Q: Why is the NVR beeping after powering on?

A: As a security measure, the NVR will beep after powering on if a camera is not detected on every available channel.

To disable the beeping:

  1. Once the NVR finishes the startup sequence, right-click and select Disable Beep.

  2. Click Yes.

Q: Why is the channel changing when I select a channel in full screen?

A: The system is set for sequence mode by default. In sequence mode, the NVR will automatically change channels every few seconds. Follow the steps below to turn off sequence mode.

To turn off sequence mode:

  • During live viewing, right-click and select Stop SEQ.

Q: What ports are used to connect to the system remotely?

A: You must port forward the HTTP, Client, and Mobile ports (default 80, 1025, and 8000) to connect to the system remotely. In the netHD Client Software or the smartphone and tablet apps, enter the Client Port (default 8000) when prompted.

For information on port forwarding, please see:

Q: Is there a client software available for Mac?

A: Yes, the Lorex netHD Client software is also available for Mac. To navigate the software, use the same instructions in the Instruction Manual and Quick Start Guide as the PC software.

The only difference from the PC version is that you must right-click on a channel to access the toolbar controls in the Main View, Event Search, and Remote Playback menus.

Q: Why am I receiving an "Insufficient Memory" error when connecting with my iPhone® or iPad®?

A: This message is displayed if your device does not have enough memory (RAM) available to open all the channels you are connecting to.

This is usually because you are running other applications on the device. You can close apps that are running in the background using the steps below to increase the amount of memory available.

To close background apps:

  1. Press two times.
  2. Press and hold on one of the apps to bring up the delete button.

  3. Press to delete.

NOTE: If you are still receiving the error message, try only connecting to one camera at a time.

Q: How do I select 1080P resolution on the monitor?

A: Although the NVR is set to record and display all connected cameras at 1080P (1920x1080) resolution, the default monitor resolution is set at 1024x768 for compatibility with all computer monitors and TV's. You may adjust the output resolution up to 1080P.

To select 1080P output to the monitor:

  1. Right-click and click Menu>Configuration.
  2. Under Resolution, select 1920*1080/60Hz (1080P).

  3. Click Apply to save changes. The resolution will update. Click OK to confirm.

NOTE: If you do not click OK within 15 seconds, the resolution will reset to the previously selected setting.

Q: Is the fan sound normal?

A: Yes, the NVR is a high power device that includes an internal Power over Ethernet (PoE) power supply for the connected cameras. The volume level of the fan is 50dB from a distance of 3ft. This is about the same as the sound given off by a home appliance such as a refrigerator. The fan operation is necessary to maintain the reliability of the system. It is recommended to consider that the NVR and fan will need to operate at all times when selecting a location to install the NVR.

Q: What is the default user name and password for the NVR?

A: The NVR has the same default password for local access (accessing menus on the system) and remote access (accessing the video over the Internet or a LAN).

The default password is:

User Name Password
admin 000000

It is essential to enable passwords on your system and create your own passwords to ensure that unauthorized people cannot gain access to your system. See below for details on how to change the default passwords.

To enable passwords for local system access:

  1. Right-click and click Menu.

  2. Click Configuration.

  3. Check Enable Password.

  4. Click Apply.

To change the password:

  1. Right-click and click Menu.

  2. Click Configuration > User.

  3. Click Edit tag next to admin.

  4. Under Old Password, enter the current admin password (default: 000000).

  5. Check Change Password.

  6. Under Password and Confirm, enter the new admin password.

  7. Click OK to save changes. Right-click repeatedly to return to live viewing.

Q: Why don't I see video on the monitor after connecting my camera to the NVR?

A: Unlike analog security cameras, IP cameras must complete a startup process before they can transmit video to the NVR. This startup process usually takes under a minute. Once the startup process is complete, the NVR automatically detects the cameras with no configuration required.

Q: Is audio recording supported on the system?

A: No, the NVR does not support audio recording.

Q: Can I use other brands of IP cameras with the NVR?

A: No, the NVR is designed to work with Lorex PoE (Power over Ethernet) IP cameras (such as LNB2151 and LND2152) only. Lorex does not support connecting other brands of IP cameras to the NVR.

The Lorex LNC100 Series LIVE Ping and Vantage Stream IP cameras are not compatible with the NVR.

Q: Can I use longer extension cables for my IP cameras?

A: Yes, you can use CAT 5e or higher grade Ethernet cables to extend the cameras up to 300ft (100m) from the NVR. To connect Ethernet cables to each other, use an RJ45 female-to-female coupler (not included) or network switch (not included).

Q: Can I connect the IP cameras to my local network?

A: No, the IP cameras are designed to connect to the NVR via the built-in PoE ports. This enables them to be automatically detected and recorded by the NVR once connected. Lorex does not support connecting the IP cameras to the local network or viewing video from the IP cameras except via the NVR.
