The MPX 1080p system is better than I expected. I had seen several other systems in stores and at friend's homes, but this one surpasses all of them. The clarity is beyond belief - day or night. The fact you can zoom in on a video (either recorded or in real time) really shows it power. Spending just a bit more is well worth the difference and I would not hesitate to purchase again. I highly recommend this to anyone who is serious about capturing video for protection of their property. Thank you Lorex - and Flir for offering this system at an affordable price!

I have just installed this system, using my pre-existing RG-6 video cables, and separate video power cables which I installed when I built the house. The system works very well, and the cameras have excellent resolution. I was surprised at the clarity of the camera image. The night vision is also excellent, with a useful range of maybe 50-75 feet, and still a decent image beyond that to maybe 120. The DVR, and the software interface is pretty good, but it would be helpful to have the various fields to have hover over help information, so that I don't have to look everything up in the manual.

The one knock on this system is the web based interface, which requires an installation of a browser plugin (which is available only for Windows). At this day and age, all modern browsers support HTML5 and the web based interface should be using the video support inherent in the browser. This would allow non-Windows and non-IE Explorer users to actually use the system remotely. Also the UI on the web based interface is pretty clunky, when I have used it on a Windows system.

The alternative is to use the mobile phone application which on Android is pretty good in terms of functionality.

With the advent of IoT it would be very useful to have a RESTful developer API for the Lorex systems, in order to integrate these systems into Home Automation products like SmartThings, Vera, Wink etc. I am in the software business and a Home Automation tinkerer, and I would be happy to help Lorex with implementing/testing such a solution.

So far so good. I've only had my system up and running for about a month now. Since this is my first system, I have nothing else to compare too. I like the interface and FLir Cloud option too. I had several technical support questions and 1 of those was an actual call into the tech support line. The online tech support option ( where you submit a ticket ) was almost addressed immediately and I had my answers within a few short minutes. Overall I give my experience with the unit and tech support 5 stars.

I chose the Lorex MPX to replace an existing 5 year old Lorex Edge analog system. The Lorex MPX84W package I purchased provided 4 1080P analog cameras with an 8 channel dvr and I was able to use 4 additional analog cameras already in my setup. Some of my existing cameras were wired, some were wireless. Setup was simple and I was connected and online with the dvr very little time. The 1080 cameras are clear and a welcome improvement to my older cameras. The Flir client works well on my home computer and the Flir app works well on my Iphone and Ipad. I have purchased several Lorex products over the past 5 years and have never had any problems with their operation, other than app update concerns a few years ago. I give Lorex 5 stars for this product.

I bought this system to replace an older analog system. I was looking for a system that would reuse the coax cable that was already installed at my house but wanted an increase in the resolution. The 1080P cameras are much clearer than the old cameras and I can see much more detail in the image. The night vision is also very good. The Lorex Flir app for my iPhone is fantastic and allows realtime viewing of image with sound as well as playback of recorded video.

Awesome security system....was easy to setup...easy to use....the daylight pictures are great...very clear perfect!! The night vision is wonderful as well nice and clear...don't be afraid to purchase this system it is fantastic. I compared other security systems before purchasing and I know I have made the right decision. I am giving my review a 5 star but I would have given it a 10 if I could have.

HD quality is superb. Installation is easy. iPhone live viewing is a breeze- download app, sign up, scan QR Code, enter user name and password, hit connect and you are ready to enjoy live view! Just make sure to record the password because forgetting it will require a tech support call to connect for live view with other devices. So far happy with the system. I purchased the 8 channel with 4 cameras and I am glad I did. It allows me to expand the system to cover more areas. I would definitely recommend this system to anyone looking for HD1080p quality at a reasonable price.

I am completely satisfied with my purchase of the MPX84W system . It is all that is advertised. It was a snap to install and get connected. Planning on adding four more cameras. NOTE: Be careful when installing the cables, the power connectors look a lot alike and must be installed in the proper order.

i looked around for a good camera system and found that the lorex system had everything i was looking for. I am not that tec. savy so am greatfull that my stepson is as he is the one that helped hook everything up and did all the connections and got the system up and running. he also connected it up to the flir cloud. the system seems to be working just as advertised good clear pictures and video, the only problem i am having is there are power waves across the video's , son said it is because the power cord and video cord are put together into one wire and the power cord is interfering with the video feed, but is not that big of deal , video is still pretty clear.

Excellent system and a great bang for the buck. The four cameras picture is very clear and the color/contrast is outstanding. Also, the online viewing software works very well and is professionally created. Would be great for a business or home. A couple of small issues I discovered when adding additional cameras. I believe the system is of the CVI variety. I purchased a couple of TVI cameras and they will produce a picture but not color or very well defined. Perhaps other vendor's CVI would work perfectly, but rather than take a chance I have purchased them direct from Lorex and will return the TVI type cameras. I had searched for the type of system (SDI, CVI, TVI) and the only place I finally found a mention was in the 2 Lorex Dome camera spec sheets I purchased which stated HD-CVI. Also, the fan is slightly loud. I've gotten use to it and once I find a hidden spot for the DVR it may not be an issue. Currently it is sitting on my desk (too loud). If Lorex could use a quieter fan it would be an awesome system. No other issues to mention, so if your sitting on the fence to purchase, and can deal with the somewhat proprietary cameras and little bit of noise, buy it without hesitation. There is no better system for the price.

Camera pictures look great. Getting all the equipment in sync over WiFi was a bit of a problem, instructions were not very helpful. Would think with todays technology, windows phones would also be on the smartphone compatibility list.

Quite the bang for the buck. The DVR works great with a couple of little quirks like the log in menu popping up for seemingly no reason. Unlike some other reviewers I have found Lorex support both pre and post to be very good and responsive. I have tried other brands and always come back to Lorex.

DVR is ok so far. During the day the cameras are great. At night one of them provides a dark picture. That camera is installed in a garage attic, pointing thru a window. Perhaps the window is interfering with the night vision. Customer support is horrible. Numerous calls, no answer. Left my telephone number because of "heavier call volume" it's been two months with no return call. Products good, customer support NOT.

Great product for a simple home security system with the potential to expand. Hardest part was routing my wiring through the house, but once I turned the system on, it too care of itself! The cameras are a little grainy, but since they are not HD that was totally what I expected from them. The night vision is good, but I would definitely suggest being able to have something for the infrared to bounce/reflect on or having a motion sensitive light in the area to ensure adequate viewing at night. Very happy with the product and quality for the price!!

Product worked out of the box. Had some installation issues over weekend but Lorex support not available outside M-F. One cable is flaky and sent several notes to support with no response about replacement or return. Cameras were easy to install though time consuming. All the cameras worked great out of the box. There was plenty of cable for 1200 sq ft house and cameras at every corner. We do have a crawl space so that helps.

The price was great, the delivery was very fast and the tech support was excellent. The products are very good products and very easy to install. my only complaint would be to have an abridged version of the users manual included in the box. The on line version is very good and easy to search, but I am old school and would like to hold a piece of paper in my hand while I complete the install. I would be willing to pay extra for the paper version !!

Would like to see a " stick in the ground" sign that is available for purchase also. I would be willing to pay extra for that also.

I'm not a handy type guy and a senior citizen, however the Lorex system I purchased was a piece of cake to install. I selected the hard wired type cameras and hard drive type DVR. These products are proven as reliable and long lasting. This is my first involvement with a video system and thank God the Lorex documentation was simple and easy to follow. I have one additional step to complete and that is to install an Ethernet cable through my attic ( 50 feet ) to allow internet access but I'll hire someone for that task. As a novice I would recommend this system to anyone considering a security network. The price is reasonable , the quality excellent and the instructions doable for even a first timer. The picture quality is first class and night vision is solid. While the system was in shipping I contacted the Customer Service ( via email ) to ask a technical question about the Ethernet, they answered my mail within 24 hours and were very helpful. I will use there call in line if I have any issues setting up the internet package. Bottom line, great product, great support

This is our third Lorex system.
The first system was all-in-one (camer's attached to DVR). The camera's had audio so not only could we have a visual but also an audio. The playback speed was 64X (fast). We loved the unit. Over they years the unit was unable to support the camers and DVR. Instead of contacting Lorex for a new unit we purchased an ECO unit a at a local appliance store. We were disappointed. There was no audio with the video and the playback speed was 32X (very slow). There was no way to speed it up so the playback was useless unless we wanted to watch it frame-by-fram. Purchaing the ECO system at the local store cost more than $400 extra. If we purchased ECO system directly from Lorex we would have had a bargain.
We didn't like the ECO so we purchased an Edge for a great price. 8 cameras and easy to use DVR. We only had difficulty teathering the Edge to my phone but the technician spent a lot time time resolving the problem. What needed to be done - erase all traces of the former camersDVR/DDNS entries from my computers and also from the online Lorex account. Start with a virgin slate. I found out that the DDNS entry was DVR system specific. I had to obtain a NEW DDNS entry for my new Edge system.
The Lorex technologist helped me tether the system to my cell phone.
I would like to thank Lorex for having one of the finest products. The Lorex system is reliable and has "ease of use". The technologists are hands down THE BEST.
My suggestions - purchase your camera system directly from LOREX. Make sure your playback speed is 64X.
I was recently diagnosed with cancer and taking chemotherapy. I live alone and get weak and sick. My family added camera's to the inside of my home to watch me when I a alone to make sure I am OK.
Our family would like to thank Lorex for a fine camera system and the technical support that comes with it.

So far the tech service as been oustanding, helping me to set up the remote viewing.
The price was very good since we purchased an open box system at 50%off.
Our only problem was a faulty power supplie for the camera which LOREX replaced promptly thrue the warranty. Now only time will tell if this system is reliable.

I purchased the Lorex LHU314501-4PK after reading an online review of several products. The actual price of the system was lower than that quoted in the review and the product had been upgraded with a later DVR than the one evaluated in the review.

I have been extremely satisfied with the equipment. Setup was easy and the equipment functions better than I expected. The camera resolution is outstanding and the night vision is as well. I inadvertently switched the output of camera 6 for camera 3 (I only have 4 cameras) and didn't understand what happened at first, but a quick re-reading of the manual showed me how to easily correct the problem. Other than that, installation and operation have been easy and flawless. I am most definitely willing to recommend the product to others.

Was so lucky to get a free upgrade to the Lorexedge2 DVR with 1000gb hard drive and 8 channels. I really do enjoy my system and it gives me a piece of comfort. night vision is good, and i can cover my front and back yard easily.
the motion detectors are useless, it picks up everything you dont want it to pick up. shades from trees, changed in sunlights from overpassind clouds, far away distand light at night time, so i pretty much gave up on that area and just had the system to record 24/7.
userface is still a bit old fashioned, and viewing through clips are dificult, unless you have lots of time on your hand.
overall a good product for the price

Tech support was very helpful when needed. Looking forward to completing the project and watching someone stealing my fuel instead of hearing about it!

The cameras ,monitor, cables picture quality work very well but trying to remote the system has been a disappointment. I have over a weeks work and I have not got there yet, I have contacted Lorex support still waiting.

This is my first security camera purchase, so i really dont have much to compare with, but based on my expectations.
it is a okay product, and i deserves 3 solid stars but not more than that. Picture quality is not as crisp and clear as i would expect from a professional system.
Motion detecting is difficult to adjust. to high and it picks up shadows on the ground, to low and it wont pick up a human moving across the ground. any light from cars even towards non motion activated cells will result in motion being detected.
User interface seems kind of old. Lorex could be kind enough to provide what year the system was build, just to give you a better expectations. since i bought this system in 2013 i was expecting 2013 technology.
Cameras has good colors, and does a good job recording. playing recorded clips are easy.
be aware that screen shots are only reserved for 8 channel systems and up, i didnt know that until i had the system in my hands.
overall good product for the price i´ll say

Too soon to tell about quality. However, shipping and warranty coverage were terrific. Price at this site also was competitive.

This is the second time I bought this Security dvr with 4 outdoor surveillance cameras with night vision. Is easy to use, better than the one got from other brand. Is very easy to set it up yourself. Sales agent are really helpful. I even called the tech support for trouble shoot the setup issue the first time, they are GREAT. I can even check my stores using my smart phone. For the price I pay for the service I got. This is a good deal to have.

I did quite a bit of research on the internet before buying this system for my home exterior. I knew very little about security systems but quickly learnt that Lorex, Swann, Q-See etc were the common ones and Lorex was amongst the good brands. I purchased this set after reading the positive reviews here as well as comparing the specs with other offerings from Lorex as well as other brands. For the price, the cameras and DVR on this system offer the best performance. 660 TVL cameras, mechanical IR cut filters, 1 TB drive on the DVR etc. I also noticed that the 78 degree field of view was amongst the widest offered and I really wanted so that I could cover the entire exterior of my house with the least number of cameras. I have had it running for about a week and am very pleased with the quality. The camera quality is quite good when viewing video on my 60" camera. I also like the motion detection feature though I need to calibrate it correctly since swaying trees in my backyard seem to trip it off. Overall, a great system that I highly recommend, esp given the price.

Great Product / Easily installed.

"I never installed a camera system before but I consider myself to be very handy... I got all the camera's mounted, wires run and the DVR hooked up in under 8 hours. The hardest part of the install was porting my router to allow me to sign onto and view my system from anywhere in the world. I have FIOS and their router info was not included in the instructions. I did find out how to port it on the internet and got that part of the set-up done in about 90 minutes. The video quality is excellent during the day. Night vision is good, not great but for the price and can't imagine that you could find a better system out there. I love keeping an eye on my home from my office 40 miles away... Long story short - great system and simple to hook up."

Exceptional Support

"I had to work through several issues on my end associated with my wireless connection to the Lorex. Because of my somewhat unique setup Customer Support recognized and acknowledged they needed to escalate my issue. The Product Manager immediately got in touch with me and aggressively advocated until we got things right. This was one of those rare experiences where support is there throughout the organization. The system works great and I am very happy!"

worth the time setting it up

"I was having extreme difficulty getting the system to work remote. I cannot say that the Tech Support call line was much help HOWEVER I will say the VP of Product Management takes full ownership of his product. He spent about 3 hours talk time trying to figure out the problem I was having. Turned out it was not Lorex but Verizon my internet carrier. They have Port 80 blocked for residual use and only available under business. He worked with me in getting my router port forwarded outside Port 80 to anthoer set of ports that made system work like a charm."

"Love the system, the cameras are great, internet access is pretty reliable, but just can't seem to get the TV to monitor the DVR. I believe it not working because the output resolution of the DVR only supports the old 4:3 TV’s not the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Hopefully they will add that resolution to the next firmware update."

Ease of installation and free support

"Found the instructions for installing the cameras excellent. Had abit of difficulty with understanding and adapting the system for my particular needs. Once I got all the bugs ironed out thanks to the excellent tech support you have.

Yes there are certain limitations, but one has to take these into account, such as interference from weather especi ally at nite. However, have learned to make allowances and feel this security is doing an excellent job!

Degree of range of cameras

"The only problem is the product description doesn't say the degree of range each camera covers. Only when you open the package, then you see the degree of range on the Quick Start Guide. It would've been helpful to see this info under the product description before I made the purchase. The degree of range is 50 degrees which was not enough coverage. But the system was very easy to install. I didn't do the computer setup."

decent product

"This is a great package for small home, because it has the latest compression technology H.264 and record at 640x480. The cameras adjust brightness based on outside light and can cause false motion alarm. I have find out setting recording at max 15 FPS for all settings may have helped some.

The cameras may be the bottleneck for the picture quality, don't expect to make out license plates etc. But I absolutely love the cameras changes to B/W mode at night and the visibility decent in small areas in low light levels.

I discarded the included cable as they are very thin and too long, degrading video quality. I ran my own RG59 siamese cables.

Overall the system is stable thanks to Linux OS, there are some glitches, it's not too bad. The internet server works too, it requires quicktime on the remote computer. One bug I noticed is remote "backup" of video does not give correct footage of the time I requested. Hopefully the manufacturer will fix this.

Be aware the writing to USB drive for backup is slow so don't expect to write large clips conveniently. It seems to encode footage on the fly into quicktime .MOV file. The writing process is slower than real time, It does produce a good quality movie file.

There is a relay click when motion is detected, it may be an external output and I am hoping this can be disabled in future firmware upgrades, otherwise it is an extremely quiet product and does not run hot.

This DVR has easy to understand menus and fully comprehendable and organized English manual, this is rare in this type of product!"

Good Value

"The Edge is a good small surveilance system. It's quiet (no noisy fan) and has the basic features for surveilance. The motion sensor is difficult to calibrate. When it's changing from color to nightvision and vice-versa, the motion sensor picks it up as motion. Also, a cloud shadow will cause the sensor to think it's changing modes. Maybe the hot tip is to use B/W nightvision mode at all times and skip the color mode on the cameras."

Pros: quite. small package.

Cons: motion sensor is hard to calibrate.

Good DVR, sub-par cameras

"I was looking for a good DVR-based security camera system, and this seemed to fit the bill. When I set up the system, I was impressed by how well the DVR worked. It started up quickly and had easy-to-use software that seemed quite stable and polished. (The DVR is actually a small linux-based computer.) The problem I had was that the cameras that come with this kit were not very good. Even when set to use the maximum resolution (640x480), the images are a bit blurry and have severe distortion and chromatic aberration that make it difficult to see details clearly (like license plates or faces). Maybe with better cameras this would be something worth buying, but for now I would recommend buying the DVR separately from somewhere else and getting some good quality cameras.

An alternative is to use an old computer and some good-quality webcams (I recommend logitech pro 9000 webcams because they are auto-focus, have glass lenses, and send nearly-hd quality video (1280x960). And if you get some cheap security camera DVR software (I use blueiris) you can put together a far better system that is more flexible and costs less."
