monitor and control. The included client software makes the remote setup very easy. Since the DVR is a server, for those of you who are network geeks out there, you can access it directly through a firewall with no client software needed if you know how to set it up.....yes, all the info is in the manual.

This system is an upgrade for me. My old security cameras were X10-based and used separate motion sensors. With the Lorex, the motion detection is built into each camera. Genius! The video quality is very, very good and works day (color) and night (B&W with infra-red LEDs in each cam). The setup also has 8 external alarm inputs so that you can wire up a door or window contact to elicit an email message upon triggering. Emails can be sent to as many as 5 addresses.

I highly recommend this product.

Good buy!

"I purchased the LH 400 Link Series a couple month ago. I found the instalation to be straight forward and simple. The set up of the DVR for the network and IPhone was a little more challenging. The instructions that Lorex supplied was extreamly helpful in my sucessful setup. Great product! I expect this product to last many years to help protect my house."
