Bought this item at costco at 10/2014, till now (August 2016) the DVR got burn twice already.
Warranty was for one year - i am looking for a different DVR at the moment.

Another thing.. Customer service is so bad that you get a waiting estimate time of 30 min', after almost 2 hours I hang up !!
I opened a request for a call back and an online ticket - that was a week ago - No one return my call!!

This is a very nice system. Initial installation was quick and on-site viewing of cameras was easy. Remote viewing with the Flir app was easy to set up and quality of picture is excellent. However, access was sporadic. A call to tech support identified the issue as the dynamic IP address used by my router. A switch to DDNS driven remote access seems to have resolved that issue and access now is consistent. I initially set up the system to record continuously, anticipating the oldest files on the DVR would be overwritten when it reached its capacity limit. However, that was not the case. I had to wipe the drive and start over again. I have since reconfigured the system to record on motion detection only. That has dramatically extended the time between hard drive wipes.

This unit even with my limited skills was easy to set up and get remote viewing activated, it has worked faultless ever since it was installed with only one small glitch causing remote viewing to fail, this was easily fixed by a simple reboot and was probably caused by a temporary power outage rather than a fault with the product.
The images are first class for a relatively inexpensive system.
I would certainly recommend this product to anyone especially those like me that want a simple but effective set up.

Really good little unit and install was a breeze. Viewing on mobile devices is again an easy set up and easy to use. The DDNS viewing is a little more complicated and still working on that part, but for the most we love it, and we will probably be moving up to a 16 camera unit next. We thought 8 was lots, but when you start putting them around the house, and out to the barn, 8 cameras get used up pretty fast.

I recently upgraded my Android OS and I could not view them anymore. One call to the Lorex team and it was fixed. Good support.

The LVH1000 DVR is a decent surveillance system with 720p cameras that produce a noticeably sharper picture than the competitors. However, long-term use requires changing out the fans to avoid a dead fan, as our unit had a fan seize and the boards haven't been engineered to power down when they're overheating and just die. Also, 2 out of 7 cameras have died from outdoor use within a year, so a bit of QA and design improvements would make this a better system. The remote app works well once it's setup correctly, but interface seriously needs a non-technical designer as it is EXTREMELY confusing with no labels and just icons - clearly it was designed by a nerd programmer, for a nerd programmer.

I have purchased a 720P DVR with 8 cameras, in order to replace a DVR which broke 16 months after installation (out of warranty). Reason I bought it again, is not install new cameras, (the existing ones are working just fine) and get some spare cameras. Therefore I can’t comment on cameras part of this package. In old package I had to replace 2 due to malfunctions.
The new DVR programming was easy and strait forward, considering that I was benefiting from experience with the old one.
Also the FLIR Cloud did work on my android phone (never worked with old DVR) and I was able to see all cameras, events, etc.
However, the question of damaged DVR on overheating remains unanswered by LOREX. I have opened a ticket for broken DVR in order to obtain an answer to the simple question: How is the DVR protected on CPU fan malfunction or out of range (+ 40C) operating temperature. At the time of this review LOREX technicians were not able to answer. One can conclude that low end 5V/2wire (approx. $5) CPU cooling fan, used by LOREX, will not be sufficient to protect DVR form failure and be able to communicate with the system when the fan is damaged electrically or mechanically (mine was frozen solid). My personal conclusion is that DVR will not shutdown on overheating from mechanical fan failure or high ambient temperature and will continue working until irreversible damage occurs. Hopefully FLIR/LOREX will revise the design to include 3 wire CPU fan and adequate OH protection circuitry
I will not recommend this specific unit.

I purchased this system I order to expand my q-see 8 channel 2TB system into a 16 channel system. Changeover Installation was very easy as I was able to just unplug the cables from the Q-see Dvr and directly into the Lorex dvr and the system software is similar. I am a little dissappoined in the camera resolution as compared to the 720 cameras from q-see. I will check to see if I can adjust the resolution. I highly recommend purchasing from Costco as you receive their free conscierge technical services for configuration and troubleshooting issues. This is an excellent product for the price. Remote access is also an excellent feature.

It's been a while now and it still work perfecly. The imagequality is excellent. The only thing negative is that at night you have a very limited distance qhen its too dark, but when ther is some street light it is good...

I bought this 720p DVR, 8 camera system. For the most part it's fine. On the other hand it doesn't have a good record with me. The 1TB drive failed in less than a year. The 2nd DVR had a camera port go bad within about 2 months. In my opinion I would not buy this again. Not enough of a warranty out of box. I mean what does a DVR do? Sits on a wall, never moves and get too hot. Needs better fan speed adjustment. Longer warranty. Better drive, and larger area to screw camera cables to back of DVR. No room to get fingers in and screw the cables in place. Needed a special tool. Need longer cords for cameras as well.

I purchased my system at Costco and installed it about four months after purchase. One year and three months after purchase the hard drive failed. I called for support and they ran a few test and said it was out of warranty so there is nothing they can do. The warranty is only 12 months from purchase. Think about that when you are spending hours running wires through your attic to a camera system that after a year there is no support.

Purchased unit from Costco at a good price. Video image is good. Installation of cameras is fairly easy, although I would like more flexibility in the camera's positioning adjustment options once it's been screwed down. The adjustments are fairly limited. The Flir Cloud application is great once up and running. Customer service support is top notch, I highly recommend you contacting them for any assistance in setting the DVR up. The mobile application is good as well. In hind sight, I wish I would have purchased 1080p cameras, but can always upgrade. Overall, happy with purchase.

I am on my third replacement (warranty) unit and now I am having issues with the PC connectivity and have never been able to connect my Smartphone with the last two units. I really don't recommend Lorex as it is virtually impossible to get the results without calling them and spending an hour or more on the phone.

First of all for $499.00 was was amazed at the quality. I learned a lot on this system and even though it met our needs I realize that 8 cameras just aren't enough to cover angles around the exterior of your house for really good coverage. My fault. The 1 TB hard drive is not near enough for 8 cameras to run on motion detection to get 1 month or recording (like I was told) before it begins to re-write. I actually get 3-4 days. Really sad. NEEDS much bigger hard drive! One of the cameras was bad right out of the box and it took about 10 days to get a replacement. That was annoying. Oh, one for thing the 60 ft cables just are not long enough. I had to go the Frys and purchase 100 ft cables. They should come standard. So unless you place the DVR in the center of your house the 60 ft cables probably won't reach to all the cameras. Now that I have had this system installed and working I also realize the playback is really really time consuming to find and event. You basically have to scan through until you find the time you want to look at. With all these issues overall it is an good system, but now the fan has gone out. Sounds like it is eating itself. Past warranty of course so no help from LOREX even though it is less than 2 years old. Ugh! Next time I am going 1080p, 16 channel, video zoom, IR of course (this one was) and at least 4 TB. BNut the price was affordable. This is a good economy system.

My initial DVR LHV100800 was purchased from Costco with 8 cameras. Just about 1 1/2 years old and the DVR quit working- no power light, nothing. I just purchased a replacement DVR DV708-D from Onpoint Survellance. Pleased with the features and easy set up - hope this one last longer. Gets kinda pricy at $330.00 a pop for only 18 months. Would rate at 4 or 5 stars if unit lasted longer. We'll see how long this unit lasts.

I bought the 8 camera system at Costco. Only 5 of the cameras actually work. Costco refuses to replace them stating that their code on the system has changed ( even though it is the exact same system). So I am left with half a security system--great !
Please contact me to verify this sale and replace the cameras please. But from the cameras that do work, this a great system!

I couldn't believe how easy the networking was, because with my old system you had to configure port forwarding, etc. This Lorex was accessible on the network in no time at all. The system works very well. Used RG-6 cable for about 150' runs for cameras. The video quality is very good. I am very pleased with the product.
I ordered a 1TB 6 camera system but received a 2TB 4 camera system. I filed a ticket on the mistake and it was cancelled a few days later. I tried to file another claim but was not able to, so I just dropped it. I did want to use 5 cameras though.

Al inicio, para poder ver las imágenes de las cámaras en la pantalla de la TV fue bastante complicado porque la resolución de salida del DVR por defecto es más alta que lo que soporta mi TV, por lo tanto, sugiero que anexen instrucciones exactas sobre la instalación del producto.

Works well but the sound of the fan is annoying. I have it plugged into my TV and can hear the fan when watching TV. It's even worse when the TV is off and all you hear is the fan. I made a ticket but after a couple weeks I have not heard back from anyone.

We've only had this system up and running for a few weeks now, but overall, it's pretty descent. To install all the wiring correctly was a pain (I wanted it done neatly, like I'm sure you would too). Keep in mind that these cams on come with 60' of wiring for each cam, so if you need longer wires than that, you'll have to pay and have them shipped to you, or you could easily go to your local Best Buy store and get them quickly and much cheaper. Be careful when placing the wiring because if they get tangled at all, wrapped up, or anything other than straight lines, it can and DID cause me problems with fuzzy video and loud auditory noise. Also, if you're thinking of paying someone else to install this for you, good luck finding someone. It'll cost more to install than the system cost you (To do it right) I'm still trying to get the hang of created "Events" which will send me notifications, and adding other users has not been easy. Tech support was USELESS in helping me with issues so far. Don't waste your time on tech support, like I did. :-(

Other than that, it is working. The video doesn't look bad. The night vision does work, but pretty much only in a straight line of view. (FLIR = Forward Line IR) << I see why it's called that now. Not everything you can see in daylight will be visible at night, unless it's in a direct line with the cam.

Software initial installation was easy. Connected first phone was a breeze. After that it can get difficult. To install FLIR, you better know how to get to your MAC address (Easy to do. If you don't know how, search You Tube for this info)

Along with our great ADT/BRINKS home alarm system, also protected by the 2nd amendment ... My wife and I feel pretty safe from would-be robbers or thieves. Put a sign in your yard too to ward off criminals, it WILL make them think twice and avoid your house or business. You can get cheaper signs online, at Lowes, and at Menards.

Overall descent cam system for the money it cost. Plan on doing all wiring and installation yourself, or PAY out the nose, if you can even find someone to do it right. (Make sure you create a contract with them to install it correctly too)

I initially wrote a review stating I was satisfied, I looked for an edit button because it's been about 90 days and it's falling apart on me. The fan stopped working and now my cameras aren't working either. I've started a "ticket" with Lorex in attempt for a replacement or some sort of trouble shoot, but there has been absolutely no response. They asked me to submit a proof of purchase and promised me a response in about 5 business days, they didn't respond within 5 business days..they called me weeks ago, and while i was driving. They promised to try me again and still no phone call. i'm returning this product to costco. thank god for costco's wonderful return policy.

I was impressed with this DVR and its firmware/software control. Far superior than my old Q-SEE system. My only issue is that I have requested technical support twice now with no response other than someone will be contacting me. My issue was that the flir shortcut (APP) demands my windows 7 admin to run each time its executed. It should not ask this each time. A standard account on my pc should be able to run it. We are now going on DAY 10. Still no answer. I have contacted Costco to return my system. I will be boxing it up today for return. Five stars it would have but the support is incredibly none existent. This is not acceptable!

I do not regret this purchase at all. Although the cameras are plastic and not aluminum (my dad's q-see cameras are aluminum and seem a bit more durable), you cant really beat the price that i got it for. The cables are a bit short, my house is not that big and i am having trouble reaching the cameras from one end of the house to the DVR which is in the middle of my house. Other than that, I am quite satisfied with my purchase.

I've had this system for 4 months now , it works great. no real complaints but be careful when tighting screws for camera heads , they are only made of plastic. I cracked one installing it when I first got the system , still works fine. also sometimes you have a ip conflict which i just restart the system. I do like how well it works at night and during the daytime. I am moving my cameras today (just 2 cameras) and needed info from lorex and did not see my earlier review so I posted this one. I can only say it's been working fine.

A very solid 4 of 5 rating. A 5 of 5 is hard for me to give to any solution. Let me start by saying/typing -- "You get what you pay for".. 8 cameras, HD system with IP connectivity, support on PC/Mac/Mobile. Works!! Do your homework online before you make your choice for a *home* based system as per your requirements., Would be nice to have longer cables (see note below about planning).

Plan to download the manual and any firrmware/software. Plan your installation, from where cameras will go, how cables will run (length of cable runs needed), to where the DVR will ultimately be installed. The software client (and yes, there is a web interface too, only for MS IE), is a bit "interesting" from a GUI (Graphical User Interface) perspective -- not totally intuitive. However, very serviceable once you move around within the interface.

I did not need to use technical support, granted my profession is in the IT world. I can see how some people might have a difficult time with the network setup, but don't blame this product -- consider getting some basic networking 101 skills on IP routing, port forwarding, etc. or get someone that does know IP configurations for your particular hardware (I have an ASUS router). I even configured this solution to connect to an AP (access point) that is configured to be a point to point IP device for the DVR -- allowed me to connect the DVR wirelessly (Ethernet port of DVR connected into the AP, securely connected back to my network. I did this because the location of where I installed the DVR does not have a wired Cat 5 Ethernet connectivity).

Installed and worked with both the PC Windows and Apple Mavericks version of the software client and was able to install the mobile client on both an Android Samsung and iOS (Apple) and configure successfully. So, yes it does work behind a firewall, DDNS does work, mobile client works, night vision works fine, mobile client works fine -- NOTE: see note above about "you get what you pay for...", IMHO.

Have not configured motion detect recording yet as I will wait for sprint/summer when all trees have leaves as I am assuming wind and leaves/branches will impact settings.

Overall, very decent solution for me and my family thus far.

Bought these cameras from Costco. Here's my feedback

Pros:
Cheap
Functions very well in day light
Comes with 1TB hard disk space.

Cons:
Software setup is super complex
Cables length should have been atleast 90 feet.
Motion sensors are a joke. It has an option to set zones but they don't work.
Sub-streaming on mobile devices is horrible quality.
Night vision is bad.
DDNS doesn't work.
Client software doesnt work behind a firewall. No proxy options available
Client software cannot recognize DHCP changes.

Update on my last review, About the customer service, I found it AWESOME, i had an issue i explained on my last post on one of the cables not sending or receiving , well just generally not working at all, i entered a service ticket, it was reviewed within 2 days, i had gotten a reply that they were sending out a replacement cable at no charge, within 4 days, UPS was banging on my door with a new cable all nicely packaged, SO as for my Review posted earlier , Please update it as necessary , The customer service is great, no questions asked as is the camera , Im still loving it Merry Christmas

The LHV1000 series has so far been a pleasure to use. The interface takes a little bit of getting used to , but after you get the hang of it, it works great. Picture quality is beautiful. Day or night, the resolution is just about perfect , a little grainy at times but nothing I wouldn't worry about , The zoom feature is awesome, it can read my license plate on my car to a readable zoom level at close to 100 ft from the house, day or night. The flir cloud interface works beautifully, I installed the app on my I phone and it took all of about 2 minutes to get up and running, It actually took longer to download the app than it did to link to it. You don't really need to be a tech savvy person in order to install the system, just be prepared to spend a little time on it is all. There is one con though, Not really a con but more of a caution, when you are ready to install, test all the cameras out before you install and all the individual cables, i made that mistake, tested all the cameras on one cable and went to install , got to camera 7 and discovered a faulty cable. not funny at all. My fault though , I can not comment on their customer service as of yet as I just submitted a warranty ticket an hour ago, but will update when i get feedback from customer support. Overall, fairly easy to install, great video, and a definitely an asset to any homeowner looking to protect his property as well as the business customers. You would be happy with this system, I am

This DVR is easy to set up. Remote viewing is also very simple Just scan the IR code with your smart phone and bam done. The picture output is very clear compared to past lorex models. My only gripe about this DVR is the face that the fan on the DVR unit itself is very loud. It is louder than my desktop PC. The fan on this thing reminds me of a hairdryer on its lowest setting! My ceiling fan on its highest setting is not 1/3 as loud as this thing. I highly recommend placing the DVR is a cabinet or DVR safe to cut the noise down. Do not place it in the bedroom it will drive you nuts!

I bought this this system at Costco and is working fine so far. The iCloud app works some times and some times it does not. The only thing I been having problem is setting up the time and date. I keep changing the date and time but the next day is the wrong time and date again. I had a See Q system before and was able to use the same cables so installation was easy. For the price you can't complain much,if you want a state of the art system you will have to spend more money.
