I purchased this unit to offer recorded security for monitoring the area surrounding my shop. All of my cameras are mounted outside tucked up against the bottom of the eves against the wall. My eves overhang by 24" so there is 20" of immediate overhead protection for every camera. Setup was easy, very quick and painless, love the POE. Angling the cameras to get the right view was just as easy. However.....
Even in the daytime these cameras are not clear enough (even though they claim HD 1080P) to read a vehicle licence plate from more than 40' away, and even at that it had better be a nice new clean plate. On the plus side these cameras can see quite far even in the middle of a cloudy night with almost no artificial lighting nearby. I have the settings set to max resolution and quality.
I have many, many issues with the software and settings control.
The software does not allow you to set the length of continuous motion required to activate, as well you cannot select how many 'squares' need to be detecting motion at the same time to trigger an event. Here is why I cannot recommend this system. This system will trigger a motion event if it is; raining (even moderately), snowing, windy, sun shining through then clouds moving across blocking the suns beam, cameras switching from day to night mode and visa versa, vehicle lights passing by, invisible "ghosts" (it randomly triggers an event when nothing happens, I have reviewed and reviewed "motion events" that were triggered and NOTHING occurs. This is absolutely pathetic. I also own motion lights that surround my shop, these cost me about $20 each and these things work a million times better then this supposed $1000+ system. Why is it my $20 motion light does not trigger even in very heavy snow fall or when a light goes by, but the second even a neighbours small cat walks by (even 40 feet away) it triggers on? I had the system set to notify me via e-mail if a motion event was triggered and it is past the point of "the boy who cried wolf" I honestly don't even use this system anymore. I just check it if I KNOW there was something I want to check. Which is completely pointless, I bought this to know about the times I am not around and watching everything. Even speaking with tech support did nothing as they told me to adjust the sensitivity however I already have it set so low that there are times I can walk past slowly at only 20 feet out and it is a hit or miss whether the camera will trigger an event. So basically I have it set so desensitized that it really isn't doing what it should be yet even light snow triggers this 'argggg' system. If I could use everything from this system EXCEPT the horrible software I would give this a 4 star for the price. However I simply flat out will tell people not to buy this at all because of the brutal software and lack of controls. One of the cameras is mounted almost 25' up and it won't trigger if a person walks by, only a vehicle will trigger it, but heaven forbid a snow flake should fall 20" away from the lens..... When a $20 motion light can reliably and consistently perform without issue, yet this expensive system can't even function even close to properly it is totally useless in my opinion. Maybe if this entire system was ONLY used inside and there was no chance of clouds moving in front of the moon or something at night then you would only have to worry about the constant "ghost" motion trigger events that have nothing moving yet created a triggered event. Sorry Lorex, I had hopes this would at least perform to a basic level.... especially for the cost. Yes I did an immediate firmware / software update check when I installed this 2 months ago.

Purchased the unit fromthe Lorex website, shipping was fast but not a lot of communication/tracking. This unit was super easy to set up, the POE cameras made it a snap and they are crystal clear. Some issue with the first machine but Lorex was awesome and the replacement is everything I wanted in a home unit. Software does not recognize my router and software seems to be a bit of a pain but the unit, recording and quality are first rate.
