I like the camera hardware, however the software is from 90 and a way below my expectations. I installed two of these cameras outside my house 10 months ago and so far they work well. I really like that they could record to a local micro SD card as well as NAS storage. What I don't like is the field of view. If you plan to monitor who is in front of your door with this camera, you rather get another one with better field of view. The app for Mac and iOS is from late 90. My house is equipped with Ring door bell and there software is awesome. I wish Lorex hire professional people that will create a modern decent app.

I purchase the wireless cameras not for security reasons, but to watch the wildlife outside our North Carolina seasonal vacation mountain home. What a great product. Now I can see the snow in the winter and the bears, deer, wild turkey and the rest of the wild. This product was easy to install and produces great pictures. It is nice to be able to see what is going on at your second home while you are back in Florida at your primary residence.

Limited field of view. Though it says IP65 rating for weather, they tell you only to put it under a sheltered location. So if you put it out a window, the night view will be washed out by the infrared image from the window reflection. Other then that OK.........

I have many years experience in physical security (29) and found this system acceptable for external home use. I would try several temporary set ups for at least 24 hours before permanent installation of cameras and receiver (or consider an antenna range extender). I would only use hard wire cameras for inside the home, wireless is always susceptible to hacking no matter how well your encryption. Also try the antenna set up off the receiver in different configuration settings. If you are going to "paint" a window for alarms, nighttime activity inside the house may set off the alarm function (check your sensitivity settings). I was not able to get the email notification function to work. Disappointing somewhat but for what I paid compared to hundreds of systems I have inspected it was a good deal. The ability to remote view cameras from my smart phone was a key factor in buying this system which works fairly well. Always remember the more layers (cameras, door/window contacts, motion detectors, big dog etc...)of security applications you use the more secure your assets.

I had the same issues as "actual user" review. I solved the problem by purchasing a wifi range extender with a Ethernet plug in. This can be purchased at Wal-mart, Best Buy, Radio Shack for about 30 dollars. I placed the extender next to camera and wired the camera to the extender. It work great! no further issues.

This system had all the features I wanted and acceptable snapshot and videos. However, after 6 service tickets and 3 remote logins for tech help for record and playback problems on cell phone, Mac and PC computers, the problems could not be resolved. Took 4 to 10 days for tech help ticket reply; it was frustrating as I was running out of time to return the product. I returned this after a 60 day struggle with no resolution to the otherwise good system if it would work.

I bought this to see what was wandering past outside (animals). I got this particular model for the power over ethernet capability - I don't want to run a circuit just for the camera if possible. It was really easy to set up. I'm using wired ethernet. I put the power module in my network box about 40 feet from the camera. I used the iPhone Lorex Ping app to set the camera up and it just worked great. I even moved it from one subnet to another and the Ping app picked the camera up again without my having to do anything. I will say the Ping apps are not really the same. The iPhone version seems pretty good but its missing a few things. I can't find a way to play back video from the microSD card in the camera. However the iPad version does do this. The iPad version is a bit flaky though. It locks up now and again. Also the iPad Ping seems to send me alerts but the iPhone Ping does not. The iPad also doesn't refresh the screen correctly so I see a distorted video. (I'm on iPad model 3 and iPhone 5s) The iPhone version and the Mac version don't have this issue. To set the admin password (very important in my book) I had to use the Mac L-view app and the camera's web interface. One note on the mac version of the software - for some reason the mac's security rejected the app's maker and I had to go into security and override the "don't let this app run" so I could use it. Overall I'm satisfied with it and I'll probably buy another one at some point. (point of view: my ethernet/tcp/wifi skill is pretty high)

Got this camera last week and so far it has met all of my expectations. Extremely easy to set up. I had purchased two other cameras last year and have been very pleased with Lorex support so I am expanding my system. Easy to view over Wi-Fi.

Location: Redding, California

Purchased due to recent thefts and attempted burglary:

The Good: Fairly easy to set up in about 15 minutes, quality day and night images, appears sturdy

The Bad: Make sure unit is fairly easy to get to after installation as problems requiring you to reset unit/reconnecting to wi-fi may require you to open the unit and press the WPS or Reset switch.

The Ugly: I had to unhook the 2nd unit as the wi-fi went bad and would only work with a wired internet connection. I had to uninstall the camera and spent considerable amount of time putting up/taking down the unit using ladder. I will need to return the 2nd unit.
