Out of the box everything worked great. After about a month of use, I noticed the DVR was displaying an error message with the hard drive. After two weeks the unit completely died. Lorex customer service was very quick to offer a replacement. There was no haggling with customer service to replace the unit. I am currently waiting for the new unit to arrive. Will update the review then! Overall I am very satisfied with the camera system and I understand that every once in a while there may be a lemon. However, the customer service departments willingness to help was excellent.

Best Value Out there for Surveillance System!

This system has the best value out there I have seen for what you get. I had my system installed and up in running in no time with no extra hardware needed! Hard to find a system out there that's this complete. The tech support was very friendly and I was able to view my cameras online in 1/2 with their help!

Great Affordable system!

Don't wait

Purchased on line. Took about 6 hours to install 6 cameras and set up the dvr. Very simple to do. Great step by step instructions. Camera quality is best I've seen for the money. Already caught my neighbor doing vandalism to my property. Great ease of mind having an unbiased set of eyes on your side.

Works great!

This system does everything it says it does. Great camera quality, straight-forward installation, basically plug n play. The network setup worked right away, but really understanding how to connect remotely took a little more thought, but totally a do-it-yourselfer's job. Very happy with this product. Best quality for the $ that I found, and I looked extensively.

LH016H-16ch, 8 camera Wired-Series

The DVR unit is very quiet. It does not have a "fan" like the competitors (Swann and QC). Following the manual, configuring the Lorex DDNS was straight forward allowing us to view our cameras from the web. The outdoor bullet cameras are 600TVL and rated at 60 ft in total darkness. With 8 cameras, we can cover the complete exterior of our house. This provides great "piece of mind" to view who is knocking on the door before opening it. A nice feature of the motion detection is when one cameral detects motion, you can configure the other cameras to start recording at the same time or just the single camera that detected motion. We purchased the ECO BlackBox Surveillance DVR system with outdoor cameras from Costco. This bundled unit from Costco costs less than the 16 channel DVR (without cameras) from Fry's Electronics. Overall, I give "two thumbs up" for this unit. The unit is affordable, provides clear pictures, and comes with free Lorex DDNS for internet viewing.

OK

It's a bit hard to see some of the book illustrations and refers you back and forth. Will have to call on the internet and DDNS as I can access it on LAN and everything looks GREAT but not Internet yet. Wish I could link my old camera's to it or additional cameras were less expensive. But over all is meeting my needs

Good system for the price

For the price of the system it is a decent system. The cameras could be better, but you can still identify people when necessary if you place the cameras in the proper spots which takes a little figuring out.

I have recently purchase the Lorex Eco 2 16 security system for my business. I' m extremely satisfied with my recent purchase due to it was very quick and easy to assemble. Visual on the system is very clear and accurate plus I think that price wise it's very fair and affordable. I have not inquired any problems with the system since the purchase which satisfies me, with no doubt i would definitely recommend this product to other businesses.

Must Buy!!!!

These security cameras were the best purchase I have made for my home. Not only do I feel safe having the cameras but I can also watch my dogs when I am not home because I mounted a camera in the back yard. These cameras are a must for any home but especially any pet lover who wants to know what their pet does during the day.

I'm head of security for a chain of halfway houses and an internet cafe chain. After 3 months, the hard drive broke on one of these. Technical support had me on hold for half an hour until I was hung up on. Tech Support hours are inconveinient, and it's going to take over a week to get a replacement. Try to use alternatives if possible. Most companies do advanced placement. If you're going to spend $500 on a DVR, make sure it's reliable.

The Best system every bought

Pros: image is very good., cable is very long very thick., the housing is very durable.

Cons: could not get preset to work., would be better if give more range on focusing.

"I bought this camera with the 12 bullets cameras kit, and ECO2 DVR. Lorex PTZ cameras is awesome. The Pan fuction is super fast, and you can adjust the speed to your desire. The Image is very good when I recorded in D1 resolution. I mounted it 20ft high, and the image is very good. However, I still could not get the preset to work yet. If I can get preset or automatic Pan function to work, I can see my whole yard. Will try again later, or will call customer service."

First system

This is my first home camera system. It was easy to install and set up. It comes with everything you need. I have worked with other expensive systems at work that do not have the picture quality that this system has. Highly recommend this system for work or home it works perfect. I love that I can view it from anywhere. Already looking at adding on to my system with more cameras!!

16 Ch DVR

This is my 2nd Lorex camera system. I initially had an 8 cam system but upgraded to 16 cams for more coverage. The things I love about my Lorex system are: The remote viewing, my wife or I can check on our house, kids, sitter, or just monitor the house from our IPhones, iPads, or computers while away from or at the house. And we have several TVs in the house to monitor our cameras. The Tech Support at Lorex is great, any time I have called with setup or technical problems, they take the time to get me working properly. What I do not like: The Lorex system is difficult to use beyond a few basic functions. The manual is big but not simple. I cannot figure out how to go back in time to watch recorded events. It would take a forensics team from CSI if we ever needed to "go back in time". The fan on my Eco DVR is loud, like when a computer is working hard and all of its fans kick on.

Great upgrade

I purchased the Loxex Eco 16 channel, 8 camera security system to replace my 11 year old security system. What an improvement. Day Picture quality is superior along with you now can see anyone approaching the house at night. One of the best feature is the ability to receive an emailed picture of anyone coming to the house, something my old system lacked. The equipment worked fabulously and when I ran into trouble manually port forwarding my router, support was right there to help.

Great Purchase !!

This item is very affordable yet very intelligent. We have the LH130 ECO2 Series and by having 8 cameras it circles our entire home. You can save, back up, and review. This camera system gives us the extra security when we are away. It is good to know what is happening at your home when you're out and it is very discrete from your view when you're outside. There is infra-red for night time vision. I would recommend this product to anyone. The set up is small on the inside and all fits into a small cabinet. We have recommended this camera to others. The price is very affordable and we had to send a camera back. The company sent another to replace it, no hassle.

Great Camer System

We purchased the eight camera system after being burglarized and had a limited time frame in which to get it installed and functional before leaving on vacation to Europe. The system came up quickly, the cameras were very easy to setup and install and the IPhone app setup was a snap. We only had one minor issue that was not Lorex related during the DVR setup, our DSL model wouldn’t allow an open port for the system to communicate. Lorex technical service helped me resolve the issue with the DSL router very quickly. We made it on vacation in time and had the extra feeling of knowing what was going on at home with the ability to check in with the IPhone app and see what was happening (along with making sure the dog watched was doing their job) Several of our friends have bought the same system based on our results and have been just as happy and we’re soon going to buy the sixteen camera system for installation at our church.

Very impressed! I purchased this system for use at one of my self service carwashes. In three months I have been able to clearly identify as many thieves and a few vandals resulting in the arrest and conviction of two. The PTZ camera clearly captures license plates even at night. They don't always show the front plate clearly if the headlights are facing the camera but the rear plate comes through clear most of the time. The PTZ camera is so good that if I'm watching the cameras remotely and need to zoom in, I can read a plate on the other end of the property (approx. 80ft away). The 660 TV line cameras are great also. They are dependable and really clear even though they don't pick up license plates from a distance. I've placed them in every bay and around the property. I plan on buying this system for my other location soon.

We visit our daughter & grandkids about every 2 months in another state, when we were there, we always worry about our house. so I bought the Lorex ECO2 w/ 8 cameras from Costco, and I installed 8 cameras around the house by myself, it was easy to install, except the labor to climb in & out of attic and drill the holes. The cameras work great, pictures are clear, I can monitor and see my entire my house from any computer and my cell phone at anytime and anywhere. I am no longer worry when we go out of town. I real have a peace of mind.

Overall satisfied

I bought a Lorex Edge 2 years ago because of a neighbor who threatened my family and one day he came at me with a hammer. Because of the recorded footage from the Lorex DVR, the idiot was convicted and sentenced. So when Lorex came out with the new Lorex Eco2 with 12 high resolution cameras and TPZ at the same price as the old model (Costco), I went ahead and replaced the old 8 cameras. The resolution on the cameras are much better and the DVR menu is easy to navigate. The DDNS was easy to setup too.

Installation was very easy, with carton packed in sequence for when parts were needed. Features in oveall system match or exceed competitors prodcuts that cost more

I would recomend this system to anyone looking for a home serveillance system.

Very good product with minor bugs

The Lorex Eco2 is an exceptional product and I recommend it as very good option for home surveillance. I did extensive research before purchasing this system and feel satisfied that, at least for the price, this camera system is the best on the market. The setup was easy, though naturally running cables through all the walls and ceilings of a house can be time consuming. Setting up the DDNS, remote viewing, and computer network access is not particularly difficult for someone with a good grasp of computers, though this would be quite difficult for people who are not as familiar with computers. The cameras themselves provide a fairly good picture, though naturally they are not HD and, consequently, the image quality is probably not going to be adequate to read license plates on vehicles or identify individuals over 15 feet from the camera. This is essentially the case with all competing systems, however. The system itself can be set up for continual recording, motion detection, audio recording, and auto email alerts with picture attachments. I leave my system recording all the time and rely on email alerts to let me know what times may be useful for viewing. The motion detection can be set for various tolerances, though false hits from blowing trees, insects, cars, etc. dominate the majority of such emails alerts. The camera can be setup to ignore certain portions of the camera's field of vision for the purposes of motion detection, though the reality is that some false hits are inevitable, especially if it is raining, windy, or a lot of bugs are flying around. This issue would be eliminated if there were some sort of IR detection built into the camera somewhat like a motion detection device, and I would be interested in some sort of IR setup that would allow you to specify the minimum size of the object to be detected (somewhat like motion detection systems for alarms that ignore pets under 40 lbs). I am unaware of a way to incorporate this into the camera system at present. Viewing of the cameras on the tablet or smartphone is relatively easy to set up. The only issue I have with this system, and I do find it to be highly annoying, is that, for whatever reason, when logging into the camera system I have to select each individual camera and load it into the screen every time I open the program. I would like to open it and have it go to a default set of cameras. Also, every single time I open the smartphone (Android) app, I have to wait for the system to try to connect, time out, and then individual load each camera. This, to me, shows poor programming and I have not noticed any updates to the Android software since purchasing the camera system. Also, there is no way to view past footage from your smartphone that I am aware of, so even if you are able to view live footage, if you receive an email alert on your phone you have to go to a computer to login and view recorded footage remotely. In sum Pros: - Easy setup - Decent camera quality - Motion detection and alert Cons: - Buggy smartphone access - No IR system for alert

Excellent customer service

I enjoyed setting up our Lorex security cameras. The system was complete, with the exceptions of some extension cables I needed, and found locally, for some extremely long runs between camera and DVR. The equipment was good quality and everything worked well. When I ran into some stumbling blocks trying to set the system up for remote viewing, the tech support was top-notch. Overall, very satisfied with my experience.

Just set this up .. and have to say Not bad for the money!

The web interface is really nice .. better then most expensive DVR'S

The Cameras are OK .. They do not seem to be what they state for the 660TV lines of resolution!

The cameras switch automatically to black and white in low light.

However seem to switch to black and white even if there is a lot of light.

Easy to setup .. nice unit .. cool interface .. low cost!

So over all I would say get it!

This was my first system and by following the instructions I have successfully installed it and am very happy with its features and performance. I did have to call support regarding port forwarding. They were courtesy and thorough and had me able to remotely login to the system. Other than that one call I did not require any help from support. I could not be more satisfied. I highly recommend Lorex and this system.

Very pleased

Over all the system was painless to install. Local operation was as defined in the manual. However remote operation with a Apple Time Capsule router was not covered and not that straight forward. If I hadn't come across an article explaining that an older version 5.6 of Mac air utility was needed. I would still be scratching my balding head. An app for this would of course make more friends in the Mac world. In my job I worked with installing Pelco cameras and found it to be comparable to this system. Next a PTZ to go with it.

Very user friendly system

Purchased the system from Costco in early August. I had it up and running in 1 day. The hardest part about setting up the system had nothing to do with Lorex, but Verizon failing to put the model number on my router, which made setting up the remote access more difficult. The ability to check on your home remotely is awesome! The only negative about this system is the noise from the cooling fan

Eye on Quality

My recently installed Lorex ECO2 16-Channel security system has met my expectations and more. Having the lower res cameras in the past has left me wanting a better picture for some time. The set up of the system was simple and intuitive. Access to the various features and settings is easy to do after crusing through the menu a couple of times. Setting the alarm area for each camera was simple. A novice can install and set-up this system with little to no problem. the connectors on the recorder and cameras are straight forward. The overall system is, in my opinion, an excellent value. I'm going to purchase another system for a friend of mine so she can enjoy the same level of security I am now enjoying.

Night vision is very good. Picture quality is fair ,but what expect for the price. Purchased at costco.com . Took a while to get it connected for mobile viewing but after found out what was doing wrong with assistance from tech support it was easy. The fan is very loud on this unit so plan where you want to put it. I think it emits that heat to have to fans on all the time. I still cant get the email alerts working at all. if you want to see your video on a mobile phone you must enable port forwarding. Sure they can improve on this unit design like quiet the fans.

Excellent product, but instructions need work.

I purchased this product at Costco, and installed it myself. It is a great product. The cameras are sturdy, and the resolution is excellent. The kit came with detailed instructions on how to use the DVR, and how to set up the cameras on the DVR, as well as how to set up remote monitoring. What was missing was important instructions on the cameras. I am very good at do-it-yourself jobs, so was able to get by. But I had to do trial and error to realize that if you point an infrared camera ANYWHERE neat a wall, you got a strong white halo at night, whch made it pretty much impossible to see anything. Was the extension cable OK for wet locations? Did I have to use electric tape around the connectors that were exposed outdoor? None of these important installation instructions were present, because there were no installation instructions for the camera mounting. A great product, but you have to figure the installation out by yourself.

Good product

System works very well, after some learning curve I now have the system set up to e-mail important alarms and record what is required. I have still not been able to view remotly but that is my fault for not having time to work on it. I have reviewed various alarms for different days and can see what set the alarm in 95% of the time. I have even been alerted to deliveries that were made so I know they were there. I had another brand before this, they are not recommended, this one is.

Huge learning curve, but worth the time

Just a quick note, more later. I've installed and I'm using 6 of the 8 cameras. I'll install the other two shortly. All the cameras are installed outdoors in a sheltered location. I took the time to run electrical conduit, to hide and protect the wires and for essestic reasons. I'm still tweaking the system. I can watch remotely, receive email of breeches. The pictures I receive are fabulous. Once I've installed all the cameras, I'll call Lorex for assistance with final setup. A great system.

Very Pleased With Purchase

I purchased this unit after lots of research online, about 2 weeks worth. I was looking at systems that were affordable but want to make sure that I had no regrets, so I spent double of what I first planned to spend. With 17 years in the telecommunication industry, it was a breeze to install. The DVR was online, sending photos, and streaming to (2) Android smartphones, (1) iPad, and (1) Android tablet in no time. Made changes improving video quality, (mainstream and sub stream), little tweaks here and there all was well for over a month. I started to make a few more changes to improve video quality, (more bandwidth) and the DVR would lock up. I would then reboot the DVR and put the video settings back. Then after a couple of weeks the DVR would lose internal network connection while watching through a browser. Up to 68 times in 24 hours for 1 to 8 minutes each time. With confirming a solid gigabit home network, I reset the DVR to factory default. Then changing the settings right away, all is good. No network reboots for over a month. With it probably being a small firmware glitch, I have no concerns now or in the future. I chose this unit mainly for the cameras temperature operating range. Winters here can get quite cold. At this moment I cannot comment on how the cameras work in the cold / frigid weather, but I probably will update the review in the future. The unit is very easy to upgrade the hard drive. SATA and power connections are already connected to the motherboard, it just awaits a new HD. With the unit having a 500Gig hard drive, I added a 1.5 Terabyte “green” hard drive. Case fans are a bit loud, but not too much of a concern. As always, put the DVR on a UPS. Not just for security reasons, but also to condition the line, (brownouts, spikes, etc.). This is a great peace of mind and I cannot see our future homes without a security camera system. I will purchase Lorex products again.

Perfect coverage, great picture quality

We've just installed this system in our business and are very pleased with total coverage of the entire facility, and the quality of the picture coming through the cameras. Installation was a bit of a challenge, and finding out that your 6pin DIN connector is proprietary and available only through Lorex presented a hiccup. But, overall, this system is definitely recommended.

Very nice product with Good Customer Support

I bought my system through Costco. Their website listed a BUNCH of stats, but not the key stat of camera operating range. I found the system on the Lorex website, saw that the cameras had a -22 deg F range and decided to make the purchase. When I opened the system up I saw a camera spec sheet that showed a +17 deg F operating temp and called up. It took a while to resolve but the rep offered to make a 1 for 1 swap for the low temp cameras with slightly worse resolution (since there is no 700 TVL camera with low temp performance on the market). As an alternative, he offered to annotate my file so that we could see how they work through this first winter (noting that they're a canadian company and experience -40 temps with these same cameras). Setup was relatively easy, though it took a lot of trial and error to learn the behavior of the system. After playing with it for a couple weeks, the only issues I have are troubleshooting the sending of e-mails and sparse documentation when explaining the logs (e.g. CON must be condition and VL must be video loss, but I haven't found that anywhere in the logs). On a side note, when I had the house built 4 years ago I had wires pulled to locations where I wanted cameras, but after the purchase I learned that I had ONLY had Cat 5e and a power lead pulled and not coax. I was able to do some franken-wiring to connect a bnc twist-on to RG59 which was then filleted open to solder the center lead to 1 conductor of a twisted pair and the shield to the other conductor. After doing this on both ends, I was able to connect the cameras through the house wiring and into the DVR. The live pictures and recorded images look fine, though periodically there's a video artifact that will work its way across the image (like a line of color distortion). By turning down the sensitivity on the motion detection configuration, I've eliminated most of the false positives

Great product overall; easy to install and worked right out of the box, internet setup required a call to customer service who quickly resolved this item. Great resolution day or night. Good clarity in low light and over distance as marketed. Bought at COSTCO, a bit pricey. Cables are good, but could use a mix of 60 feet and 100 feet since there are multiple cameras to install. It is a good system for price

It is very reliable and works well. I have two small negatives, one is the night illuminator only lights up a small portion of the scene in center of the field of view, the other issue is that the motion detection feather needs more user adjustment options. I got 50 to a 100 emails each night from motion detections of bugs flying in front of the camera while missing some real motions. Other wise the system does a good job. If these two problems could be fixed I would give it a 5 star rating.

Great DIY kit and follw-up support

I recently bought a Lorex system after researching a few of the DIY kits out there because it offered the most features and a good value. I installed it pretty quickly and was up and running in no time. The manuals are pretty good and their website tips helped a bit too. I did have a problem getting the remote internet access running since my network uses a dual router setup. Affordable quality

Pros: easy set up., ease of use, e-mails sent w/ snapshot on alarms

Cons: infra-red images are grainy. Model Number:

"We purchased this product in Austin, TX last month to remotely monitor my 98 year old mother in her home from our home. This system is extremely easy to setup and intitive to use. The DVR is totally silent and has been running 24x7 without a problem. Although we monitor the system from our home, we can monitor from a notebook, tablet, iPhone or Mac real-time from any Free Wifi HotSpot making it versatile. This is really helpful if we are travelling. Since this is used as a monitoring system, and not used to download data, we use the least expensive Timewarner Internet plan available ($21/mo) rather than the 'Standard Plan". Lorex provides a free DDNS Service with the purchase, which means that you have your own secure means to connect to your DVR "Server" at anytime at no cost. The system can be quickly configured to send e-mails to your SmartPhone together with a picture of what the camera caught that triggered the 'alarm'. It also allows us to remotely playback anything the cameras have captured over the last month with a few mouse clicks. The cameras are color and run on infra-red when there is low light conditions or in total darkness, so we can always see see what is happening. The only drawback is that the images are not 100% crystal clear like on your HDTV when in infra-red mode. This is not a defect with the system but simply a limitation of the technology that is used. The price was a reasonable given that you got a computer (DVR), fully installed software, a free DDNS Service, and 8 color cameras with 60 foot length cables. So far this is certainly a good purchase. It allows to watch over my mother-in-law in case she falls or has any other difficulty that would otherwise be ignored in an assisted living facility and a heck of a lot cheaper than $7,000 per month."

Highly Recommended

Pros: user-friendly, very customizable, remote monitoring is surprisingly good, motion detection really helps save hd space., cameras look awesome

Cons: dvr fan a little loud.

Model Number: ECO2/16 channel

"I just wanted to say that I am very appreciative of your products. About 6 months ago, I bought a Lorex 16-channel ECO2 DVR/8 Cam kit from Costco. I installed it over two weekends at my residence and had a great time doing it! I can now watch my home when I’m away and I really have a broadened sense of security whenever I leave. I’ve been in law enforcement and security most of my professional life and really believe in your product. Very equivalent to my multi-million dollar cctv system at work. It’s extremely user-friendly, has tons of customization options and provides a crisp picture locally (on my home monitor) and over the internet. Your customer service staff is very pleasant as well. I had to call them once to help with port blocking on my router.

Anyway, I think you have wonderful products, great staff and a truly amazing company doing some amazing things. Thanks for providing me with an affordable and reliable system to help protect my home and family. Highly recommend Lorex CCTV systems."

Love these cameras

I have used quite a few different systems and this one was very simple and easy to figure out. The cameras have really good picture, in fact we forgot to remove the protective film and still saw a better picture then most of the other ones I've seen. My only negative comment is the box is very noisy, but that's to be somewhat expected with its size. Also, I wish they offered a higher playback speed, at as fast as it goes, it's still super slow. Night vision is great though!
