Im going to give this system 2 stars, even though I may keep it, for false advertising! I would say it is false to advertise and tout motion detection when it is non-functional at night. At the 0 sensitivity setting I just got 30-40 alarms last night. It takes awhile to go through each of these. I had thought I would be able to record and view animals in the mountains at night. Now it looks like that will be a real hastle. I think better motion detection software could be written. Multi-frame filtering with configurations is needed.
I briefly tried saving off a video, like you might want to provide to law-enforcement. It is an mpeg-4. It also produced a jpg still. I clicked the mpeg4 and windows did not play it, it said the file was bad. The file will replay thru the lorex software, but I don't know what someone else you provide the file to would use. The video stored seemed to be small and square aspect, not the original. The jpg seemed to work for a still.
The picture looks good, but not as good as I had thought it would. I thought I was getting 1080p. It does display as 1080p, but it looks much more granular. If you zoom in, the image is pretty much not usable. There is some sore of pixel-to-pixel amplitude noise, which makes it hard to see how your are getting 2megapixels without stretching. I am suspicious this is a much lower res camera being stretched, or a high noise sensor being filtered. That said, in the day I enjoy looking at my view from a highly placed camera. You can still detect noise in the video, which gets better with more light but never entirely goes away. I don't understand why non-security cameras are so much better, unless there is just a lot of profit here from a very cheap camera. That said, it may be my misunderstanding, because I read that most cameras of this type are about the same, in fact they may share the source supplier.
Overall the system is functional, but not so good it has really satisfied. I may just have to make do. I think it could be done right, and it aggrevates me that an unfinished system it being touted and sold.
So the pic in the day looks good, and works with omissions in software and documentation. Pic at night looks like you are shining a flashlight forward and looking through a black and white tv with a snowy picture.....if you are old enough to appreciate that. But night mode works with decent range. That may be state of the art in this price range, but it is no pleasure to look at, but is functional. I don't know if what kind of info you would get if there was a burglary. I guess it could work (night).
Was this too harsh? I kindof like the system, and may keep it, but I am offended at the marketing hype vs. the holes in the system. I wonder if this review will last?
Oh, just looking at some of these other great reviews, about how quickly their order was shipped......I ordered on black Friday, and got a deal. My order arrived in about 2-3 days....and it was totally wrong! It took me until early Jan to get the correct NVR, until mid-Jan to get all my cameras.
I have not even tried to call. Turn around on the Web Site for questions is 2-4 days or more. I had one camera which often is not recognized. I want to exchange it. Its been a week and still no response. I put in a tech support request. after 4 days, I got an email that my question is being elevated to tech support.......
I kindof like the system, but I am a bit sad.....I wonder why the other reviews are so good? Try Googling Lorex. All-in-all though, that may just be the way it is in this price range. That is disappointing, why cant this be done right?
