Adding to my earlier review, I would like to suggest some things after using this product for a couple weeks.

It would be great if the 1080p cameras had a sensitivity setting like motion sensors do. This is due to the cameras are so high def it picks up the motion of birds jumping through the yard and I really don't care to waste time tape a bird or small chipmunk running in the yard. If I am missing something in the config, someone let me know!

I was looking into wireless set of cameras, but noticed that they are only max of 720p? This is stalling my purchase of another unit right now. If I have missed seeing those on the site, I hope someone can correct me on this. There are not a lot of wireless camera choices.

Another suggestion is the weather shield on the cameras needs to be slightly larger as it does not adjust out over the lens; only to the beginning of the lens, so very little protection there. I guess the only alternative would be PTZ dome cameras?

The FLIR app for viewing footage fails to connect to the camera or cameras a lot of times. I have to keep jumping out and back in to see the cameras from my smartphone.

It would be great if the DVR box would connect via wireless instead of an Ethernet cable. I agree with another users comment about when going into the main menu and having to retype the account password each time. You should also have a 'save' password and 'change' password or something there.

Other than that, I stand by being pleased with my purchase and this product. There are friends who have commented on how sharp the camera system is when they see it. It was EASY to set up.

Lastly, I was told I already got the extra year by submitting the first review for 2 years total warranty, but the website does not reflect only 1 year. It would be nice to keep it updated.

Thank you for your feedback!

This system was very easy to setup. These are wired cameras but come with plenty of cable 60' for each camera. The DVR has the ability to use PTZ cameras with it, so if you want to purchase a camera or two of those, it will work with it. The HD cameras are nice and clear, very colorful. Night vision is very clear. I have it set for MD (motion) but the bugs flying in front of the cameras at night make it record all night. DVR and camera connections easy to connect. I recommend buying the 4 to 1 power adapters though; otherwise you need to plug power in for 8 cameras plus the monitor and DVR. It was easy to setup on for internet (remote viewing), but you need a wired connection to the DVR. The flir app for remote connection does not require any port forwarding on your router and viewing of cameras and playback works well. Not sure if you can still use Lorex DDNS/port forward or if Flir app replaced that. So far so good...I am pleased with my purchase.

This is my first camera system and Lorex product. I have installed seven of the eight cameras, connected to the DVR and monitor and it was easy to do, following the Quick Connection Guide, Quick Mobile Guide, and Quick PC.MAC Guide. All of the cameras work extremely well and have very clear resolution. Very happy with my purchase.

I have several of these systems. Setup was easy and setting up the DVR took a little time the first time but after the initial learning it is easy to operate. We have these cameras around our house exterior and in our garages. Picture quality is excellent.

The cameras with this system have a good image quality and respond well to low light; the transition back from IR to visable light requires a little higher light level than should be. The interface on the dvr is a little clumsy, but works ok. I would also like to see a system like this with 2-way audio on all the cameras.

Overall a decent system at a good price, but with some improvement opportunities that could dramatically advance this dvr.

So I ordered this system with the 15% off sale, and received a great deal from the start. Then, instead of receiving the 720p DVR and 8 720p cameras, I instead received a 1080p DVR, 4 1080p cameras, and 4 720p cameras. The 1080p cameras only have a 70 degree field of vision compared to the 90 degree of the 720p cameras, but with higher resolution, I feel they make up for that. Also I received a standard AOC 24inch monitor instead of the lorex monitor, which I was perfectly OK with as the AOC monitor I received has VGA, and 2 (!) HDMI inputs. I had an older Lorex system before, so this system literally was plug and play with all of my existing BNC/power cables. I swapped the DVR (which did display and record my older low quality cameras), swapped out the cameras, and wow does it look amazing. My old system was next to impossible to get online, but with this system, I downloaded the iPhone app, scanned the QR code on the DVR, and within 15-20 seconds, I was looking at all my cameras. It literally could not have been easier. (Unless someone did it for me, I guess that would have been easier.) - Next I downloaded the FLIRCloud client for PC on my home computers, it found the DVR on my home network by itself. I clicked on it, inputted the 6 digit passcode (that I set up from the app on my phone on download) and again within 30 seconds was looking at all my video feeds. Also the quality is near perfect even over the live feed. (granted it is on a 100mbs home network, but still.) - The quality was lower, but still acceptable over the iPhone app. I could not be happier with the value, quality, and ease of use. I will continue being a Lorex customer.

Purchased system for resale- installed all 8 cameras with no problem- after install had great picture on all cameras- The DVR made a loud beeping sound every few minutes- also the DVR would go into shut down and then reboot. Called customer service made a few adjustment in menu. Was told by customer service that I would be receiving an email with instructions on how to return unit and it would be advance exchange. After 10 days no Email or unit. Called back to customer service and was told that someone would call in 3-5 days....no problem with equipment but customer service is SLOW.
After posting this a customer service representative- Jenny Guest she help me get a new unit and even was upgrade to a 16 channel. I haven't receive the unit yet but have a UPS tracking number. Thanks.....

Installed the cameras at a church. Unfortunately, only one location was close enough to the DVR. I had to order more cable for the other 3 cameras. Picture on the one camera was amazing though. It's going to be great when all four are working.

System was very easy to setup and has very good picture quality. Only been up and running for a few days now, but from everything I can see it works well. Even running the cables over some lights that could not be avoided, there is very minimal interference. I read other reviews about Lorex and have yet to experience any of the negative comments people have made. If you have the know how, you can get the answers you need to questions very easily.

Great picture, easy setup. I had a bad cable but the techs at Lorex were actually fun to talk to while troubleshooting my problem. Fairly easy set up and install. One complaint I had was with customer service I tried to call in twice and each time left my number for a return call which I never received. I had some questions before I installed the system. Somebody should have called back. Quick response from tech assist and as I mentioned they were easy to talk to and patient. I would recommend this system as the 8 cameras cover everything outside of my house. No problems hooking up with my I pad and I phone. Did not see problems that others have found.

Excellent picture quality. Versatile cameras. Complete package makes things simple to install and relatively simple to use. I would have liked a paper manual rather than an online manual, but I guess that is the way of the future.

I had absolutely no knowledge or previous experience with a surveillance system, but I am very happy that I picked this model with these cameras. The system linked easily to my Android smartphone.

One thing that may be worth mentioning, I had a very difficult time figuring out what button I had accidentally pushed to switch a camera to black and white. I played with all the buttons on the the screen as well as on my phone. Turns out, I hadn't done anything to cause this situation. FYI, if a camera senses low light, it will switch to infrared which is black and white. They can be slow to switch back to color even after the lights are on again.

My only complaint would be that the company was very difficult to reach. Called in several times, but was never able to speak with anyone for guidance making a decision on what to purchase. Most likely due to the time of year I was calling. In their defense it was during a black Friday sale, so I'm sure they were extra busy.

Hoping for years of great service from this excellent product.

Bought this at Costco. Spent about 10 hours installing it and the video quality was terrible and the cameras would cut out constantly. Any time I touched the cables on the back of the DVR the video signal would cut out or degrade or get better. I figured the cables were just poor quality so I called customer support to get new cables. The rep said it was probably a bad DVR so they would send me a new DVR and 1 new cable to try to isolate the problem. A few weeks later the DVR arrived, but no new cable. The new DVR had the same problem so another call to customer service. That tech refused to believe the cables were the problem so he told me he would send a new power supply or I could return the unit. I wasn't about to spend hours uninstalling a product that took me 10 hours to put in to return it so I bought new cables on my own at Amazon for $100. The system works fine now.
The software interface is not intuitive at all and very difficult to use. The remote viewing app is very spotty and doesn't work most of the time.
Lorex customer support doesn't resond to tickets submitted via their website and telephone support wait times are in the hours. The only way I could contact them was to go through costco concierge service.
Overall it was a frustrating product. Now that I have it working after spending the extra $100 because lorex wouldn't stand behind the quality of their products the picture is decent. You can see faces clearly at a range of about 10', but you can't read a license plate at about 20'.
It's an okay product with terrible customer service so I wouldn't recommend it. 2 stars.

Lorex people are very helpful for everything I have ask for or needed. The system is working great so far. I am doing the install myself Thanks to the people at Lorex. I am in the process running wires and setting up the cameras outside. So far so good! I can't wait until I can see what is happening while I sleep and when I am away.

Bought this at Costco. I have done a fair amount of research on these systems over the last year of so. You wont find a better system at this price point and you wont find it cheaper than Costco. Sure you can get better quality with 1080P IP cameras or even 720P IP cameras but you are going to pay a lot more.

Setup was fairly easy. Of course if you have never setup a DVR expect some of the terminology to not be familiar. The manual is well written but there are some things not explained fully. A quick search on the internet will find you most answers not in the manual.
Picture quality is great when you consider these to be analog cameras. You wont do better unless you go IP based.

One thing that will be confusing is there are differences in using the system directly connected to the dvr vs using it through the web interface vs using it with a client application. For example, you can set a scheduled reboot in the web interface but from the DVR itself. It would be nice to see consistency between the interfaces.

The Flir Cloud setup by scanning the sticker on the DVR did not work for me. Not sure what the deal was there but I manually opened the ports on my router and configured port forwarding. Access with the Android and Iphone apps was flawless by doing the manual configuration. If you don't understand port forwarding there is lots of information on the internet but some people may still be confused. In those cases I would say call a friend that knows how to set it up and have them do it for you. You will find quite a few of the negative reviews have to do with remote viewing and appear to be written by people who don't have the technical skills to set it up. The Flir Cloud scanning is a great idea if it worked.

Anyway, the bottom line with this system is that you get a lot for your money. I rate it 5 stars because it exceeds my expectations for the amount of money I spent. Sure you can do better if you want to spend more money and Lorex has systems themselves that will give you much more.

I would recommend making some changes to the FPS on recording to allow for more time to be recorded on the hard drive. I found the default settings of 30fps using CBR allowed for about 60-70 hours. By changing to 30fps VBR quality 4 you will get about 75-80 hours. Now consider that if you dont need to catch magicians doing slight of hand you can probably reduce your fps to 15 fps and double your storage time or to 10fps to triple your storage time. I have decided on 10fps VBR at quality 4. I believe this should allow me to record constantly on all 8 cameras for about 10 days. The 10 fps setting is very barely noticeably different from 30fps and things like leaves falling from trees or cars driving by still look fluid and just as sharp.

Now for some things I would like to see for this system.
- Option to get a camera with narrower field of view or a vari-focal camera.
- The ability to add and monitor 1 or 2 IP Cams. The PC client looks to allow adding a camera but would be nice to be able to add a camera to the dvr itself and record it. I believe technically it should be possible.
- The ability to search and view only motion on the phone apps
- The ability to zoom in on the video on the phone apps

One bug I found was when using the PC client to export about 10 minutes of a recording to AVI format it showed success but when I viewed the video it only contained the first 1-2 minutes of what I wanted exported. I tried a second time with a different section of video with the same result. I have not looked further into this but it does appear to be an issue with the PC client. I have not tried exporting to usb on the DVR itself or to the native format yet so possibly those will work fine.

We purchased this system (w/o monitor) at Costco and all of the hardware is top notch. The iOS and Android flir cloud apps are not great but fast and usable. HOWEVER, if you are running a mobile device w/o a rear camera then you are out of luck! AND if you want to use the DVR's DDNS interface feature, then you MUST run safari or IE. So Linux, Firefox and Chrome users are forced into using the aforementioned browsers. With all of that being said, once your in (DDNS) the interface is very good.
So, Hardware = 5/5, Apps = 3/5, DDNS and local interfaces (once connected) = 5/5, supported browsers and devices =2/5.

We have had this product for two weeks now, and we are very happy with it. The images are clear, night recording is fine as long as there is some light, play back is easy. The play-back bar indicates where there was motion, so you can just go to that part of the video, and you can fast forward, pause and zoom a section of video for individual cameras.

I had a cheap unit prior to this that had extremely poor resolution. I recently had my car window broken and the video was too poor for police to use. After browsing I found this unit at Costco's website. Its amazing how clear it is. Its a pain to run the wires, but since I already had 4 ran, I only needed 2 more and the hdmi cable. The Flir was a breeze, I used a wireless ethernet box originally for my Xbox and it hooked up flawlessly. When accessing the app abroad, there is maybe a 3-4 second delay and if on your own wifi there is zero delay (less than one second). I highly recommend this unit for the sub $600 price; I could not be happier. Customer service is real, and nice.

The camera clarity is great. It is my first system so take that for what it is. The interface is easy to use. Flir cloud is easy to setup with my device. Lost a star because the connection is hit or miss. Sometimes I try to connect and it says timed out. Im sure its an app thing not a system issue though. Overall even if I cant check the app Reviewing old footage is great. The motion indicator on saved video makes it very easy.

I bought this product off the shelf at Costco after doing some research and liking what I was reading. I am pleased with the purchase and would rate this product with 5 stars, but I am having issues/problems with a single camera only 4 days after purchase. If the support team comes through, then I will be updating this review with more stars.

The initial install was easy and the setup was fairly straight forward. The box did not have the full manual in it, only the quick install pictures. However, the full manual in PDF is available in the download section on the website. I highly recommend getting this PDF and using it. The quick install papers got me up and running, but the manual made setting up the LAN and external monitoring easier as well as explaining some of the settings on the menu. The QR code setup worked for my android tablet, but not the Iphones. I ended up using the IP to identify the system and setup the Iphones. I am using almost all of the features available and have the system setup for viewing from multiple sources. The only thing that would have made this easier is if the system had WiFi capability. Can only be LAN setup with hardwire CAT5 to the hub. The LAN setup was actually very easy once I had the cable run.

The menu and user interface takes some getting used too. The usage of right and left clicks didn?t make sense at first, but once I started using it, became easier. The user interface menus look and navigation could use a little work and be more GUI friendly, but they are functional and once I realized where to look for things it became easier to locate items. The playback menu is based on time and could use a slider to move across the video, but the recordings are all there and can be transferred as needed using the USB.

Having used a 700TVL system, this camera image quality and record quality are incredible. The night vision is much better and doesn?t white out like other systems I have seen.

I am having a problem with one of the cameras not staying in night vision mode. I have submitted a ticket and will wait for a response. As long as the customer support helps with that issue, then I will have no complaints about this system.

At this point, I would recommend this system, even with the one camera issue. For the price, the quality of picture can?t be beat.

Pros: high resolution cameras night vision capable, 1 tb dvr records about 4 1/2 days x 8 hd cameras, footage remotely accessible, dvr is easy to use with motion designators

Cons: none identified as of yet

Model Number: LHD818

"Bought this product at Costco after one of my neighbors was burglarized. After I installed it, I realized that if I'd had it when it happened, I would have been able to read the license plate four houses down the alley. The picture is that sharp.

The package is pretty complete, if you don't have a long run between a camera and the DVR. I have a long, narrow home, so I had to order a 120 ft cable for the front street camera to reach the DVR, but the 60 ft cables were sufficient for the rest of the house, inside and out.

HD picture quality is outstanding, including night vision acuity. The DVR software is very user friendly, and with a little playing around, is easy to navigate.

With 8 HD cameras, the 1 TB DVR is good for about 4 1/2 days, and if there is an incident that needs to be reviewed, the motion sensor designator in the footage makes it easy to find and download (no sitting through hours of footage to find what you're looking for). The fast and slow motion features make it even quicker to find what you're looking for.

The system is remotely accessible though the internet, so you can monitor and/or download footage as necessary if you are away from home.

Wish I had had this installed when my neighbor was burlarized. It would have assisted the local law enforcement in determining vehicle traffic and identification, number and description of perpetrators (and quite possibly identities), and given them leads on resolving the case and recovering their possessions."

I just picked up the LHD818 a day ago. At first I was blown away by the size of the cameras and the weight of each one. The plastic feel did not seem as solid but I am sure its been tested to be sturdy. Hardware setup was a breeze and upon boot, I noticed the system came up right away. The first few cameras stood out and started to notice some imperfections on each camera. Some cameras were blurry and some sharp. I noticed one camera was completely out of focus and camera lens was probably no adjusted. I wrote an email to tech support and hopefully get an answer on the repair. The software seems to have limitations such as only being able to see 4 channels on playback at once. All 8 could not be pulled up at once. FFWD and RWD is not fast to process. Digital Zoom is a bit difficult to use. Not yet tested the mobile or remote access. It's terrible that no other camera can be connected to this DVR as well as the 720P camera cannot be connected to another DVR. So the system is completely proprietary. Scary if something were to fail especially with a 1yr MFG warranty. Today I received an email indicating if I write a review I can recieve a 2nd yr FREE warranty which is a plus. Still they need to correct the bugs mentioned including the limited hardware replacements. I looked up the 720P cameras and I see them sold in pairs but no price. I found them on ebay for $238 for 4 and $89 for 1. Overall with a day and 1/2 of playing with it I am impressed with the quality, playback, easy setup, small/lightweight cameras and its distance is fairly good. Night mode will be tested shortly. So far if there are any lights around it seems to make areas darker in non-illuminated areas. I will need to test placement.

I purchased this system from our local store after reading a lot about the new 720p over analog cameras and the bang for buck! I found the installation of the system (other than crawling around in my attic) to be extremely simple. Lorex has taken the guess work out of connecting to your system remotely and "even a caveman can do it". We have ours connected via our Android phones, our iPads and even from our home PC. We installed the system in a secure closet and rarely even login at the dvr, almost always remotely. If I was able to make one change it would be the option to add a second hdd. Not just for more recording time, but if one failed, it would be nice to have a backup hdd just incase.

Picked this up from Costco. Setup was easy. The BNC connections are difficult to connect due to not enough spacing between the plugs. Camera resolution is very good. I like the zoom capability. Haven't had it long but I think it is a keeper. The FLIR download for the Mac doesn't work and there is no documentation on the website. I called and was informed that I need to upgrade my OS to download and extract the program. Never had any issue downloading and extracting programs even if it won't execute. Website needs to provide Mac compatibility and instructions.

I purchased this system from local store after I saw that system demo in the store . I am amazed with the product and camera resolution. It is very easy to set it up and view local LAN and over internet WAN. I have configured to access it over LAn/WAN/iPhone app and they all worked great. I strongly recommend this product to anyone, as a matter fact lots of my neighbor want to buy this system after I installed and show it to them. I had slight issue with WAN setup and called Lorex tech support which is very knowedgable and assisted me since my work had firewall blocking the port preventing WAN connectivity but I had alternate way to access from my work PC.

System works as advertised. Video images are very good and many more features than expected. Most important is the service which earns 5 stars for their 7 days coverage and a very patient staff to get me initially setup. Could not get my TV monitors connected but was flawless with a PC monitor. Internet access to iPad was easy to set up and will be a great tool for remote viewing. Relatively new product so there might be some hidden glitches but not to concerned because of the good support. My system is up and running.
