We purchased Lorex wireless Camera first one from Costco 3 years ago and had issues once with one of the Camera and since it was in Warranty got replaced. Since then we are very satisfied with the product as it covers our surroundings of our House and driveway and make us feel safe especially with the 2 way intercom system and motion detection it alert us. We were so happy with the product that we bought another one last December LW2700/2900 series and will install in our backward .

I purchased the LW 2960 system with 4 cameras to use on my house and workshop also purchased the directional antennae ANTD9. Both products work flawlessly and were easy to setup and installed.
Dealing with the telephone sales system at Lorex is horrendous. First call I was on the phone 24 minutes so I left my number for a call back that never happened. The second call I waited 54 minutes only to find out what I needed was no longer available, so I bought a new system.

We purchased a LW2960 HD camera system (current model is HD82) for our daughter and husband for use in their nursery. We thought that with the two cameras this made sense for their twins. As they get older the cameras can be used outdoors, or they can add up to two more for watching them while playing outside. The setup was worry free and my daughter is able to check the monitors via her smartphone while at work. So far we rate our experience a 5 star

My Lorex Wireless Security worked very well with one camera so I bought four. It worked very well for two years.
I think its a very good system. However, the monitor has recently received a problem where it does not remain powered on. Ive contacted Lorex to solve this problem because I have found the wireless security system to be very efficient.

Overall, it is a good product. I gave four stars because the monitor recently got a problem.

Horrible horrible product. Worse yet, horrible company to work with. If you have ANY problems at all and need to talk to someone you can forget it! I have called them a dozen times over the past 2 months of purchasing this system. I have left my number, I have held on the line for an hour at one time, I have emailed them multiple times. No response! This product has false advertising -- the "recording" is for a few hours (really helpful when you go out of town). Also, you CANNOT login remotely. This system is a complete waste of money. I would not recommend to anyone.

Easy to assemble and activate with clear instructions. Worked right out of the box. Detailed manual must be downloaded, and has additional information . Operation of the monitor is tricky. The joy stick has to be moved carefully to move through menus etc. Ability to monitor using iPhone or iPad is a plus.

Recently I purchased a LW491HD from Lorex for peace of mind in our home. I have setup the cameras (4 of them) near each of the entrance doors and one in the garage to keep and eye on them. It could not have been easier. The system is simple to setup and works well. I have the cameras setup to record movement and when the card is full they overwrite the oldest files one at a time to keep a rolling window. It is simple and intuitive to use the screen and it is portable and can be carried, on battery power, to wherever I am in the home. If you want to have remote access to view the recorded videos and/or live images from outside the home you must use an ethernet network connection, but it works great without it (minus the remote viewing). I have had the system for about 6 months and it has worked very well. Recently I had an issue with one of the cameras and I have started the RMA process, but it was simple and support was very helpful. It seems they care about their product and are willing to stand behind them.

Great camera easy set up. Problem is after 2 months no more notifications from the iphone app. called customer service and you do get someone outside the US so difficult to understand them. Nobody can help me with the App for iphone. tried resetting the system, uninstalling the app on iphone and ipad and still nothing. A little frustrating and no help from Lorex. I would probably give 4 stars except now I don't know when anyone is at my door as I don't get any notifications. Very disappointed with the whole company and system

This system was recommended to me by my brother-in-law, Today I installed the four cameras and am checking the monitor as I write this review. The clarity of each camera is superb. The installation was quite easy. I spent all day installing the equipment because I wanted to be sure as to each camera's best location. Initially, I can vouch for the quality of the equipment. I would recommend this system to anyone who wants to invest in a security system.

Product arrived ahead of schedule. Ordered the base system plus two additional cameras. System setup went well with the two cameras that were already paired with reciever. After several attempts at pairing the additional cameras called customer service for help. Got through after a short wait and discovered they sent to wrong cameras for my receiver. Received the correct cameras after a few days and they paired up with no problem. Screen quality is pretty good even with cameras several walls away from the receiver. Motion detection was spotty so I record manually to make sure nothing is missed. 8 Gig micro card that came with the system records about 7 hours with all four cameras recording. Looking into higher capacity card.

So far I am pleased with the system. It was very easy to install, and took me approximately 1-1/12 hours to install. I have been having some vandalism on my newly installed vinyl fence. I have not had any problems since installing the cameras. I installed the system outside, and have had no problems with the weather, as the weather can get bad sometimes in north Idaho. The price was reasonable, and I would recommend the camera system.

I am very pleased with this purchase. The Lorex Live LW2912 was easy to set up - connected right away. The quick start guide was very useful. The night vision camera works great up to the advertised 40 foot limit which is perfect for our needs. The monitor is simple to use and gives a very decent picture.

If I could, I would actually give this 4-1/2 stars. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because it uses Skype as an internet interface. I am not a fan of Skype and would prefer another way to view my cameras on my iPhone or computer. Otherwise, it has performed very well so far. I would defintely recommend it.

We purchased this security system while we were putting 2 additions on our house allowing me to run the wires in the walls and the ceiling. When we first hooked up the system,it worked very well and the cameras were very clear.2 months ago I started getting a beep in the system telling me there was a harddrive error. At that time,I went into the operation manual and followed the instructions to correct the problem.I also disconnected all the cameras and tried again a number of times.I tried to call tech support and had no luck .I ended up calling the business office and was told he could not help.He also told me I would have to send the hard drive unit in and the type of Lorex system I have.It would cost about $200 to repair.I am vey pleased with the system but do not understand why I am having this problem with the harddrive and I need to get this fixed and back up and running. It seems the harddrive should last a lot longer .It has been in a heated office and not moved around or damaged in any way.
I really like the system and the way I have it set up .It is very easy to monitor the shop and around the house with the cameras. Also it was fairly easy to install.I am hoping this information will help and you can tell me how to get it fixed. Thanks!

I bought this as a security toy and a lookout, this even beeps to alert me of anyone entering my security zone. it was a snap to install , front door rear door, the unit igot has 2 cameras , i wanted at least one more camera so i purchased another complets 2 camera package, its cheaper that way. i have a attached garage with a HEMI challanger, that happens to be my fast toy, so now i can sit an watch it on the 9in monitor. i bought the LW 2912 UNIT. THIS ITEM DOES EVERYTHING, the infar red night vision is just like daytime, the tchnalogy in this is second to none the the great price , and the sense of security. 5 stars no problem for this set up. i highly recommend this set up.

Shipped as promised. Easy to install. Nice, not having to mess with wires. I am running four camera off the 9 " monitor. I generally do not keep a light on at the garage door, but with the infrared, one is not needed at night.
the audio capability is a plus. The camera on the front porch doubles as a intercom.

Effectively nothing. Both feriuencqes have more than enough bandwidth to pass the video. The 1.2 *might* penetrate walls a little better or propagate farther but this is nothing compared to the design and engineering of the reciever. The only way to really tell is to try both. Otherwise just go for the cheaper. I'm pretty sure both 1.2 and 2.4 are internationally used for things like that but if you are outside the US you might check to make sure you wont be interfering with anything.

Good Surveillance for Beginner

I got my front and back doors covered with the 2 cameras included. Took 30 minutes to install both outdoors. I stationed them near windows with electrical outlets close by, so I just fed the wire through the screen and locked the window. I did like the remote monitoring through Skype so I can view the cameras through my iphone. But getting the cameras Skype account linked through my Skype account took over an hour. Then once it linked, there's a bit of delayed recording (I could walk past the front door and leave before the empty porch showed up on my phone). So I just don't view remotely because it records on the screen and I can view the memory card later that week. Overall good for the intended purpose.

I wish I had purchased four cameras to begin with. Make sure you order the right models. The system seems to be working well. I did have a problem with one camera that would not pair. I called support, and after a fairly long wait, got assistance. We found out I needed a replacement camera. I got a replacement fairly quickly. The pictures are clear and the sound is good. The sensitivity to motion is better with the night vision than in the daytime. I really wish the infared worked through a window. I understand the reflective nature of the divice and will work with it. I ordered another two cameras and they came, and work great. I live in an old house that has really thick brick walls. I was surprised how well the system works from some fairly long distances, and through some substantial walls. Just this weekend, one of the first two cameras has started making static sounding noise in the mornings and evenings. I moved the camera, interchanged antennas. That is not the problem, maybe it is the camera. I have not figured out the issue yet. I have a call into support today. They are to call me back. Because this is a new problem that just started, I think it may be something someone is using or doing nearby causing the interferance/static. We will see. So far, I like the system.

The wireless communications is very good (has never failed).

It would be nice to be able to vary the record times rather than the two provided. This would let one camera to time out and allow another camera in the system start recording as the target moves closer to the house.

Installation of this product was a breeze. Many options for security are available and allowed us to do many things with the system. At one point the system started to freeze, but once Customer Service was contacted, they were able to walk me through and resolve the issues. For the price, this system is well worth it.

Camera images could be a little clearer pic but overall the system is a great starter security system for a great price. Easy to setup. Very useful screen with tons of features. Everything I wanted in a system is built in. Wireless makes it easy too and probably takes some effect on my camera clearness. But I rent my house and don't want to hardwire for a security system.

So far it's been a fair deal from Amazon.
Although, I'm not impressed with the cumbersome nature of the 10 minute recording block files. Lots of button pushing to review the night's data.
Also; the camera mounting hardware requires a lock nut and washer, in order to be pivot-able without the nut falling off inside the mounting plate, requiring removal, fixing and reattachment.

The sound doesn't work, but I didn't care about that function from the beginning.

We shouldn't need to have a receipt after registration, for the warranty to be valid.

Update 5/30/2013: The sound does work. During the original testing, the cameras and monitor were next to each other, and all I got was loud screeching. Now installed, there is very good sound pick-up.

It's okay as long as you don't try to do too much with it. It serves very well as a simple video/audio monitor for the front door so I know who is there and can speak with them. The auto record does not work for me because the breeze moves the shrubs and that keeps it recording constantly. Fortunately that feature can be turned off. Have not tried to use it remotely and probably won't bother.

This is a GREAT mid priced home security system. It was so easy to set up, but PLEASE take the protective plastic off the lens! LOL, it took me 2 days to figure it out I had left the film on. The resolution was great with the film on it.......but it was AWESOME without it.

I am an experienced carpenter and I intentionally searched for an easy to install wireless system. If you are NOT experienced in home maintenance I would NOT recommend the DVR Sysytems, which has wires and you have to install in the attic.

This is a COMPLETE system and the 9 inch montior is like a PC tablet that sits like a picture frame and it can be moved from room to room like when you go to bed. Just unplug and then re-plug, the wireless receiver imediately finds the cameras with no dely or messing around.

Lorex SD9 Wireless Digital Security System

I purchased the SD9 system with the two cameras the first week in May 2011. It took literally only minutes to get the system working so that it could be checked out. However, I installed the two cameras under the front eave of the house which took a few tools and about an hour to mount the brackets into a stucco wall and mount an electrical source for the cameras. The cameras worked perfectly and continue to work now. Three days later I ordered two additional cameras and a couple of tripods so that I could have two portable cameras. After receiving these extra cameras, my grandchildren wanted to use one camera in an old barn behind the house to see if they could observe any nocturnal wildlife. The camera broadcast perfectly from a distance of about 80 to 90 yards and through 2 walls in the barn and 3 more walls at the house where the DVR was placed. We didn't see any wildlife as everyone went to sleep but the cameras continued to work throughout the night. The night vision works as advertised and is quite amazing.

The only things I would like to see changed in this Lorex system include:

1. Weatherproof, rather than weather-resistant cameras.

2. Allow for user pictures to be displayed in the screensaver mode. The included pictures just don't seem to fit a west Texas farm setting. :)

3. Group selection of videos in the DVR rather than the labour intensive single video delete method.

4. A little larger remote as the very small remote is very easy to lose. Or possibly some sort of remote beeper when the remote does get misplaced.

All in all this security camera system is great for the price and I would recommend it to anyone who seeks an inexpensive home security camera system.

What's great about it: Screen monitoring, night vision, motion sensor

What's not so great: Long distance clarity

I bought this for home security/surveillance. It was easy to set up and is easy to use. The record with motion feature works very well, and there's an audible alarm (with volume control) at the monitoring screen to let you know that something triggered the sensor. The monitor can be used in quad mode or it will flip between camera views. The monitor can also be turned off, while the system remains functional. (I find this nice because I keep the monitor in the bedroom and don't want it flickering all night, but can turn it on with the remote control if I need to see something.) The monitor also has a "new video" indicator to let you know if something recorded since your last check. The night vision clarity is great. If I had to state any negatives, it would be that the camera's clarity at a distance could be better. But if you need it to just cover entryways, and short distances, it would be an excellent choice. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: (1) Easy set-up and (2) intercom

What's not so great: Garage camera reduces range of wireless garage door opener.

Works well.

Good range - even through CBS concrete walls (20' - 30'). Even better through interior walls.

Fairly clear picture.

Like that it records to a SD card.

Love the 2 way intercom at the cameras.

Motion detection works well.

Easy to set-up and use.

Does interfere w/ wireless signal (somewhat reduced range) of garage door opener.

Don't like having to re-set system date & time after power off.

Not bad for the price

What's great about it: 2 way & motion sensor

What's not so great: needs a wider angle lens

Picked up on the deal of the Day for $250.00.

I would not pay the regular $400 they ask.

The only real disappointment was the field of range.

You need to mount it under the eaves by the door to use the 2 way communication, but that close you either need to mount it down lower where anyone could touch it or higher & only see about a 5' circle.

I would recommend this to a friend!

THE SYSTEM SEEMS TO WORK,BUT IT ALSO STATES VIEWABLE AT 65'. THERE IS NO WAY EVEN AT 45' YOU CAN MAKE OUT A PERSON FACE. BE AWARE THE CAMERAS WILL NOT TRANSMITT THROUGH A METAL WALL, NOT STATED IN SALES ADD. I DID ADD A CABLE TO ANTENNA TO BRING IT INSIDE AND THAT WORKED. I ALSO MUST LEAVE A LIGHT ON ALMOST TO VIEW ANYTHING, IN THE DARK CAN NOT SEE MUCH. I WOULD SPEND MORE MONEY TO GET A BETTER OR HIGHER GRADE UNIT.

Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System-

Easy setup, easy recording, good picture quality, day and night. I like the fact it goes to a SD card and not to a DVD. Easy to review and format. It does only record one camera at a time, but so far that has been more than adequate. Others have mentioned the remote is a bit flimsy, but I have had no problem with it. It would have been nice to have one a bit sturdier, but it works well. For the price it is the best deal that I have found... you will not be disappointed.

Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System - LW2902 (Camera)

I am pleased with the purchase. We have local youth who routinely try to break into our vehicles and/ or make off with various yard decorations. This system seems to be the proper means to see who is doing it. I will say I bought mine at BJ's Wholesale for the same price as here; I wanted to really see if it would work and have an immediate option for return.

PRO

- Sets up fast; right out of the box.

- Night vision is SUPERB! I have both cameras trained on our parking area and back yard, and I can see almost to the far side of the property at night. Best is I can see my dog on the monitor when he's out on is last out of then night. Our yard is a good 80 feet deep and I can see almost to the back side of it at night.

- Auto Record is GREAT! 5 - 15 - 30 second clips of any activity recorded on the memory card. Caught a lot of our yard work yesterday.

- 2 way audio is great!

CON

- Range, I had to move the monitor into the room just inside from where I mounted the cameras. The signal almost has to be line of sight. Thinking about the booster antenna, but not just yet.

- The Skype function is bogus and negates the reason to have the system. Either you can look at ONE camera while on Skype to see what's going on outside, or you can have a multi-camera, auto-record security monitoring system, but you can't have both. There is no feature for the software to automatically call you with a video if there is something going on. THAT would have been the golden ticket for this system.

But it records stuff happening, and through the monitor, I can see the events. I like that PEACE OF MIND.

This review is from: Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System - LW2902 (Camera)

The unit works mostly as advertised. Motion detection is good and triggers quickly. The only negative is the resolution could have been better. Image is fuzzier than indicated on the advertisements, and although some may like the large screen, it would be best to have a smaller display that you can carry around. Nevertheless, the sound is decent, and night vision is reasonably clear. Another drawback is the IR lights are illuminated in the dark, which means that an intruder can easily find the camera and just unplug it. But for the money, what can you ask for. The menu is bare bones and there is no option to disable the annoying "beep" for every selection, which could give away to an intruder that somebody somewhere nearby is watching him. The idea of the "joy stick" adjust is a good one. There is a volume adjust for the alarm and that is a plus. The two way communication feature works good. My wife would have liked a car power adapter option, so when arriving from work she could get a snapshot of who is in the house. But that could be an add on remote. Overall, for this price the system is good enough to monitor your home while you are sleeping, and it still seems to me the best buy right now.

Great system for the Price

What’s great about it?             Clear pictures.  Easy install

What’s not so great?               Only able to record 1 camera at a time.

I have had this system for 1 year now and it is great. The recordings are clear (especially at night). If I would change 1 thing about the system it would be to have the system to be able to record more then 1 camera at a time.

OK Surveillance Cameras system

I bought this camera system to monitor two babies in separate rooms at the same time. The most important feature I am looking for is to be able to listen to two babies at the same time because I don't want to be constantly looking at two sleeping babies on the screen.

Cons:

(1) Unfortunately this system does not provide such capability: when in quad mode, there is no audio from any channel.

But there is audio when you are looking at single channel. So there is a workaround: you can set the system to alternate between two cameras to pick up audio from one channel at a time. The interval of switching camera is about 5 seconds, so you could miss the audio event. And channel switching is visually annoying when you try to do other things while monitoring your babies.

Any way, this workaround is not desirable to me, and it is the main factor that I returned this system.

(2) The video quality is not great, especially at night. The IR light creates a very bright spot in the center of frame, so it makes the image details in the center hard to recognize.

(3) There is an unpleasant click sound on the camera speaker side when you switch to talk.

(4) No remote IP viewing capability. Although you could technically connect this system through a PC through Skype as a web cam, I don't consider that is remote viewing capability for I can make any camera remotely viewable with a PC and neccessary accessories.

Pros:

(1) I have good wireless connection indoor (haven't tried outdoor yet)

(2) I am happy with the two-way audio communication.

(3) It is a nice compact integrated wireless security camera system.

(4) The cameras looks cool.

Pros: price and ease of installation

Cons: Costco does not carry just additional cameras

I researched a number of products and selected this one for price and the two way audio.

It was very easy to install and to set up.

The picture quality is quite okay, be it day or night.

I use it to monitor the exterior front and side entrance of our house. It is working very well.

Great Product, Just Understand Its Limits

I've used this system for 6 months now, and thus far it has worked very well. Let me cut to the chase:

PROS

-Easy installation. Very nice not needing cables ran everywhere, only power sources. Wireless has worked well, even during storms. There is a delay however, and sometimes it does cut out (not often).

-With the memory upgrade, you get more than adequate recording time.

-Very sharp picture quality and easy to use controls. Built in mics are a plus. Night vision is good.

-Affordable compared with other systems and has plenty of features.

-Durable. Have yet to have a problem after 6 months, including cold winter usage (Although I do recommend keeping the product out of direct water contact).

CONS

-If your using this for security, like I am, then several major problems exist. The motion detection is hit and miss, and sometimes does not activate the camera (cars usually do, people sometimes). The second problem is that it can't dual record - basically only one camera records at a time for 5 seconds and switches over. So, if you get robbed, it's entirely possible the camera may miss them coming into view or you'll miss an important event.

- The video unit is also the recording unit. So, if you get robbed, all they have to do is take the monitor (True, it does have a screensaver mode to hide the intent of the unit, but it's pretty obvious what it is).

-The menu system could be a bit smoother. Even with instructions, setting up events and viewing past recordings can be a hassle.

I think overall this system is great, if you understand it's limitations. For non-security purposes (like watching a children's room, etc) I think it would be perfect. For security, I think it works well as long as you know where the system has faults. If you've ever been robbed, you know how hindsight is always 20/20. Understand this system may not capture an important event and supplement your security system with other deterrents as well.

Affordable, decent quality security

At this point, I have installed one of the two cameras. I have one on my front door and will ultimately have one on the driveway. Installation and operation are very simple and basic. The fact that it is wireless makes life 100 times easier! The image quality is decent, about what I expected from such a system. The biggest flaw that I have discovered to this point is the rather low quality of the monitor, especially with regards to mounting hardware.

If you want a very basic system with effortless installation, I would definitely recommend this one.

Works for me!

I am pleased with the unit. It is very easy to setup and just as easy to operate. Camera quality is good enough to give me updates on the animals and barn that I was concerned about. Night vision works well, as does the motion detect. One camera is 350' away behind a barn wall and I still get signal to the unit. I had to put the unit up higher to achieve that, but that was no problem. Two months of 24/7 operation and the only failure was the memory chip which I wanted to upgrade anyway. For the cost and ease of setup I would recommend this unit.

Easy to use

Good day and night picture quality. The two way audio works great. Very easy configuration. Initial set up takes less than 15 minutes. Automatic redord modes are helpful. The only reason for  it not being a 5 star is because the time and date are not saved when you turn off the display. So each time you turn on the display, you must configure time and date.

Lorex Live SD9 Wireless Digital Security System LW2092

I love this little security system. It is easy to set up and the wireless function is flawless unless you happen to unplug the cameras. Make sure you have a good electrician who can install a weatherproof electrical outlet either under the eaves of your house or in the attic. I happen to be married to one so it was no problem for me (smile).  Anyway here is the ins and outs on this system. There is a line of buttons on the right side just behind the screen that gives you access to intercom, the bottom button, menu the top button and the middle toggle guides you around in the menu. So far, I have only found access to the Quad screen from the little remote control. The range of the remote isn't that far away from the screen but who is going to stand in the other room to program it anyway. I want to see what it is doing! The video is all in color with sound and playback can be done in either Windows media player or Quick time. I like Windows media player best. The screen has NTSC and PAL available. You can hook it up to your TV or computer and just let it sit along side if you want or hang it on a wall like we have done. It comes with an SD card but I chose to use a 16GB SD card to hold more video. The cameras have night vision and switch to wherever the movement is detected. We have one pointed at our front entrance and one pointed towards our driveway. We are going to buy two more for the east and west backside of our house. Make sure you keep the camera lens clean as bugs or other bits of trash blowing in the air might get stuck to it. It just needs to be looked at, checked and cleaned periodically as a maintenance routine.

PROS- In color even at night if there is light otherwise it looks black and white at night.

It is wireless, the cameras communicate wirelessly with the screen

It is reasonable in price

The cameras are sturdy

The screen can be used either mounted on the wall or it has its own stand

It is capable of recording in quad mode, however in quad mode you cannot record scheduled recordings

It is dependable

It comes with 2 cameras but is capable of four

It has a remote

Cons - The remote is tiny

You can only view Quad using the remote unless someone knows another way

Acceptable with No Bragging Rights

The cameras operate well, but do not provide sharp images. The front door camera is positioned within three feet of the front door, but faces are not clear. The camera and monitor work, but I was expecting a camera geared for the outdoors, only to find in camera documentation, that it is not meant to operate in snow and rain. It has rained and the images continued to display without interruption, but I wonder how long this will be the case.

Easy, quick, reliable

Simply put, this system is exactly as described. Yes, you need to run the wireless cameras to an outlet because how else would you power them? That should not be a question or issue for anyone so I find it remarkable that some have commented on that as an issue. I've installed one of my cameras at least 100 feet away, on the other side of a large garage and have the receiver/monitor inside the kitchen and there are no signal issues.

I am very impressed with this system and I think some of that is because after reading a number of reviews (the due diligence anyone should do before making a purchase like this) I had very grounded expectations. To this end, my expectations have been exceeded in every way because you can tell the design and construction was well thought out. For example, when running the power cable from the camera to the inside of the garage to an outlet I was worried I'd have to bore a hole in the wall big enough to run the plug through, but instead the actual plug itself is not attached to the camera and rather is connected to the power cord on the camera via an adapter just roughly the same size as the cord itself and therefore no hole boring needed, only a drill hole the size of a cord.

On other note, the ability to capture images by trigger activated motion is awesome. I was concerned this could be an unreliable feature but so far it is working brilliantly. The rabbit that runs by does not get recorded, but the teenager cutting through and over my fence does. They've designed it well. And, the night vision works great! It is pitch black in my backyard at night, but looking through the monitor it looks like the early evening before dusk.

Again, I'm very impressed.

Pros: Easy set up, reliable

Cons: Faster trigger time would be nice

Purchased one set and liked it so much we bought a second set. We have used them outdoors for one year. They have lasted through all 4 seasons. Only trouble we've had is with one that we placed poorly with no protection from weather. One is placed between 300 - 400 ft away from the base to view wildlife. We are running it off a car battery and inverter for power where there is no plug.

Great product for the price

I have one camera in my barn to view my animals and another monitoring the road that leads to it. The barn is about 400-500ft from my house and the signal was ok, my indoor camera would drop in and out when the barn door was closed. I purchase a cheap 2.4ghz antenna from amazon 10 dBi 2.4GHz WIFI Antenna for the unit and my signal cleared right up.

I like the 2 way audio feature here; we keep the unit in the kitchen so when I am in the barn working my family can easily communicate with me. We also breed goats, so when spring comes it will make our job of checking on the kids much easier. The night vision is adequate (approx. 30ft. range) and the daylight camera is very clear. I would recommend placing a motion light near your outside cameras for extra visibility.

The only things I would like to change are the ability to choose motion recording on just one camera of the 2, I get a ton of night time recordings when my goats are in the barn. So when I go through the security footage I need to scroll through tons of video and giving us the ability to place custom photos as a screensaver, the stock ones on there are lame.

Very Pleased

Installation was truly "plug and play". Power the components up and go. Great depth of field. I have them mounted within 5 ft of each entrance covered. Triggered record works well. Triggering is a little slow, one door hanger presented itself as only the blur of an arm moving out of camera range. Night vision produces usable images up to about 20 feet. No interference from wireless router but one 2.4 portable phone will cause signal failure from cameras when in use. Mounted under eaves and cameras have been through a full week of rain, no problems. Two way intercom works well for folks with good hearing. My hearing is poor and I need to really concentrate to hear from the camera. Camera microphones are very sensitive. We can hear crickets. The monitor screen scratches easily. Mounted the monitor under a shelf as we have cats who knock things over. Cob webs in front of the cameras at night will produce an weird glow like something from ghost hunters. Furthest camera is approx. 20 feet from monitor with 4 walls between. Get full four bars of signal. This is a great product for my application. I will be purchasing two more cameras and two IR illuminators (non-Lorex) to cover complete front and back yards.

Works but for me the signal is too short distance

My Mom is very content however I feel like I should be able to have one camera in the front of the house and the other in the rear without any issues for the price. As is you need to buy TWO of these in order to really get the whole house covered and both LCD Screens will have to be close to the camera's. Oh and another gripe is you gonna plug them in!!! That makes for an entirely new set of installation issues when putting them outside the house :(

I still think it's a cool system and worth it if it makes my Mom feel better about the tenant stealing from us in the back yard, etc etc. Its motion recording is very good!

Dense materials such as concrete, brick, fieldstone, wood, and metal can impact wireless transmission range. In an environment with many competing signals, the frame rate and range of the cameras may be reduced.

Mounting issues

The cameras and DVR monitor operate quite nicely and the price was reasonable. I had trouble with the threading on the camera for the mounting hardware. The threads on one camera were stripped and would not secure the camera to the mount tightly. The manufacturer sent me a new replacement.

NOT Rain Proof

Overall these are nice units, and the ease of set up is impressive.

Two points that cause the 3 star rating.

1) the remote is cheap, and of poor quality. Sometimes it works, but often it does not work at all, yes I changed the battery, and it did not help. :(

2) these are described as "Cameras can be installed indoors or outdoors" and the box even has a little icon showing an umbrella with rain bouncing off it. We made the mistake of thinking that it rains outdoors in most places, or even snows! Turns out when you read the fine print, that "outdoors" means under shelter were it is not rained or snowed on...... like you know, INDOORS!!

I've fabricated a couple of covers for the cameras, but if I had known this in advance I would have paid more for the cameras that could stand to be rained on.

If you can install these in a sheltered area, they are good so far, for the price I think taking in the two points I made, they are very good.

Kindly note warning in the giftbox that cameras must be installed under shelter.

Fantastic Quality for Home Security System

I purchased this product for my home. There have been some bags of flaming poo left on my porch. Now a bag a flaming poo is kind of funny if you are a kid with to much time on your hands, but there has also been more serious break-in activity occurring in my neighbourhood. The product just works right out of the box. The video quality is good, and the night vision works very well. I like the recording features and the alert feature that lets me know when motion is detected. When someone comes to the front door, I know they are there before the door bell rings. If it is someone I don't know, I can use the intercom feature to talk to them without opening the door. Lorex really got it right with this product. I love it, and I am already making plans to buy two additional cameras to max out the number of cameras on the system. I would recommend this system to anyone looking to add a little more security to their home. Having the camera mounted over the front porch sends a clear message, "don't mess with this house".

Nice system for the price, but a big drawback

Figuring that this whole system cost just over $300, I didn't really expect too much, despite the rave reviews. Setup, indeed, was a snap. The 2 way audio is very good - loud and crisp. The video is choppy, but will get the job done. My one HUGE disappointment has to be the range of the system. Unless the cameras are very close to the receiver, I lose signal. Even just closing an open window between the receiver and a camera will drop signal. Forget about the signal actually going through an external wall. So, I have a choice.....either keep the cameras indoors and close to the receiver, or pick up an amplifier or hi gain signal booster to try and increase the signal strength and range. BTW - there are many options out there for omnidirectional antenna boosters, so if you have this same problem don't spend $90 on Lorex's version - you can get 3 boosters elsewhere for the same cost.

Update: Spent $45 on an omni-directional antenna (half the price of the Lorex model) that works great and I bought it here @ Amazon - the "Alfa Hi-Gain Omni-Directional Outdoor 12dBi Antenna". It replaces the wimpy screw-on antenna that comes stock with the monitor. I now have each camera about 40 feet away from the new antenna on opposite sides of the house, and the signal is easily transmitted through the interior & exterior walls of my house. I finally got the system up and running perfectly with the cameras positioned where I had originally planned.

For Home Use

I purchased this unit after my wife go sick and i wanted to be able to see and speak with the kids when they were outside. Very easy to install (I have no carpenter skills and no tech ability). Literally all you do is screw in the mounts, plug in and watch. Can't be easier. I'm watching them now. I bought two extra cameras after I purchased the system. I can't say enough about how well it works. I have four pointed in all directions. I can see great detail on what is going on while sitting in comfort with my wife. I wish I would have bought this system a long time ago. I have had other systems in the past, but this is the best for price and features. I record at night and caught the neighbour’s dog (who claims his dog never gets into our garbage) and emailed him the video. Great system, get it now.

CONS: I wish the clarity was a little better, but it’s still better than my old systems and better than the web camera I used before this. Remote control could be a little easier to use. However, I am now familiar with it so I have no real issue. I don't give 5 stars unless they are well deserved. This is the first 5 star I have given.

Be prepared to work...

The cameras took forever to get here and when they did, the remote did not work. You can't record without the remote! After getting the remote and setting up the cameras I am pleased with the performance. The night time view is awesome!

Also, the broadcast frequency messes with my garage door opener. I have to hold the button for sometimes nearly a full minute to get the door to open.

All negatives overcome and aside, I like the cameras and it’s nice to know who’s coming to the door before they get here and to know what goes on around the house when I’m not home.

Range misleading

I have had is system now for 6 months. I feel this was a step down from other wireless cameras I have owned. I am glad that I did not go ahead and expand the system w/ two more cameras. I have both cameras outside in a sheltered area within fifty feet of the monitor.(had to move monitor closer) The signal does have to penetrate an outside wall but, my second camera is approximately 35' away and signal is on and off.

For the money. I felt the Linksys cameras had better range and more flexibility choosing your motion detection area of the screen as well as the sensitivity. I also liked the idea of using my computer rather than their monitor.

Please note that in an environment with many competing signals, the frame rate and range of the cameras may be reduced. Also, dense materials such as concrete, brick, fieldstone, wood, metal can impact transmission range.Try a range extender to bridge gap

Lorex Live SD9 Wireless Digital Security System LW2902

I was amazed at the quality of this system, have been looking for something like this for some time that performed well and had all the functions this system has. The audio portion allows you answer the door from anywhere in the house, just as long as you have the monitor plugged in near you. The 9 inch video screen is awesome and it give you split screens to view, you can motion record so it does not record everything thing, although it is sensitive to the wind blowing, but I would rather have over sensitive than not. You can add addition cameras which I did add one, since only two comes in the system kit. Just plug in and you're ready to go! I had to figure out where to place them out of the rain, so under the front porch, a small hole was drill thru the brick and exterior wall, good thing there is plenty of ac cord and near a plug on the inside, just caulk later. The beauty is that I can take the monitor anywhere plug in and still see, sort of nice, now I see when the mail man comes, anyone that pulls in and out of my driveway, who knocks on my door and now no kids knock and run like they have before, I wish Lorex would give more than one 3 inch warning sticker, but can't complain, so far so good.

Excellent Security Cameras

I purchased and installed the Lorex SD 9 Wireless camera and monitor system and it is working just as advertised. The picture on the monitor is very good and if you have electrical outlets for the cameras installation consists of simply attaching the cameras to a wall and plugging them in. The monitor is a nice size and easy to read when hung on the kitchen wall. Night vision is as good as or even better than the day vision. A very good buy at $319.

Works Well!

I was able to quickly setup the 2 cameras in about 10 minutes. You just have to place the cameras, and then plug them in. Also the same with the monitor. It's all "Plug and Play". I put the monitor right next to my bed. I have the cameras far away from each other and far from the monitor, yet the reception is great! No messy wires. But the color is mostly black and white and gray in the daytime. All of my trees and flowers show up gray, but when a school bus goes by, I do see the yellow. Or when my red car is parked in front of the house, it shows up as red. So I would say that its semi color. And using the remote is easy once you get the hang of it. You can do a recording of only one camera at a time, but you can monitor up to four cameras at one time on the monitor. For my purposes and the great price, there is none better, as the higher end ones are much more expensive, but there are too many cameras for me. And the 9" monitor is clear, although you can't adjust it to a perfect focus. There are also 2 views. One is a wide angle and the other is close up. you can switch between the two, but not while recording. Also the 2GB memory card that it comes with doesn't record for very long although you can adjust the card to keep overwriting the previous recording. I put a 16BG memory card that records for about 35 hours, at about 10GB at a time, so you can't watch the full 35 hour recording or a bit shorter, but you can in segments, which is timed and dated, but in 24 hour time only. Overall for my needs and cost well worth it.

Works very well

I've had this system for a month now and I have to say I'm pretty pleased with it so far. I made a couple of changes; 1) Bought a 16GB SD card and have it set to record when we're not at home. I have a weeks worth of recording on it and it hasn't overwritten the old stuff yet. 2) Instead of mounting it with the supplied brackets, I found some small tripods at Wal-Mart for $14 each and mounting screws (metric) at Lowes. Now I can move the cameras around to any location I want; close to windows to monitor activity outside the house (so as not expose the cameras to weather) or up high on furniture for inside viewing.

The infrared is amazing. I can keep an eye on the cat in pitch dark! Now I see as well at night as he does. The monitor picture is good in either mode. During the day in color and at night the infrared is much like watching a black and white movie, but you can see 'hot spots' on reflective surfaces.

The intercom is a nice feature. Beats hollering up and down the steps. Overall, really nice for the money. By the way, I saved about $80 buying on Amazon! Did I mention it has a remote?

There's probably more this system can do, but I haven't completely read the manual yet. Hope folks find this helpful.

Excellent Home Video Security System!

After reading many reviews, I selected the Lorex LW2902 unit. It has a 9" monitor vs. the 7" inch on the 2702 model. I'm glad I got the 9" unit. Easier to view. Unit works very well. Both Cameras are outside protected by roof overhang and have survived several windy rainstorms without difficulty. Full signal bars in house through brick wall etc. Night vision works better than I expected. Night Video quality almost equals daytime quality. Intercom & motion detection works very well also. I love the camera. Easy to set up and easy to use. The cards hold more videos then I thought they would. I do wish you had an option to tape for more then 30 second with motion recording but you do have a choice of continuous record or scheduled record which is nice. I don’t know how long the card would last for that. Never tried it. We do lose signal sometimes which is annoying but for the most part the camera is working very good. It does just what you expect

This product has stood up to my expectations. All items came in the box packed nicely and sealed in plastic. The cameras came programed already to connect wirelessly to the monitor, I didn't need to sync them, which saved on a lot of time and possible headache. The power cord that comes with the cameras is about 4-5 feet, and it needs to be plugged in for the cameras to work, so keep that in mind (an outlet needs to be close). The remote is simple, nothing special about it.

The monitor is really sleek and functional. You can view each camera on the whole screen or you can have the screen slit into four boxes that allows you to see all of the cameras. The picture quality is pretty good, for this product. Don't get me wrong, it's not HD or some crisp digital display, but is clear enough for you to know what you're looking at without second guessing. Also you can turn the volume up on the monitor, if you want to hear what's going on. The sound came through really good, and it was not choppy.

The night vision on the cameras is great, although at night time the camera appears to have a red glow around it. At first I though it was the IR, but then I recalled the IR is invisible to the naked eye. It's nothing to complain about, but something to just know, in case you're looking for stealth. The cameras are stationary and can't move electronically, but you can move it around manually. They come with the screws you need to mount them, and the install is pretty simple. Probably took me half hour to get everything up and running.

I recommend this for residential homes, and small businesses.

NOT BAD AT ALL

We purchased this unit to replace an old camera and monitor for our foaling barn (where horses have their babies). It went up real easy, started work instantly when plugged in. My husband turned off the lights at barn that night and the night vision was great. The barn is metal, but cameras do not have to send signal through any metal walls, just the walls/windows of our house, there is a pretty clear shot to the monitor in my house, about 100' away. I did have the video feed through my TV for a while just to see if I could do it, but the monitor is good. I just have it rotate from one camera position to the other. Once in awhile it says looking for signal, but generally pops right back on. Worth the money. Also I can hear what is going on in the barn.

Lorex LIVE SD9 LW2902 Wireless Digital Security System

So far I am pleased with my purchase. All the parts were included, also there was a quick start guide that was very clear and helped me set up the cameras. Everything seems to be working fine so far. It was very easy to set up.

This set was bought to monitor the area around my garage in the back yard and both cameras are able to transmit the distances that were advertised. One of the cameras is a good 350-400 feet away and the signal is still coming in strong to a room at the other side of our home.

A bonus was the audio portion of this camera system. (My other half might not think so). While we were deciding where we would point the camera I was able to watch the monitor inside the house where it would be set up and could direct him to raise, lower or turn the camera one way or the other for the best view. We will also be able to contact each other via the intercom system in the future should we need to.

We were looking at the cheaper model that did not transmit a live picture but this set went on sale during the holidays for just a little more money and we were able to get free shipping too. I like that we can use a SD card because with an older system that we had it was difficult to download and make a copy of a video that captured someone roaming around in our back yard one evening. With the SD card I can print out the best shot on my printer to show the neighbours and the police.

Barring any problems down the road and any difficulties with customer service like the other reviewer made comment about I would recommend this system to my friends.
