Purchased this system July 2015 to replace older system that did not have remote viewing capability. The installation was fairly simple and we were able to adapt existing cameras plus the new cameras. The quality of the DVR, monitor and cameras is great and we are very pleased with ability to view remotely.

Got this system last year. Ran the wires and installed myself. Connecting everything together is pretty easy. Setting the zoom and focus of each camera can take some tweaking to get it right, but it's not overly difficult. Basic setup takes no time at all. If you want more advanced features, you may have to read into it a bit. I set mine to only record for motion but since some of the cameras face outdoors, it can often start recording for even the slightest movement of nature. You can set the areas to monitor which is really neat.

Using the smartphone app might be the easiest thing to setup. All you need to do, is to scan the QR code on top of the DVR with your smartphone and it connects automatically, whether over your local network or mobile network. You can enter the info manually if your device doesn't have a camera.

I really only have 1 issue and it's not really with the system itself. If you want to view the cameras through a browser over the internet using DDNS, the browser takes a plugin to install. Sadly the only options are for a Safari plugin and a plugin for IE. No Chrome or Firefox, which is a downer. This needs attention. Chrome and Firefox are way more functional and have enough marketshare (maybe more than IE) to deserve a plugin.

Two more minor issues, is I wish the PC/MAC software was more customizable. These cameras can't use the PTZ functions so I wish you could get rid of those controls on the right and use more of the screen real estate for the camera views.
Second thing is also with the software. I get the feeling it's not being developed for anymore. Every time I open the application, I get prompted by the Windows UAC to make changes. This makes me think this software was created for Windows XP but was ported over for Vista/7/8. It's not that hard to correct this. Microsoft even makes a tool to convert older apps. I did it myself to get rid of the UAC but it's just annoying I had to go through those means.

Other than that, I really enjoy this product.

I bought this system and hook up myself. hook it up was the easy part, get the system to work with remote access was horrible. I continued call in sometime 3 times a day for 4 days straight. A few tech support was not professional. The problem I am running to are, the app down load not able to see it remotely. First they said it was my internet speed, but not the problem. Then they said the cable provider not have the 80 and 9000 port open. Called my cable company they walked and explain me that everything open and very kind help me see what they are talking about the port and help me set up, bu they told me I have to request Lorex Tech to create IP domain login. Call back Lorex Tech and told them that then tech support said that because my cellphone provider was Tmobile that is why. Finely got the IP Domain created on my cellphone working then the next day not working. Called back lorex Tech and they think my home power line sometime not enough volt cause the IP Domain not working on cellphone. it continuing happen every day now. So to stop all my helpless time with Lorex Tech, I decide to put a timer on my out put power to DVR, so now working normal but my timer will shut down one hour every day in order to have my DVR working and see remotely. I think DVR is the problem....

After an attempted break in to our home, and later an attempted car hi jacking in our own driveway I installed a cheap security camera system that was simply not any good, I researched and purchased my Lorex camera, dvd and monitor system. It was very easy to set up and install. The cameras are a cinch to aim and connect. The internet connection could not be easier. We now are much safer in our own home being able to "see" around our complete home both day and night. Speaking of night, wow, the infrared feature is superb, it almost turns night into day. Buy from Lorex you will not be disappointed.

Purchased this system in June of 2014. It was easy to setup. Really good product for the money. The cameras are high quality and the picture is clear. Night vision works well. Had a problem with one of the cameras. I called customer service and submitted an exchange request. Received the new camera in a couple of days, returned the broken one. Very easy and hassle free process to to do an exchange. Customer service is very helpful. Would definitely recommend this system and this company.

With break-ins increasing area wide, we decided a camera system would make us feel more secure. We didn't even attempt to try a DIY installation because we live in a rebar reinforced concrete house and didn't know how to begin. Took a pro with an assistant 2 days of drilling and feeding wires but now that system is in we feel much more secure. Can check the house before entering to be sure no one is lurking about. Ability to check condition of house from phone or iPad or computer when away also important. Probably will add one more camera to cover a blind area. Pro who installed impressed with system. Alarm company also praised Lorex.
Customer service/sales associate was very helpful.
Night vision a little weak is only concern.

I think this is a great product for the money spent.

It was relatively easy to install and understand.

Picture quality from cameras was better than expected.

DVR has lots of cool features. such as only recording video when motion is sensed by cameras. which saves a lot of space on DVR hard drive.

I have been impressed with this system. It came with everything I needed to install it. I don't really use it for security as much as an easy way to see who is at the door or when visitors arrive (in my house you can't see the driveway or front porch from the living areas). There are several things to know before buying it.

1. you have to run wires from the DVR to each camera. Make sure you have a way to get them from one location to another (attic, basement, etc). This was the most challenging part of installing it.

2. It takes a while to find the right adjustment for motion detection/recording. I had a hard time finding a balance where it didn't record constantly, but would record when someone walked by. Read the manual...

3. It takes some knowledge to get it set up to allow you to access it via the internet. If you google "port forwarding" and don't undersand anything you read, then get a geek friend to help.

4. I saw lots of frustration on the message boards about getting it to work with smart phones. Many people get an invalid login message. You have to go to the settings on your DVR and set up both a regular login (which works from the DVR and from your laptop) and a separate login for your smartphone. I don't think they ever figured out to do the second part. Again, read the manual.

5. The picture is not really high def. It is what you would expect when you put 4 pictures on a 13inch screen. I have no complaints about the picture quality. If you want really high resolution/detail you will need to spend lots more money.

6. The night vision is pretty cool. It is not perfect, but you can see well.

If I think of more I'll update later. In general this is a good basic system that is reasonably easy to install and set up if you are good with both computers and home repair/maintenance.

Installation costs more ,If you get a professional to do it

This is an initial review of this Lorex monitoring product, which I expect to expand on in the future. The system itself has arrived, and reflects a high level of quality from my initial look over. The monitor is large and color, and the cameras can see at night and day, and are large enough to be a deterrent themselves, but small enough as to not be obnoxious. The DVR is sleek and unobtrusive, and 60' of cable for each camera is given.

Yet here is the initial issue that a buyer needs to consider; this is NOT a wireless system, and installation does not come with it (it comes with a special installation card which initially gives the impression that perhaps it is part of the package... it is not, and a clearer reading identifies this fact. The card comes from their preferred installer). Upon calling the recommended installer, I learned that professional installation costs MINIMUM $100 to $200 per camera, and it is more if you don't want to have dangling wires showing or if the cable will run more than 60' or if the mounting surface is unusual. So in my case, that would mean that this $700 system would cost an additional $700 - $900 to install professionally.

So unless you are personally handy with running cable through walls, or you have a drop ceiling with easy access for your use of this, you should seriously consider a wireless system.

Camera Quality pretty good for the price
This video surveillance system comes with 4 security cameras which can be mounted both indoors and outdoors. The setup was easy, but a I've run into a few minor issues with the networking solutions. The system claims to offer an easy setup for putting your camera feeds online to view on your mobile phone or tablet over the internet. So far, I've followed the step by step process and still not able to do so. Of course, I'll continue trying, but it's worth mentioning.

Pros:
- Good quality color picture with zooming capability and even night vision.
- Records your camera feeds in a nice sized DVR.
- Provides the capability to expand your picture onto multiple TV's and online as well.

Cons:
- The actual cords that are provided with each camera are only 60 ft. long, so if you have a fairly large house, you'll have to shell out an additional $40 to $50 to buy some extension cables online to connect everything back to the main DVR hub.
- The online networking capability has been difficult to step, even though I've followed their step by step setup instructions to a T.

That being said, I did some research, and their product is VERY reasonably priced for what they're offering. I'd recommend it.

Easy to set up and get started quickly

We got this system in order to be able to watch places in our home that we can't normally see from the main floor: the chicken coop was probably the biggest motivator. We are sick of losing hens to some night-time predator and not knowing what it was or how it managed to get in. We also set-up one camera in the basement where my kids play and watch TV, and a couple different places outside the house that aren't easily seen from windows.

Initial set-up was a breeze: We got the system running and were able to get the view from the various cameras in under half an hour. The bigger job is getting the cameras installed where you want them. The product comes with a great length of lightweight cable for each camera and the cameras themselves are lightweight, but just the logistics of figuring out where you want to run the cable and secure the cameras will take some time.

Our favorite feature is the night-vision. It kicks in automatically as needed and allows us to record a night of activity at the chicken coop and play it back in the morning if we need to (in other words if we find we're missing chickens in the morning).

One aspect of the ease of set-up that's often overlooked is that the default settings are quite reasonable and we didn't need to change anything to get started. The most important thing once it's running is to set the date and time. Bad marks on the date-setting user interface which is quite awkward. The other settings that we've used so far are much more straight-forward.

This product has many features that we just don't need, so I can't offer an opinion on those.

This product is a full security system including a monitor, four cameras and a DVR with the capability of handling up to 8 cameras. Also included are cabling for the cameras. While manuals are provided for setup, professional installation may be required. The software itself is not too difficult to use and is highly configurable. The cameras function well and operate in both day and night conditions. The DVR can be configured for remote access from a browser or mobile device and (positive) can be manually configured to avoid conflicts with other devices or servers on the network.

Overall, I liked this system a lot. I didn't have any problems getting it set up and using it. The interface is straightforward and the manuals do a good job of explaining how the many features work.

Powerful but intuitive. Control-freak's dream!

PROs

+ Build quality seems excellent

+ Feature set is powerful and extremely flexible

+ Cameras work great, even in complete darkness

+ DVR features are easy to use and intuitive

+ Included monitor is small & very thin and perfect for surveillance

+ Low power consumption

+ Mobile access let you view cameras on your smart phone from anywhere in the world.

+ Web access let you view your cameras, configure your system, and view recordings from anywhere in the world.

+ Ability to receive e-mail alerts for configured alarm conditions.

CONs

- Depending on your ability and house, may require a professional installer.

- Cameras have a relatively narrow field of view (50 degrees)

- July 2011 firmware update installation completely erased all of my configuration and settings

INSTALLATION

I performed the installation of this product in my two-story house. I used BNC to Type-F adapters and connected to the cameras through the cable lines in my house's walls. I think that is what most professional installations will do. My house was built with RG6 coax cable runs to the front door and other areas of importance and I used those cables to send the camera signals back to my DVR. If you do not have such coax cabling already in your walls, you may need a professional installer. This is especially true if you do not have a one-story house with ready access to your attic.
