Q: How do I change the password of the camera?

A: If you want to change the camera password, you can do so using the web configuration tool for the camera. This requires a PC or Mac. See the instructions below.

NOTE: You can also reset the password to the default lorex by resetting the camera to default settings (see I have forgotten the password to my camera. What do I do?), and you will be asked to set a new password when connecting to the camera. However, this will also erase any settings and WiFi connections you have configured.

 

To change the camera password - Step 1 of 2: Connect to the camera web configuration tool:

NOTE: Your PC or Mac must be on the same network as the camera to perform the steps below.

  1. Open L-View, right-click on the camera ID under Auto Search, and click Web Configure.

  2. Enter the camera admin user name and password (different than the password used to access the camera video stream). By default, the admin user name is admin and the admin password field is left blank. Click Log in. The web configuration tool opens in your default web browser.
     

Step 2 of 2: Update the password:

  1. Click Video then click Video Settings.
  2. Under Password (play video), enter the desired camera password.
  3. Click Save & Apply at the bottom of the screen to save the new password.

Q: I have forgotten the password to my camera. What do I do?

A: You can restore the password to the default password by resetting the camera to default settings.

To reset the camera to default settings:

NOTE: This method erases any settings or WiFi network connections you have setup on the camera. You will have to reconnect your camera to your WiFi network.

  1. Power on the camera by connecting the power adapter.
  2. Use a paper clip or thin object to press and hold the Reset button on the bottom of the camera for at least 4 seconds. The camera will restart with the default password lorex.

Q: What is the password for changing settings on the camera?

A: The admin password is used to change settings on the camera. This password is different than the password used to connect to the camera's video stream. This is useful because you can give the video stream password to family members or neighbors to view the cameras, but only you can change the recording schedules, passwords, or other settings. By default, when changing camera settings, the user name is admin and the password field is left blank. You can change this user name or password using the web configuration tool (requires a PC or Mac).

  1. Open L-View, right-click on the camera ID under Auto Search, and click Web Configure.

Step 2 of 2: Change the admin user name and password:

  1. Click Admin then click Admin login.
  2. Enter the desired admin user name and password. Click Save & Apply.

  3. Restart the camera by clicking reboot and then clicking the reboot button. When the camera restarts, your newly selected admin user name and password will be used to make setting changes on the camera.

Q: I have forgotten the password to the L-View software on PC. What do I do?

A: If you have forgotten your username or password for L-View on PC, please contact technical support to have your L-View access restored.

 

Q: Can I change camera settings from anywhere?

A: On an iPhone, iPad, or Android device, you may make changes to the camera settings (such as the video quality settings or recording schedules) over the Internet from anywhere. On PC or Mac, your computer must be on the same network as the camera to change settings.

NOTE: You can only configure settings for recording to your computer's local hard drive from the same computer that you would like to record to.

 

Q: How do I connect the camera to my WiFi network?

A: Follow the steps in the Quick Start Guide to connect the camera to a WiFi network. If it is still not working, check the following:

  • If you are using the WPS function, make sure to press and hold the WPS button on your router until the WPS light turns on or flashes and then press the WPS button on the camera. The LED's on the camera will flash for about a minute while the camera searches for your network. When the connection is established, the blue LED will turn on.   • If your router does not have WPS, you must connect the camera to your router using the included Ethernet cable to connect it to your WiFi network. Once you have completed the setup, you can disconnect the power and Ethernet cables from the camera, and it will remember your wireless network when you plug it back in.
  • If you are manually configuring WiFi, double-check the password for your wireless network.
  • The camera may need to be restarted to get an IP address from your router. Disconnect the Ethernet cable then disconnect and reconnect the power adapter to restart the camera.
  • The camera may be located in a room that is out of signal range of your wireless router. Move the camera to the same room as your wireless router and try to establish the connection there. See the WiFi tips below for more details on WiFi signal strength.

WiFi Tips:

  • Check your router's settings to make sure your router is in wireless "N" mode. N mode has a greater range than A, B, or G mode. If your wireless router does not support N mode, you may want to consider upgrading your wireless router.
  • Cordless phones and other wireless devices can decrease the strength of your WiFi signal. Keep as much distance as possible between other wireless devices, the router, and the camera.
  • Competing WiFi networks from the environment can also decrease the strength of your signal. In some cases, changing the channel your wireless router operates on can help reduce this effect. See this guide for more information.
  • You may need to relocate your wireless router or camera to improve the signal strength. Walls, especially concrete or metal walls, and other obstructions may significantly impact WiFi signal strength.
  • You can purchase a wireless access point or repeater, which will extend the range of your WiFi network by re-transmitting the signal from a second location.

Q: What is WPS? How can I tell if my router has this function?

A: WPS or WiFi Protected Setup "handshakes" or "pairs" the camera to a compatible WiFi router, creating a secure connection without requiring a complicated configuration process. On WPS-enabled routers, you simply push a button to enable WPS-mode. In WPS-mode, the router looks for a compatible device, and creates a random, single use network name (SSID) and password to establish the connection. After the connection is made, the router returns to normal function, so that unauthorized devices cannot connect.

Not all routers support WPS. Different router manufacturers have different names for this feature, and the WPS button may be represented by arrows or other symbols (see the examples below). Check your router's user manual for details.

Q: Does my router need to support WPS to use WiFi with the camera?

A: No. If your router does not support WPS, you can connect the camera to your WiFi network by connecting it to your router with the included Ethernet cable and then following the steps in the Quick Start Guide. Once you have completed the setup, you can disconnect the power and Ethernet cables from the camera, and it will remember your wireless network when you plug it back in.

 

Q: How do I set up motion-only recording to the microSD card?

A: The general steps to set up motion only recording on the microSD card are as follows:

  1. Insert a microSD card (up to 32GB supported; not included) in the camera. It is recommended to format the SD card before using it with the camera.
  2. Go to the Camera Settings or web configuration tool and log in with the camera's admin user name (default: admin) and password (default: left blank).
  3. Open Schedule > SD Card.
  4. Select Schedule Recording and save your changes.
  5. Go to Schedule > Scheduling and create a schedule.
  6. Under SD card recording, check either PIR Triggered, Motion Triggered, or both.
    • The PIR Triggered option uses the camera's built-in PIR (Passive Infrared) motion sensor to detect motion based on changes in temperature in the environment. This type of motion detection is highly accurate at detecting movement from people or animals, but it is only capable of detection motion within 20ft (7m) of the camera. PIR motion detection may become less effective at extremely hot temperatures beyond human body temperature (98.6°F / 37°C).
    • The Motion Triggered option uses changes in the video to detect motion. This makes it highly accurate, but it can be triggered by changes in lighting or moving leaves or trees. You can configure the sensitivity for the Motion Triggered option in Video Settings (Video Settings button in L-View in L-View) > Control. This type of motion detection can detect movement beyond the range of the PIR motion sensor.
    • Selecting both Motion Triggered and PIR Triggered means the camera will use both options to trigger recording.
  7. Select an Every day schedule that covers the entire day and save your changes.

The steps to set up motion-only recording vary based on the device you are using. See the manual for more details on configuring recording or playing back video from the microSD card.

 

Q: What does it mean when the LED's on the front of the camera are flashing?

A: All three LED's on the front of the camera will flash after the WPS button is pressed to indicate the camera is searching for a compatible network. This is normal. It should take about a minute for the camera to connect to a WiFi network using WPS. When the camera connects, the blue LED will turn on.

Q: Can I turn off the status LED's on the front of the camera?

A: Yes, the status LED's on the front of the camera can be turned off. This is useful if you want the camera to be less obtrusive or harder to spot at night. Settings to turn off the status LED's are located in Video Settings (Video Settings button in L-View in L-View) > Control. The following options are available:

  • Normal: LED's will function as normal.
  • Always turn off: LED's are turned off at all times.
  • Turn off after network connected: LED's turn on when the camera is powered on and turn off once a network connection is made.

The exact steps to turn off the LED's differ depending on which device you are using; check your manual for the exact steps for your device.

NOTE: The night vision IR LED glows red when night vision is activated.

 

Q: How do I disconnect from one of my cameras without closing the application?

A: This depends on the application and device you are using:

  • In L-View on PC or Mac, right-click on the video area and click Stop to disconnect from the camera.

  • In Lorex Ping for iPad, tap the iPad disconnect camera icon icon on the top of the camera display area to disconnect from the camera.
  • In Lorex Ping for iPhone, tap Disconnect. Disconnect only appears when holding the phone in portrait mode.
  • In Lorex Ping for Android, press the back button to disconnect from the camera and return to the Camera List.

 

Q: What kind of microSD card can I use with the camera?

A: The camera supports microSD or microSDHC cards up to a maximum size of 32GB. The following brands of microSD cards are confirmed by Lorex: Adata, Kingston, Kingmax, Sandisk, SP, Transcend, and Toshiba.

 

Q: Is DDNS connectivity supported to view my camera video remotely from a web browser?

A: No, DDNS is not supported on LNC116 cameras. The LNC116 features Cloud Connection for secure video streaming over the Internet without requiring any network knowledge or configuration. You may remotely view your video on the Lorex Ping apps on supported smartphones and tablets or L-View on a PC's and Macs. Remote viewing is not supported via web browser.
