Viewing your camera remotely using the Skype app from the Windows Store

You can now connect to your Lorex system with Skype remote viewing using the Skype app from the Windows Store. You must download the latest driver for PC for Lorex systems that use Skype for remote viewing. The new driver allows you to connect to your cameras using the Skype app from the Windows Store as well as Skype for desktop.

Use the following procedure to install the latest driver and setup remote access using the Windows Store Skype app.

NOTE: Windows RT and Windows phone devices are not supported at this time.

Step 1 of 6: Installing the USB driver

NOTE: It is necessary that you download the latest driver to connect to your camera using the Windows Store Skype app. Previous drivers for PC are only compatible with Skype for desktop.

  1. Determine whether your computer system type is 32-bit or 64-bit:
    1. Press Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows Explorer.
    2. Right-click Computer on the left-side panel in Windows Explorer.

    3. Click Properties.

    4. Under System, check the System type. The system type description will specify whether your system is 32-bit or 64-bit.

  2. Download the USB driver for PC from the Downloads tab (click here).
  3. Double-click the .zip file to extract the contents.
  4. Open the extracted folder and double-click dpinstX86 if you have a 32-bit system or dpinstX64 for 64-bit. Follow the on-screen instructions to install.

Step 2 of 6: Connecting the video monitor to the PC

NOTE: Pair the camera that is most important for you to view remotely to Channel 1. For instructions on how to pair cameras, please refer to the user's manual provided with your system.

  1. Turn on the camera first, then the video monitor. Make sure you can see a video image on channel 1.
  2. Connect the mini-USB cable included with your system to your video monitor and into the computer's USB port. The video monitor displays the following: "USB PC CAMERA MODE".

Step 3 of 6: Creating a Skype / Microsoft account for the camera

You must have two Microsoft accounts to access your camera: your personal Microsoft account (for running the Skype app) and one for the camera. When setting up remote access to your camera, you will use the Microsoft account created for your camera, not your personal account. This section assumes you already have a personal Microsoft account.

  1. Launch Skype. If you are connected to Skype already, click the profile icon (Profile icon) then click Sign Out.

    NOTE: You may see the following screen when you launch the Skype app depending on your version of Windows 8. If this screen appears, click Sign into each app separately instead.

  2. From the Skype login window, click Sign up for a Microsoft Account.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new account for your camera and log in.

Step 4 of 6: Configuring Skype

  1. Move the mouse pointer to the upper-right corner of your computer's monitor OR touch the right corner of the screen and swipe left (touch screen systems only). The charms will appear along the right-hand side of the monitor.

  2. Click the Settings icon (Settings charm).

  3. Click Options.

  4. Check if you can see live video from your system. Video from your camera is shown next to the Camera entry.

    NOTE: If you can see an image from a webcam that is already connected to your computer, select Digital Video Monitor from the drop-down menu.

  5. Configure the following:
    • Under Who can call you?, select Only my contacts. This will prevent the camera from accepting calls from anyone who is not in the contact list for its account.

  6. Left-click outside the settings panel to save your changes.

Step 5 of 6: Send a contact request

Next, you have to send a contact request from the camera's account to your personal account.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the Skype window. Two menus will appear on the top and bottom of the screen.
  2. Click the Add Contact button (Add contact button) on the bottom of the screen. A search bar appears.

  4. Double-click on your profile and click the Add to Contacts button (Add to Contacts button).
  5. The Contact Request dialog box appears. Click the Send button (Send button).

Step 6 of 6: Test the connection

NOTE: This step requires you to log in to Skype from a different computer or compatible mobile device.

  1. Log in to the Skype app using your personal Microsoft account (enter the e-mail address and password for your Microsoft account).
  2. A contact request from the camera's account appears. Click on the request.

  3. Click the Accept button (Accept button).
  4. Click the Call button (Call button).

    The video call begins automatically. Please allow around 15 to 25 seconds for the video connection to be established.

    NOTE: Video may appear pixelated immediately after connecting. It should improve within a few seconds, depending on your Internet connection.
